So Buckley's record as coach in previous seasons is not relevant to the current season? Alright then....

Why would it be?
It's a different season. New players. New Assistant Coaches.
Why would it be compared?
He went to a prelim in his first season with the Pies 6 years ago. Is that relevant to where they are now?
I love the fact that we're winning and people are just losing their minds and will try to find any reason to discredit the team and coach. People bagged the shit out of Bucks when we were losing. Now that we're winning, he gets paid no credit at all.

Err. People just don’t care that much dude really.

It's certainly relevant to where he subsequently took that top 4 team he was handed, courtesy of burying a knife in his boss's back.

The truth is that Collingwood are right now a 50-50 proposition to play finals in 2018. And based on what I saw on Sunday against an injury crippled team of enthusiastic infants, it would probably be best if they don't make it.

Pies fans are screaming summer has come at the sight of the first swallow. How does the Buckley "resurgence" look if they miss the 8, or fall arse backwards into 7 or 8 then get smashed? These are overwhelmingly the principle possibilities.

please. carlton went into damage control before the game even started. playing ultra defensive with no mindset of winning. only to limit the scoreline of a an eventual loss.

you did it well but it never felt like you were going to win. if the game was played as it should be and not just flooding our forward line you'd of got done by 10 goals

There are a lot better judges than you out there who rate Collingwood's prospects this season a lot better than you do.

Not a surprising attitude from a Carlton supporter though - 'Gee, what if we make the finals and embarrass ourselves? Maybe it's better not to make the finals'?

Good thing it's not something you blokes have to worry about as a general rule.

Come off it. You've really failed to notice the typical game of footy in 2018 having a total of 10-15 goals kicked?

Every team, including Collingwood, plays the same full field strangulation flood without the ball in hand.

Our shortcomings at this time are the midfield depth and polish to break through enough times, and lack of potent forwards (which seems to be on the change right now :)) The midfield depth and polish is a factor of growing up time for the infants.

Q

couldnt do it

The eagles will take cox at any opportunity etc etc etc jokes would just make it not worth it

Weve had a decade of cox puns - we had cox up to here. You can only swallow so many.

Weve handed the cox gags over to you

From now on all the cox innuendo is coming your way - and sydneys - you two can touch cox.
Sidebottom and Brown don't like your humour.

we'll finish somewhere between 6 - 10.

there is a zoning and there is parking the bus. you did the latter yesterday and tried to score on fast breaks.

I understand why you did it. Being insipid against Freo is one thing but against Collingwood and your already dwindling supporters wouldn't show for the rest of the year. yesterday was a throw back to 2017 when Docherty played an entire season loose behind the ball.

Are you serious? 50/50 to play finals? Why don't you bet on that, Collingwood are paying $8 to miss the top 8, and $1.06 to make the 8. You're kidding if you think we are anything other than a near certainty to play finals.

With all due respect, Collingwood are only one loss and a small bit of percentage from being 9th. And they have a hard run home.

I'd say 50/50 is pretty reasonable.

You have Essendon, North, WC as locks?

Let's revisit that prediction in four weeks time, shall we? And I really wouldn't be too bullish about Freo over there in their last game of the year either.

Id put essendon as a 50/50 depending which essendon turn up and north as a 50/50 but other than that it looks ok - top 8’s pretty much a lock

They are obviously heading in the right direction and playing good footy. Have improved a lot over the past few years.

A good team can win ugly after a bye. The blues went back to that really bad footy of stacking the backline, playing ugly footy to survive a blow out. The fact the Pies were able to play to that rubbish level and always be in control was good.

All top teams go through it. Even the Tigers and Swans.

Now tell me, how much have the blues improved over the past 3 years?

Don't think Simpson or Daisy had one disposal within 3 metres of an opponent.

Played a putrid defensive game plan that they played all last year.

Carlton have actually gone backwards.

No. They have got steadily worse over each of the past few years and have improved somewhat over recent weeks. Not quite the same thing.

Collingwood is a very, very long way from warranting mention in that company.

That’s not true unless you take the overly simplistic view of ladder position, in which case you would also have to accept that we’re moving in the right direction now given we sit in the top four, no?

Last year there were plenty of very encouraging signs where we were highly competitive against all of the competition’s benchmarks, snaring wins against Geelong, Sydney and West Coast and running both Adelaide and GWS to within a goal. In addition, no team really properly got a hold of us (closest was Port Adelaide). We just suffered some very disappointing losses to some very average teams along the way. This year we’ve eradicated those losses and have only put in three performances I’d class as poor for the year (against Hawthorn, Geelong and Carlton). The rally has been on the cards for a while and I hope it continues. Looking forward to testing ourselves against Sydney, West Coast and Richmond later in the year.
