Getting Hayes is a positive first step.

He's straight into the AFL at this point IMO. He was dominating the VFL and was playing solid footy in the AFL too.
Not sure he'd want that at this stage in his training career, but he is good enough for it.

Hayes has plenty of endurance and nous, but I can't think of position that suits him with his lack of top end speed or strength.
Getting Hayes back is a great pickup for the 2s. Absolute quality at the level and a leader to boot. Gives the sort of presence that you usually have to look to your AFL-listers to provide.

Re-signing Michael Lewis is a moneyball move
With Ollie Hotton being delisted today, I'd be inviting him over to play in the VFL. He had some talent in his draft year. Granted, he has had injuries, but we can afford to trial him in the VFL.

Another three: White, Badr, Poole re-sign with Reserves
The Carlton Reserves have secured the signings of another three Blues.
Poole only played a couple in 2024: his first was brilliant. His 2nd not quite so good. But he has a very nice left foot.
Will White could be on a senior list yet: he was 3rd in the B&F this season and managed a number of roles really well.
Badr only played a couple of games, but he clearly impressed somebody.

Lachie Young has signed up with Balwyn for season 2025
Fair enough. He wasn't as dud like Phillips, but he didn't provide the on-field leadership we were hoping for. It does leave the position of Captain open. If he was always available, I'd be offering it to Hayes, but he probably won't be available every week. Mores the pity.

Tough position to fill, Anyone with leadership qualities would seek more dollars or move into coaching at lower levels which is what he has done. An Ed Curnow type person would be perfect as a leader, approachable nice bloke, respected by his team mates and would be a super example to the young guns coming through.
Hopefully this team performs on field this year and our list stays healthy to keep the experience in the side to help develop the youngsters ready to step up when needed
