I find it interesting.. ASADA are now promising to include their 'evidence' on the 'new' show cause notices (I'm not actually sure it is legal to re-issue them for the same offences but anyway).. but they can't get those notices until the club decides if it is appealing or not.. even though the players are completely separate to the club..

Why is this 'evidence' so secret? Surely (after waiting two years) ASADA can call a meeting with the 34 players and their lawyers and run through a thorough presentation of where it is at? Then players can be informed of their choices...

I don't understand the great need for secrecy and deceit.. if ASADA believe they have doped.. then prosecute them.. otherwise piss off with your innuendo and constant delays.

Not sure if anyone has posted this already.

Essendon supporters survey on EFC handling of ASADA, appeal and strategy etc.

Talk about a loaded survey.

"Do you think the club is awesome except Robson and Evans **** them"

Hint of neutrality wouldn't have gone astray.

I agree the format needs work.

However there have been four independent studies done, with proper question format, that have delivered similar results.

Anyway it will all come out in the wash. I'm pretty confident that the club is under control and ready to launch into a Premiership assault..

What studies are those? Is that inside info?

The Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority has revealed it will provide a "comprehensive summary" of evidence against the 34 Essendon players issued with show-cause notices, and has suggested it is open to a deal with players prepared to come forward.

The anti-doping body explained to Fairfax Media on Wednesday night how the next stage of the process against the Essendon players would unfold, now that the Bombers and coach James Hird have lost their Federal Court case attempting to prove the investigation into the club's 2012 supplements program was unlawful.

An ASADA spokesperson said the show-cause process was on hold while the Bombers and Hird debated whether to appeal the Federal Court decision. The two parties had 21 days from last Friday – when Justice John Middleton made his ruling – to make a call. The Bombers board met on Wednesday, with the appeal understood to be a key point of discussion.

"The show-cause notice process for the 34 former and current Essendon Football Club players will remain on hold while the Federal Court appeal period is in place," the ASADA spokesperson said.

It's not a "Tell me everything you think went wrong" type of survey.

It's a "Certain people are going to be sued and certain resolutions brought to an EGM. What do you think of them" type survey. Telling the existing board that they are in the frame for legal proceedings is a bad way to kick off any discussions with them.
You assume the only resolutions brought to an EGM will be support for Hird and Little?

Please, don't go there.
no, your right.. no one has commissioned any studies into it..not at all.. When Gil gives a presentation to the clubs about what the AFL believes is going wrong.. it isn't based on market research.. of course not.. in fact I'm sure the AFL and EFC haven't even heard of that little thing called Market Research...

Seriously.. you think the AFL and the club isn't constantly canvassing public opinion??? Ahhhh

12 months ago you were of the opinion on this forum that it was a "witch hunt" against James Hird.

Since then, he has publicly done the following:

Given a short video to members saying "I can't wait to come back" at the start of the year
Not silenced his wife when she spoke out on his behalf
Joined the club motion that the investigation was illegal
Said "I'm glad to be back and can't wait to coach again"
Done the ice bucket challenge.

What, if not the consistent media slander, has informed your 180 degree about turn?

I find it insulting that you twist it that one's opinion is shaped by the media - I posted in August/September 2013 that Hird should leave the club - other people posted similar - I stress Hird should leave the club, not be sacked.

And the pity is that most of the debate should be about the players future - Few seem to care about the players.

Completely agree.

Right now, players can be suspended from playing in the AFL simply because a third party (ASADA / ADRVP) thinks a doping violation may have occurred. Not good enough.

Either raise the burden of proof bar at the ADRVP - e.g. make the ADRVP use a 'comfortable satisfaction' test or higher - or abolish provisional suspensions for non-AAF infraction notices.

Though the AFL has the final discretion in the issuing of provisional suspensions.

so, is Rucci just talking shit or do we have a problem?

Port already has been well briefed by lawyers on the ASADA saga out of concern for specialist forward Angus Monfries who left Essendon at the end of 2012, the contentious season at Windy Hill. Monfries is expected in the next week to seek a deal with ASADA and the AFL to take a three- to six-month ban dated from the end of the Power’s 2014 campaign with Saturday’s preliminary final.

at least monfries and ryder can train together.

Would go against what the AFLPA have been rabbiting on about.

Suspect if one goes, the rest will follow.

I disagree - The AFLPA statement stated that players were waiting ASADA's evidence and at this stage had no thoughts of making a deal - I am 100% certain that a deal will happen - Though not all will accept the deal.

So talk of three month deals being offered (which I don't even know how that is legal.. considering the minimum is 6 months) and being backdated to when last game was played..

So players could be offered a suspension that runs from (say) 7/09/2014 - 7/12/2014, they don't admit to doping on the intention to dope, but they admit to 'inadvertent exposure to possible doping violation'..

If these rumours are to be believed (and they are purely rumours at this stage) then you have to wonder how any player keeps the will to fight under such circumstances.. To be back training with this thing done and dusted by the second week of December.. has to be very tempting.

I appreciate that it probably means that ASADA has SFA and just wants a scalp.. but it becomes like the situation where you get a speeding fine you think you don't deserve.. but who can be bothered fighting 1 demerit point and $160... better to move and and enjoy life.

Calendar-Quote-Of-The-Day (24th September):

'We are more inclined to hate one another for points on which we differ, than to love one another for points on which we agree.'
- CHARLES CALEB COLTON

Why is it that BigFooty was the first thing that popped into my head upon reading this? Incidentally, I looked up just who Charles Caleb Colton was, as he seems a pretty switched-on guy. Turns out he did nothing really of note (apologies if I offended any nerds with my apparent ignorance ;)) but he summed up internet forums damn straight, an impressive effort for a guy who has been dead for nearly 200 years!

The Australian Sports Commission (Headed by John Wylie) funded this trip as an inducement to get Hird to bend over...

Not exactly correct - Fitzpatrick and Wylie through their contacts at Oxford offered Hird the chance to study at that institute - Hird declined the offer and chose to study the Mountainbleu course - Who paid for the course is subject to debate - Think it was shared by Little and the AFL.

Going by the posts we could lose half our members if we appeal the Federal Court Case or Hird is no longer coach. We could even lose half the posters from essendon forums.

Or we will get a strong insight into the drama queen representation on the board.

Mainly I don't want to appeal purely because Middleton was right.. ASADA will just go ahead and re-issue the notices anyway.. considering there is zero burden of proof required to get to that stage..

There also appears to be a strong likelihood that the 'evidence' they are using doesn't relate to the player interviews anyway..

I really supported the action we took.. I think it DID get a lot of things into the open.. certainly helped clear some things up.. but time to let the players lawyers deal with the evidence and sort this out once and for all..

Yep exactly, obviously they want deals so they can 'feel' like they have won, don't give in bombers. To hold on to secrecy for so long is comical, iv'e had enough, leave our boys alone you *****

I have a feeling it will be decided one way or another pretty quickly once the players and their eagles see the 'evidence'... we will either see deals done the same week (see Crunalla) or we know it will be fought to the end..
