Dallas got cash off the Wiz in that trade. Are you kidding me?
*bump*
Yes
**** yes Go Dallas.
I know OKC aren't getting there this year, so for the underdogs out there I'm putting my support behind Dallas.
Mavs point differential is still +2.3 (8th in the west) yet their record is 2nd in the west.
Here is their recent record in games decided by 5 or less. Pay attention to when Dirk was the undisputed #1 of the team (after Nash left)
2009-2010 16-5 (after 61 games)
2008-2009 17-5
2007-2008 8-10
2006-2007 19-4
2005-2006 15-7
2004-2005 12-9
2003-2004 9-9
2002-2003 9-9
2001-2002 9-7
2000-2001 10-9
Now Mr Hollinger, when will these even out?
p.s. Dirk is a choker
This is true. We were 2-9 in games decided by exactly 7 (or something similar)For example, if you change it to 3 or 7 points instead, it looks less impressive in either case (take a squiz at how many games you won by exactly 5 in 08-09 and how many you lost by exactly 7).
Even if we look at 3 points or less, which is more standard (i.e. 1 possession), I'm sure it's still a very good record though. But, as I've said before, given Jordan's Bulls, Duncan's Spurs etc etc all ran at <60% in one-possession games, it's unrealistic to believe that the Mavs' true rate is any higher than that. In fact, the only team I found that had a +60% record in these games are the Lakers - and I'm sure I don't have to tell you why.
I have not noticed either wayThe other thing I'd ask...are the Mavs pretty quick to stop fouling in no-hope games? E.g. some teams will be down 10 with 40secs left and still foul. Some won't. The ones that don't will tend to have a better % in close games.
