come on, man! pull that partisan hat off!

Violence by the left being the same as on the right. So the threat from left wing extremists is the same as nuts from the right. Side note, some interesting notes coming out about the Pelosi guy.

Well a lot of the comment I’ve read from the right side have condemned the incident, as they should of course

The right are currently using every excuse in the book (Pelosi's should have had better security, the attacker was his gay lover, the attacker was a drug addict), but nothing about the fact that this bloke believed in every far-right conspiracy that is peddled by Fox and co.

Did you read the article? The guy’s story is beyond bizarre, not sure it can be attributed to any kind of real political leaning in any direction.

Neighbors described DePape as a homeless addict with a politics that was, until recently, left-wing, but of secondary importance to his psychotic and paranoid behavior. “What I know about the family is that they’re very radical activists,” said one of DePape’s neighbors, a woman who only gave her first name, Trish. “They seem very left. They are all about the Black Lives Matter movement. Gay pride. But they’re very detached from reality. They have called the cops on several of the neighbors, including us, claiming that we are plotting against them. It’s really weird to see that they are willing to be so aggressive toward somebody else who is also a lefty.”

And here we go, like clockwork, blaming the actions on anything but the right-wing indoctrination of election denial etc.

You're using Pizzagate dude to make an argument? Lol.

...

You posted a twitter link making a partisan attack at Democrats for supposedly not condemning a one off knife wielder at a political rally. You posted it without context, without any text to place it in the narrative of the thread.

Some thread topics are broad, allowing for a greater range of topics and discussion. This is not one of those threads. Without staying on topic, the tree gets lost for the forest.

Now, we get back to your reply, in which you make the precise false equivalence between right wing and left wing violence espoused in the OP. A single knife wielder is not equivalent to the significant number of right wing terror attacks that have occurred over the last 25 years.

So, the question becomes, why post?

You didn't consider the thread topic when you made your post, and you make the precise false equivalence the thread topic discusses because you wanted to share a partisan link, then you have the nerve to accuse me of being partisan in reply?

Bye now.

jim doesn't have to believe it or tell themselves that to post in in a thread like this

in fact most of the bad faith actors that argue this stuff don't believe it but they know if they shout it loudly enough and often enough others will start to believe

same as when the media does the controversial, adversarial, troublemaker tag on a politician they don't like

then they can use it with anything they do no matter how mild, to inflate the view that they are a troublemaker

its easy to create villans in peoples minds as most people aren't engaged enough to look past the surface stuff

like the people who get their news from headlines

its why misinfo has exploded so well via social media

Ever notice how the "both sides do it" argument is only ever brought up when some conservative guy does something completely ****ed up? Lol

I posted this in the Joe Biden Presidential thread but here's a good place to post as well. Right Wing paramilitaries have damaged or destroyed several electrical substations in hails of gunfire in order to stop a drag show being performed at a musical theatre in South Carolina. 40,000 people were affected.

Just after 7pm last night, several vandals shot up a number of electric substations around Southern Pines, NC (about an 1 1/2 hours east of Charlotte), knocking out the power to over 40,000 residents.

An official statement from the Moore County Sherriff’s Office reads: “As utility companies began responding to the different substations, evidence was discovered that indicated that intentional vandalism had occurred at multiple sites.”

Several power substations were damaged and taken offline by gunfire knocking out power to 40,000 residents in Moore County, NC. Gun stores were robbed. A drag show was cancelled. A local extremist implied that’s why the power was cut...

...Early this morning the Moore County Sheriff’s Department visited the home of Emily Moore, the director of ‘Moore County Citizens for Freedom’ group, who posted “The power is out in Moore County and I know why.”

Minutes later she also posted a picture of the lights out at the Sunrise Theater with the caption, “God will not be mocked”.

About 2 hours later, the police came to her home. She then posted the following message on Facebook:

“The Moore County Sheriff’s Office just checked in. I welcomed them to my home.

Sorry they wasted their time. I told them that God works in mysterious ways and is responsible for the outage. I used the opportunity to tell them about the immoral drag show and the blasphemies screamed by its supporters.

God is chastising Moore County. I thanked them for coming and wished them a good night. Thankful for the LEOs service, as always..."

Another day, another lurch towards uncivil war over there, eh?

Also if both sides do it is somehow the argument these conservatives are going for? Why are they such rusted on conservatives/MAGA supporters?

Like surely you wouldn’t care that much if everything was just terrible in your mind?

No, it’s that they know the violence looks bad, but cheer it on.

They’ll be without power for at least a week.

We have our fair share of cookers and the cooked in Australia, those who may WANT us to be like those there United States, but the Religious Right has never had the sort of diseased hold here that it has on socio-political life over there.

We would do well to ensure that the Religious Right NEVER has a political say in our secular political lives.

It was only really after the Berlin Wall fell that the religious right came after the LGBTQI+ crowd because they needed a new common enemy now that the dreaded Commos had been seen off. Fortunately for them AIDS gave them a narrative at the time and never having seen a tragedy that they can't use to justify the alleged word of god they all enthusiastically jumped on board that.
