Speculation Chad Warner [OOC 2025]

I think there is still a chance that Warner stays at Sydney, but the noise is pretty big from the WA about him coming home.
A lot of people criticized what the Eagles did this trade period, but their picks next year make them in prime position over Freo in getting a deal done.

Noise was big on Logan McDonald last season as well.

Taking everything with a grain of salt for the moment.

I really don't understand this logic about picks. Short of some miracle, they are finishing bottom 4 and can just hand over a top 4 pick. Like Baker and Houston last trade period, WC could have picks 1 through 10 and it wouldn't matter if Warner picked Freo.

The reasoning from Barrett in particular was excruciatingly stupid trying to justify what WC did. At the most you could say getting mature players to make themselves more competitive will help convincing Warner but then they also traded Barrass...
It matters, because managers & clubs get in contact about acquiring a player, they want to know how the deal would get done what picks they would use. players don't like putting their necks on the line & nominating a club & it not getting done.

Do you think out of contract that WC need more than access to their own firsts? Secondly to that, do you think Sydney would be able to tell Freo they can't get a deal done with access to up to 3 1sts?

Freo can get the deal doe and the picks will be sufficient with 2 year future trading coming in
I cant see fremantle having the cap space to get this done and Warner will be on massive coin
unless they off load player like$1.-3mill plus type

Capspace is 100% a massive issue. If it was Carlton I would be checking the paper bags. I've always thought it insane we could get both Bolton and Warner and it's large reason why I'd actually rather Pickett if I could. The club definitely have him as priority number 1 though, maybe they plan on booting out Darcy

The picks thing irks me though but I blame Barrett as much as anyone talking absolute dribble on trade radio

Picks are easy to get done and Barrett is a totally bias f witt
When Geelong only have #17 that becomes #20 for smith thats fine - Well thats all they have
Fremantle will have 2 x 1st rounders which they will hand over easily and even possibly a 2nd rounder depending on where the picks fall. But its the salary thats the issue

Im just surprised fremantle couldnt get salary contribution from Richmond for Shai by just settling for #18 and letting Richmond have #14 for $300k x 4 years or even hand your 2nd rounder over

Freo need cap space more than picks going foward and i genuinely believe the eagles offer could could be as high as 8 years $12 mil which would mean he plays his 8th year as a 32 year old

Dont believe Freo could get near that with the list & Salaries they will have on their list once the contracts are updated

Just enjoy his 2025 season in red and white m8
Cause it will be his last

Great addition to thread, bravo 👍

His manager would be doing a disservice by Warner if he signed him up before the final year of his contract. He also waited until the last year of his previous contract as well before extending.

Warner has released no statement saying his going to go home.

Yes we have had Fremantle and West Coast say they are interested, but Fremantle also said they were interested in Logan McDonald as well (and a lot of people on Bigfooty were saying he was gone as well).

A lot of this is media driven (massively actually) currently. Until he either states he is leaving or signs on a new contract there is no real point getting massively hyped up about it. (This year Swans fans were told Hayward was leaving for Carlton, Florent was gone to Victoria, Gulden had big money offers elsewhere, McDonald was going to Fremantle and they all stayed).

Also before you get your hopes up about Warner selecting Fremantle, cap space will be a big issue for you (especially compared to WCE) and a future first a few years into the future in a team that is likely on way up in a draft that will be likely affected by Tasmania won't hold much value.

Not saying he definitely stays, leaves, chooses WCE or Fremantle because I genuinely have no idea (so does everyone else on this forum).

The noise on McDonald was big leading into this season and then Treacy came on like Wayne Carey which most didn’t expect to occur from a bloke pulled out of a rookie draft. McDonald did sign late in the piece, July or August and took unders. Warner different situation.

The noise on McDonald and others means nothing. Mostly just media generated that fools take as fact and then keep the narrative going. Regardless of Treacy's rapid development no one on this forum knows what McDonald's or Freo's thinking was. Signing late means little. Could have been hoping to have a good season hence bumping up his next contract offer.
All pointless speculation.
