Can Hawthorn succeed while ignoring the elite end of the draft? - Part 2

And I'm not wasting my time with someone who twice needs to insult others to get his point across.

The only dense one here is you.

Brisbane weren't rebuilding in 2019.
Hodge was traded to the Lions at the end of 2017, that year they finished dead last. They were rebuilding.

Im sorry if I offended you. After you lashed out and said my club was going to be a laughing stock I just assumed you had thicker skin.

I'll try and break it down for you:

Hawthorn will be shit next year (you said it yourself so eloquently earlier) so wins are not the priority.
Hawthorn will probably cull a fair bit of experience and add some kids.
Hawthorn are desperately short of strong leaders like Burgoyne
Burgoyne is one of the better leaders in the league and invaluable for the young indigenous kids
The club and Shaun would love for him to be the first indigenous player to reach 400 games

These are all excellent reasons to sign him on for a final year. Each one outweighs the need for one more space on the list.

2019 Hodge was integral.

Burgoyne will be 3/4? plus years older then he was.

In an era with decreasing list sizes, it's a selfish move. Believe I heard yesterday that even Hodge didn't agree either.

And this is the only reason why it's happening.

You wouldn't be extending him if he'd played 400 today.

Wanganeen and Kornes went on for 300 and it was ugly. Nathan Jones looks terrible. Westhoff likely won't be given the chance.

Burgoyne isn't Brent Harvey where it's a tough decision.

And this is the only reason why it's happening

Of course it is....

So I assume you think all of these statements are untrue then?

Hawthorn will be sh*t next year (you said it yourself so eloquently earlier) so wins are not the priority.

Okay and Hodge was average as a player in 2019 but still for other reasons, we will lose a lot of experienced players next year and want to keep him around for one more.

It isn't selfish, he wants to play on and the club wants him to play on. How is that selfish? If we didn't want him we would have given him the flick.

We want his leadership on the field next year it really is not that hard to understand.

So my point stands. You agree.

It's selfish.

The games stat is the most important thing.

None of those outweigh that he's being kept on because he's nearing 400.

If he has an injury preseason and doesn't get the milestone do you wanna give him 2022 as well?

If you understood the reasons behind the decision for him to play on in 2020, you would understand why this question is moot. But you clearly either dont get it, or are refusing to listen to supporters of the club when we explain it to you.

Keep holding that 10 year grudge. :thumbsu:

Burgoyne will be remembered as a HAWTHORN Legend I'm glad he is being treated as one.

I also question people recognition of how Rough, Mitch and Hodge were treated. All 3
were treated with as much respect as silk.

Selective memory maybe.....

Anyway as always im rapt to support this club.

Would you call it losing all your experience and a squad of kids when you’d still have McEvoy, Frawley, Gunston, Breust, Ceglar, Scully, Mitchell, O’Meara, Shiels, Smith, Patton, Wingard, Impey and O’Brien?
Impey is only 25. Hardly experienced.

Again we need to see what plays out this trade period. Will we lose Gunner and or Breust? Will Shiels and Frawley be tapped on the shoulder?

Signing Shaun tells me they've already made calls. We just don't know them yet.

At least you can admit you dont understand the intricacies of building a club

Haha, I didn’t realise questioning a team keeping on a 37 year old with reduced list sizes was something that obviously couldn’t be questioned. I guess it’s a bit of an indictment on the leadership capabilities of the numerous veterans Hawthorn still have if the idea of moving on a 37 year old is so unthinkable.

Everything you have said is opinionated bullshit. I reply in tune.

Jog on....
Yeah, opinions when I listed players you moved on

When I said Hodge was iffy with it

Yeah, the only bullshit was your post.
