H
Port might be shitting themselves that he’ll nominate the crows as a free agent next year, so they’re gonna ship him off to Victoria this year to avoid that issue!..

Crows will have the space next year... and he grew up a crows supporter!.. stranger things..
aha remember what Chad tweeted last time your club wanted to get him? He tweeted #idratherflyalone

Are people here seriously kidding themselves into believing there's even a remote possibility of Wingard not netting band 1? Please.
This is why Port are entitled to demand a lot. They're 100% certain to get band 1, so if he's leaving while out of contract, it's for more than a first rounder.

Recent reports indicate he's choosing between the Bulldogs and St.Kilda. Both teams would have high enough picks + a bit more to satisfy Port you would think.

If Wingard went next year it would definitely be band 1, and likely a top 10 pick.

If he went this year:
Dogs: Pick 7 and Pick 20ish (Dahl Compo) for Wingard and 45 (and maybe a slight later pick swap out way or something)
Saints: Pick 3 for Wingard and 27
Hawks: Pick 14, 32 and 2019 2nd&3rd. I can't see how they can offer much more which makes a deal hard.

1. These are people that have been around bigfooty for a long time. Not blow ins hey mate listen to this.

2. Welcome to free agency. What do you think happens? Wingard has his head in the sand and didn’t know other teams might want him and might want to pay him a tonne of money (despite plenty of people and teams being very vocal about wanting him for years now)

What are port going to do? Pretend free agency doesn’t exist and hope Chad doesn’t notice either?

There is only 3 ways this can end

1. Chad signs and stays at port
2. Chad becomes a free agent next year and we get band 1 compo
3. Chad gets traded this year for a better return than compo.

Port have only tried to negate the chance to #2 happening by being proactive.

Gws are doing it with Shiel this year too.

And pretty soon you’ll notice every other team doing the same thing. Teams aren’t going to go on losing guys like gaff for pick 19 forever. They’re getting smarter.

If Wingard asks to leave now it’s not impossible he was going to leave next year for a much poorer return.
4. Wingard says “trade me to ..” and Port either deal or put up with a player who doesn’t want to be there, and no club wants that

There are enough hints in the interview to suggest they're very keen on this draft, and why wouldn't they be with all the SA talent.

I can see pick 7 + Dahlhaus compensation getting it done. That shitspewing twitter feed mentioned Bailey Williams, but I give that a 0% chance of happening, he's not homesick.

By the sounds of it Port wouldn't have any interest in Bailey Williams. Draft picks are our main target, where abouts would the Dahl compo be?

That’s their opening stance for negotiation. Everyone knows you don’t get your opening position. Just like a bidding club will probably say second rounder, that won’t happen either.
There won't be a lot of negotiating. Port didn't put wingard on the table in order to get bent over. They reckon they can get something they want.

If port don’t get what they want he will be at port in 2019. Simple. Either way I am getting the impression from chad Twitter and Instagram that he doesn’t want to leave anyway

Agree not sure he wants to leave. But for whatever reason Port are pushing him out. I think it’s stupid from Port. If you have such a low salary cap as Port fans have stated surely you can satisfy his contract to stay.

Kochie said anyone is tradable.

They thought they may be in flag contention this year, but obviously not.

Hence they are looking to start again.

IN: Watts, Rockliff, Motlop
OUT: Polec, Wingard

What the actual ****, Port?
Not totally fair. Apparently their cap space is fine, they just don’t wanna pay what they consider overs. And also it would be Rockliff, Watts, Motlop and probably any 2 of Rankine, Rozee and Hately coming in and even more cap space and losing Wingard and Polec. Not saying I agree with the strategy, but it’s not as bad as some make it out to be.

We got Rockliff and Motlop for free, and from all reports we will be getting Lycett for the same. Watts was an understandable roll of the dice by the club in a weak draft.

Polec wants a contract he simply isn’t worth, so we are trading him for assets. If the reports of Wingard wanting a million a year are true then he isn’t worth anywhere near that based on his output over the last three years, so we are exploring what we might be able to get in return.

Trade players for draft picks, recruit free agents for nothing. It’s highly effective list management strategy.

Wingard is one of their best players and Polec is a very consistent contributor.

Watts is a dud, Motlo is flaky and Brisbane weren't unhappy to let Rockliff go.

Your president may be the problem.
