Yeah and luckily our recruiter makes the decisions lol so yes we are all laughing, the Jack crisp threads are the most popular on our own boards

I knew you guys would like him. Truth is most Pies supporters dont know much about the quality of players on interstate teams list because they are so Vic footy centric. Like you who just said the lions dont have much young talent apart from Mayes

thank you, it just seems odd with the offseason moves that you would be rebuilding

Yeah, adding proven 23 and 24 year olds stars with their best footy ahead of them to a very young list with ridiculous amounts of cap space that mandatorily must be spent is an incredibly short sighted decision right?

What the hell were we thinking!?!?

Well I know mayes, taylor and cutler. I don't rate Aish but I know he is highly rated. Who else do you guys have ?

Lol. I can't name any players on the Manchester City squad, so I can logically assume they are crap and don't have any.

2-8 you're flying, but alas that was more aimed at the judd trade which I think backfired big time for carlton
Also, they have not been included in the comparison. They only compared "15 of the most high-profile players to switch clubs last year" which does seem to be a little unfair from a Collingwood POV considering Crisp would probably make the top 5 if he was included on that list.

I like Dayne Beams

The AFL today seems absolutely crackers
With BigFooty full of far too many Pies
There's fools and idiots sittin' on the Twitter
It's depressing and it's senseless, and that's why

I, like Dayne Beams.
I, like Dayne Beams.
He's, really good below the knees,
Yes he's always friendly, and we're pretty flopping pleased.

I like Claye Beams too.
The wait was worthwhile getting two.
Think of the many things they've done to impress.
There's Maoism, Taoism, I Ching, and I digress.

(Stolen )

What is so odd? Because we got a A grader like beams? It aint every day you get a player of his quality want to join your club... It would be stupid not to have traded for him, and especially because our team was starting to head towards too much youth. People sometimes bang on about we should have got a tall forward instead, but fail to say exactly where this tall forward was coming from. Very happy to have a player like beams and he is a big part to our rebuild and has plenty of footy left in him

Yes, we'll then congratulate you on getting the best no name player, who is still not ranked anywhere near the best players in the league.

What's the point of this? If there was an article on the best blue buttons in a bucket, would you claim that to be unfair to your red button, just because it's a fairly decent button?
It's about as useful as deliberately leaving players out of a comparison because they weren't high profile enough... I don't actually expect them to write an article on the low profile players, just like I didn't expect them to leave those players out of a comparison. Isn't it good that lower profile players like Crisp have performed so well? I know I'd like to see how they rate in comparison to the higher profile guys.

The article was about 15 of the biggest names to switch clubs. And even then, if you included Crisp, Brisbane/Beams is the winner. At the end of the day, it all means very little. Collingwood is still further up the ladder, and Brisbane still have Beams (and the 2002 & 2003 Premierships).
At the time I thought you guys had absolutely shafted us in the Beams deal. He was my favorite player and I never expected Crisp to get anywhere near favorite player status. He's already my favorite player though so I'm not so sure I agree with you about you guys winning the trade. Crisp was meant to be the steak knives, people were saying he was of equal value to about a 3rd round pick. He looks more like being equivalent to a 1st round pick now and at this stage is probably worth more than the guy we were asking for (Aish). I dare say if we got Aish it would've only been pick 5 + Aish too, so in hindsight we are lucky you guys weren't willing to part with him last year.

.
It's great that Crisp has done well. But he's left out of comparisons, because that's not what the article was about. It was about 15 big name players.Crisp wasn't one of those 15, so any comparison is moot.

I wasn't talking about winning the trade (as a whole), just pointing out that Beams is by far a better/more valuable player than Crisp. Again, if you wanted Crisp factored into comparisons, he still won't present as a better 'get' than Beams. No-one was happy to see the back of Crisp, and we'd have him back in a flash, but we would take Beams first any day.

I seem to recall we said Crisp was a player and the Collingwood board said he was Chips. Now they want to know why he isn't ranked as buy of the year. Well, he was a good buy and we told you so. And we got a gem so move on and p..s off.

Exactly, that's my point. The statistics themselves were about the 15 high profile players, but the person who wrote the article decided to take that data and declare Brisbane winners of bragging rights even though no comparison was done.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2015-06-19/lions-land-recruit-of-the-year

"DAYNE Beams is the most valuable recruit of the season and his Brisbane Lions teammate Allen Christensen is not far behind him, statistical software program Aphex has found.

The Collingwood premiership midfielder left the Magpies at the end of last year in what shapes as a win-win deal for both clubs, with the Lions landing Beams and the Magpies receiving pick five (Jordan De Goey) and Jack Crisp.

The Pies also received pick No.25 – which they swapped for Kangaroos midfielder Levi Greenwood – while the Lions acquired Collingwood's fourth-round draft pick (No.67).

According to Aphex, the Lions can take early bragging rights in the deal, with the software program ranking Beams, who has played every game and averaged 29 disposals, the best recruit of 2015."

Yeah, fair enough he is a better player at the moment and probably always will be. With Crisp still only being 21, his potential has me very excited though, I can only dream.

Think you have summed it up pretty well there. There is no doubt as long as Beams continues being the player he is this is an outstanding result for Brisbane. You just dont get to trade elite talent into your club everyday especially when the player is just entering their prime years. Beams was and remains a massive loss at Collingwood. He was at an age where he was the elite bridge between our established stars and the youth coming through. He was the elite talent who was to be around the longest while the team developed and moved back into contention. Brisbane will get his best years and good luck to you. none of Greenwood, De Goey or Crisp will measure up to him as a player. It was a no brainer for you guys to do this deal. we will feel his loss for a long time to come and even the 3 we gained wont likely make up for it.

For us it is turning out better than we anticipated and I admit to doubting Crisps value. It has been mainly him who has helped us get over losing Beams although De Goey looks good also. In the banter at the time Brisbane posters spoke well of Crisp but I think it would be fair to say he has either exceeded or is at the upper levels of what even Brisbane posters were seeing as his worth. Its a credit to him as less than 12 months ago he looked to be heading to delisting and only probably got the 6 games at the end of the season on the back of your bad injury list. Yes he showed promise but when he left Brisbane he was no lock in your 22 if your list was up and fit. likewise on exposed form he started outside Collingwoods best 22 pre season so has really made big steps this season.

He doesnt feature in the article on the VFL website and rightly so because he wasnt seen by either Brisbane or Collingwood as a high profile recruit. His standing has gone a long way up in the game in the last 11 rounds more so than either club would have expected would be my guess. Nature of the business but Crisp has made the loss of Beams a bit more palatable and that was no given 11 rounds ago.
