All I can say is another very very ordinary performance from the No23 today. Not sure what is going on with Buddy? he just does not look a shadow on the player he was in 2008!

All in all a good three quarter performance but unfortunately that doesn't bring four points! :(

Another very very ordinary performance from the No23 today, I really don't know what is going on with him at the moment, doesn't look a shadow of the Buddy that was running around in 2008!

All in all a good three quarter performance but that doesn't win you games of footy against good sides unfortunately! :(

.

Well the umpires have finally made him a non event. Every time he goes for the pill the whistle blows.

I've said it before the men of various colours have completed their job.

Questions need to be asked of the AFL: Why has a budding champion's career been ruined.

If he stopped running around looking for cheap free kicks and actually played footy the rest might follow! Yes he has been harshly umpired in the past but the more he goes on whinging about it rather than just focusing on what he can control, his attack on the pill, then he might as well be playing in the VFL! Showed no committment today and that was the most disappointing aspect!

You posted enough threads on the subject; 1 is enough! :thumbsu:

Yeah, agreed. He needs to harden up.. hes brilliant, yet doesnt play like it.

Didn't have a 'bad' game from the stat sheet point of view. However he didnt impose himself on the scoreboard which is the reason he is in our team. Sit him down during the week and show him some 2008 highlights of himself leading to the ball and attacking the football and using his hands. He doesn't appear to be confident on leading to the ball, instead always opting for the man on man contest while he sits under the ball. It's one of his weaknesses and something he should be avoiding as he is so strong on the lead.

As much as I never supported this in the past, I think it's time now to play him up the ground for a bit so he can get his hands on the footy and get that free-running game going again.

Standing one out trying to mark is not his game - he's not a great contested mark and probably never will be. He is a running player. Get him up the ground and running again.

Let Roughead play deep and give Buddy an easy assignment to just run guys off their feet and pick up touches for a week. Maybe that'd give him some confidence.

They've gotta do something and he's gotta put the work in to make it happen.

The enduringimage I have of Buddy today is him standing still with his arms apart calling for the ball in the 50 m zone from a player who has just marked in front of goal. I want the real Buddy back too!

The Buddy bashing and constant comparing to 2008 has got
stop. It is not, despite assertions in 2-3 different threads an effective coaching technique, nor educational for the player, to sit him down and show him highlight reels of himself- all you will do is affect the psyche of the player in a negative fashion. You can never recreate a game, you can never recreate a brilliant moment, you can only ever have full committment to the gameplan, the systems in place and trust that should you try your guts out the team will win.

Our YOUNG team is clearly experiencing teething problems, it's not new. There are some very basic things that I think the whole team
need to clean up mainly surrounding intent and attitude. We play reactionary football. We let players and teams get under our skin- as has been evidenced
by the last 25 games of football. Now, bare in mind that we have, in that time lost a lot of temperament from our side- crawfs, dew, Campbell etc mature heads and all 5-12 years older than someone like Buddy. Currently we are re-establishing our temperament- but as I said, it's tough. Bombers game last year, cats game, and even today while I can't criticise our endeavour our development I can say that it is clearly evident that umpiring decisions and incidents involving teamates rob our players of vital
focus.

We spend too much time re-acting, an it seemingly has a wave effect. Yes it's important to impose yourself and stick up or your team mate, but not at the expense of the team winning the BALL and kicking GOALS.

Our team needs to play a brand of football where we hunt the ball for 120 minutes. Fitness is not the issue despite the assertions of some posters. It is a mental application to selfless football as a team. Buddy specifically is no different than every other player out there.

As a side note- I think Buddy needs support from the coaches.

With all that said- it will be interesting to see our mental
application to playing this game next week with the inclusions
into our side. We should be pumped IMO. It's a long season- and if we're coming this close now... Well it's a long
season teams should be worried.

Franklin couldn't catch a beachball at the moment. Thats the most concerning thing. For someone with his height and agility there's no excuse for dropping easy marks and refusing to mark the ball out in front. Not to mention the token chases in the second half.

Throw him in the ruck- Not at centre bounces but around the ground. He's giving us nothing up forward.

Buddy played up the ground a lot today so saying that they should play him there doesn't appear to be working.
I believe he needs to play out of the goal square like he did in 2008 with Roughhead at centre half forwatd. Buddy is unbeatable leading out of the goal square but for some reason that is not happening.

He hasn't lost his ability.

He appears to have lost his confidence or the coaching staff are asking him to do something else.

Again, why does buddy start his leads from 45/50m out?

Is this a Barker directive? It sure ain't working.

He hasn't been the same player since he damaged his thumb toward the end of 2008. I wonder how his thumb is now? Watching him today, there may still be a problem there... Have u ever tried to mark a football with one thumb???
