Get a load of this bloke puffing his chest out, come back to us when you’ve won 4 premierships this millennium. I have absolutely 0 reason to hate Richmond, I’ve seen much more success than Tigers fans of my age & as a club we’ve been much more relevant. But feel free to keep your Geelong obsession going. As the article I quoted made clear, Carey didn’t need big individual stats to make a difference. As long as his paddock was performing as intended, he was doing his job. Well enough to win multiple flags. Whereas Ablett was a one trick pony. Mark and score goals and pretty much nothing else. if he was a little bit more team-oriented he probably would have a won a premiership during his career, after all. Maybe. Woulda, coulda, shoulda. Zero is zero. Find as many excuses as you like.
It’s my dislike for Geelong and Ablett, is it? Six goals per game against Richmond you say? Didn’t know that! Wow, and how many premierships did that cost the Tigers mate? You have it all wrong. I love Geelong! Overall finals record, 10 wins for Richmond, 2 for Geelong. When we are good enough to be premiership contenders, my preferred opponents will always be Geelong. Same principle with all AFL teams wanting Collingwood as their GF opponent. We wipe the floor with you in finals. Historically. And may long it continue, until the cows come home.
Our “dynasty” was built on the foundation of our strengths perfectly matching Geelong’s weaknesses. Without Richmond, the Cats may have ended up having a second dynasty in the space of 10 years, with a couple of more flags added to your 2022 one.
It’s you Geelong supporters who hate us, with good reason. Hatred, why would I hate such obliging finals adversaries, if I even can call you that. Sort of a part time adversary. Turn it up for a couple of quarters and then go to water, time after time. Very thoughtful and considerate of you.
Thanks for the flags mate...
He played as a HF flanker and rotated as a wing until 1993. Why do you think at the ripe old age of 32 years he all of a sudden kicked 100+ goals 3 years in a row?? He all of a sudden got miraculously quicker or better with all the beers he drank and skipping training every day??It still represents only one full year as a pure wingman.
Do you think there's a chance that in the 3 years (87-89) where you somewhat guess that he was 50/50 wing/''goal square'' that he kicked the bulk of his goals those years when he was actually in the forward-line, you know ''goal square'' (not literally) as opposed to the wing ?
I mean that would make sense, wouldn't it ?
I doubt he ever kicked 100 goals from the wing let alone 600 as claimed.
Smack bang in between his two best seasons (in different playing positions also) where he was clearly the league’s benchmark. There was/is only one Ablett Snr, he is the greatest. It was weird he retired or whatever during 1991 and then came back and was a beast.

When Gazza Snr was in his prime he was such a super-hero excitement machine and draw card that it was estimated an extra 5,000 neutral fans would attend the big MCG games just to see him play..... Carey was a out and out champion no doubt but Gazza Snr was a freak of nature and the likes we will never see again!Remember back in the day seeing neutrals turn up to Geelong games just to see Ablett play. Not just a few either it was really noticeable.
The Blight (and Ayres) coached Geelong teams were stacked with forward talent but defences that leaked like sieves. Blight's mantra was score more than the opposition. So to say the Geelong teams were more talented than North is not correct. More talented in the forward line, yes, but...Ablett had the more natural talent, but Carey had the flags (with less talented teams than the grand final teams Ablett played with) so I have to give it to Duck
Carey it’s not close
Athletically superior and an actual winner
In every other sport, championships and being a leader play a massive role on who is the GOAT.
Carey won 2 premierships in a team that could only manage 7th in the season he was injured (He came back and led them to a prelim).
Very similar to Jordan in 94-95.
Duck is the GOAT and it's only some salty people who can't seperate his personal life from his football accomplishments.
Ablett is far worse if you go down that track.Irrespective of your opinion on their onfield credentials, do you, REALLY want to go down the path of which of these two guys gets assessed by what they did OFF the field?
That was his point. If people were going to be marked down due to feelings about off field stuff, it would be Ablett copping that way more than Carey.Ablett is far worse if you go down that track.
But it’s true. Athletically Carey was far superior and would still dominate today due to this. GAS is a midget in comparison and would most likely get relegated to a second string forward or a graveyard position like small forward/winger.You remind me of hodgepodge when it comes to the Ablett hate.
Ablett turned matches on a consistent basis just about more than any other player who ever played the game.
Carey likewise. Both were as good as it gets.
The never ending obsession.Geez Falcon, you do this same schtik in every thread. You okay?
The never ending obsession.
His brain is the Ablett Hotel and between them he only caught a few of Juniors last years at most.
This is bad as us having a bizarre chip on our shoulder about Royce Hart and Jack Dyer.
