Coach could not be clearer about what he thinks of Sav.…his praise was very very high. I don’t think he is getting dropped again this year…so either Henry is out or they have to think about dropping Kolo or SDK (I don’t think they will come into a game with Henry forward again)

They wont drop sdk or kolo.
Either hawkins is out for the year and jack is playing fwd or sav will get dropped and they are just saying the opposite publically to put off the press (scott does this all the time).

He'll be managed for a week before back in the VFL the next, or just an emergency if no VFL

Absolute bulldust - and im one of his biggest fans - love watching him play- carried Geel for years - ive posted that numerous times

But it is all relative to the annual remuneration - he is getting 1 million a year - yet he says it is mentally challenging getting up each week - if they are not in the prime time slots - thats what he said

Imagine a CEO on a million a year - said to the board who appointed him - its mentally challenging to get stimulated/motivated every week - fair dinkum -but thats the real world - not the ridiculous AFL world
For a start, bullshit he is getting a million.

Anyway, I had no issue with him being honest. All he said was that as you get older, the biggest challenge was getting up for every week after week. Meh.

We must have been watching a different game. I thought that Stengle fumbled more often than not, looked completely bereft of confidence and had a really poor work rate.

I noticed Tyson had the arm guard on again last night. A month ago he had removed it. Maybe the broken arm is still bothering him, hence the fumbling, when normally he's so clean?

I hope so. If he is still feeling the effects of his injury then it would go a long way to explaining his precipitous drop in form this year.

Do we really think Dangerfield was Geelong’s 2nd best player - as per the AFL match report? Stewart third?

I must have been at a different game. Danger had less than 10 touches at 3/4 time …. Picked it up a notch in the last but I thought he was average and looked well off being the best few players out there. A few of his kicks were Danger specials. Horne - Francis outpointed Danger around the contest and I thought did a number on him when they were head to head.

As for Stewart, similar to Dangerfield. He’s a defender who gave up 4 goals in the first 3/4 and then had a better last qtr.

Hard to fathom the way they came up with best players.

Dangerfield has been a fantastic player first at Adelaide and then at Geelong. However he's not the player he used to be. His kamikaze attack on the ball has finally caught up with him. Concussions, injuries, age have all played a part. However he still tends to play that manic style of game while his body cannot keep up. It's a mixed bag now, he does some good things but undoes it with poor disposal. It's two steps forward one step back. He trys to do the impossible sometimes when it would be better to remain in control. Hurling himself into a contest like a human wrecking ball is rarely effective. He'd be much more effective if he kept his feet like Gary Ablett Jnr always did, like Dustin Martin does. Dangerfield would be better on a wing or even as a forward flanker. However we don't have that luxury given the dearth of midfield talent.

The results aren't as good as last year, but I am just as proud, they have given there all and games like last night when it was slipping away to turn it around, absolutly fantastic.

Imagine if they had Finlayson and Dixon to clunk a mark, honestly think we'd have lost by 10 goals with how easily they were bursting out of the guts.

We won but the core issue hasn't changed the midfield is getting smashed every week and making it very hard to compete.
It's being overstated a little. We had 7 less clearances, 1 less inside 50 and 19 more contested possessions.

You want a stoppage smashing? Against Brisbane we had 29 less clearances and 36 less contested possessions that translated into 6 less inside 50s.

If anything we got burnt on the outside. Rozee and Butters had 23 uncontested possessions each. JHF 17 and Burton 15, with a few other defenders getting easy ball too.

He averages 3.3 turnovers a game. Not great but Atkins, Holmes and Bruhn turn it over a lot more.

And only Stewart has picked up coaches votes more frequently than Dangerfield. He's been inconsistent within games but even within the last 3 weeks he almost dragged us to a comeback win late Vs Brisbane, had 3 goal assists Vs Freo and was huge in the second half against Port.

Only Hawkins, Cameron and Miers have more score involvements per game and they play way more minutes. He trails only Miers for goal assists per game and is our go-to midfield goal kicker.

The criticism is overblown at times.

Port missing a third of their team is costing us draft picks... Darn you guys!!!
Picking as many experienced players as possible has us 5 wins, a draw and 3 losses over the past 8. With a pretty tough fixture list too (have played 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 6th, 10th, 12th, 15th, 17th), including a couple of interstate trips. 3-1 against top 8 sides in that time frame.

I think the club made the right call not to give up no matter what happens from here.

Just got around to watching the game and had some interesting takeaways from it with some examples.

First of all, I thought Esava played one of his best games for the Cats. He seems to be developing some natural football poise that many of us doubted he'd ever possess. This would have to be one of his best moments in the hoops. Calm, composed, gets to his feet instantly to effect the next contest and clear away:

Secondly, I couldn't help but notice how low the standards of adjudication have become this year. So many inconsistencies and rules that just can't be effectively enforced. The whole 'dissent' thing is a prime example. Have a look at a handful of these demonstrable incidents throughout the game, which weren't penalised:

Now, I'm not a fan of the dissent rule in general but the thing that bothers me about this is that whenever the umpires just decide to pay them, you can bet that nobody sees it coming. If it was ten minutes to go in a final and Tom Hawkins did this stuff, what do you think the umpires would 'choose' to do? We all know the answer.

Furthermore on the umpiring front, this incident here would have to be one of the worst adjudications I've ever seen:

Dangerfield tries to get to the ball, then tries to handball it away but it gets blocked in. Wines grabs it and reels it in, Danger adjusts and lays the tackle, then gets pinged. Now I know umpires pay some howlers, and that's fine. But they paid FIFTY free kicks in this game. There's too much over-zealous umpiring and too many rules that can't be effectively enforced. It's degrading the game far more than anything else in my opinion.

All of that said, I thought the Cats played pretty well, apart from some pretty bad Stanley turnovers and a horrible first quarter from Stewart. Next week will be a very interesting one.

I would rather they drop SDK than Sav to be honest. At least Sav can take a mark.

🤦‍♂️

SDK averages 4.44 marks per game, Ratugolea averages 4.79 - not really a big difference there

Even against Port, there was only 1 mark difference between the two with Ratugolea taking 8 to SDKs 7

What was interesting though is that there were a couple of times Ratugolea was out on his own, he was looked at but ignored by teammates who looked elsewhere for an option - teammates still targeted SDK as an outlet option

Why the face palm? Can’t have an opinion now?
SDK has been shocking. I remember reading preseason he was sleeping in and late for training sessions.
Yes he’s had injuries but his form has been shit house.

Still have no idea what Stanley was trying to do with that kick in the first clip. Absolutely abysmal decision making on display there.

The facepalm is simple - the notion "At least Ratugolea can take a mark", implying that SDK isn't holding his marks is false when looking across the season

In the 9 games played together:
  • Once the same number of marks; 2 each against Essendon though SDK did finish with a fractured cheekbone
  • 3 games Ratugolea has taken more marks; Collingwood, WCE & Port
  • 5 games SDK had taken more marks; Carlton, Suns, Swans (x 2) & North

By that notion, we should select SDK ahead of Ratugolea as at least he takes more marks in games both play...
