I can't see how the Pies don't beat St Kilda.
yep strong favourites with the bookies for tonight.

I think Pies winning means they will be less desperate next week, perhaps a little more confident, but less desperate...so I think I want them to win tonight. Bottom line we play like we did in first 40 minutes against Carlton, we win next week

Was reading Zorko has put his hand up to go back. So I'd reckon if it's out like that, it's likely to happen. In a distributing role I think works, defensively a concern. Mentioned earlier in thread by someone, he is too short to compete in the air but Starce, Lester, Doedee (if he plays) all read the ball in the air pretty well, should be able to cover for him. We've been lacking ground work down there, Zorko should compensate. He will need a lesson when the ball comes in quick and low, that's when he'll be caught short.

All eyes on the back 7 to be selected. Up against Miochek, Frampton/Howe, and Cox/Cameron, I think we're going to need a bit of height down back. If Payne is fit, he should have a "get ya confidence back" game in the ressies. The only way I can see him not play v Pies is if he is injured. If he is out, I think we've gotta break the glass and consider Joyce. We can't just have Andrews on his own v those talls. Sure Joyce gave some free kicks away but at least he was close enough to his man to do so. Other than that I didn't think he was terrible when he played.

Conceivably the back 7 could be

Starce, Joyce, Lester
Zorko, Andrews, Wilmot

Doedee.

Ah Chee, could definitely rotate with Zorko. In fact I think I'd rather Cal back there than Zorko full stop.

We've also gotta have enough speed back there to cover Elliot, Hill, McCreery, Shultz.

Who'd be a selector? Lol.

Hill , Elliot and Schutz .

That's going to be a tough match up for us.

Zorko is a great distributor. It's a great option, and probably the only effective one.

Lester > Schultz
Starcevich > Elliott
Wilmot > Hill
I think Answeeth still stays in the team so we have enough defensive ability in the back 7 for Zorko to go back as the distributor.

I known elite triathletes that have given their everything and been beyond exhausted. Desperation/ their opportunity for five minutes of fame is an awesome motivator.

Exhausted, not able to compete or train with any intensity for months. Some is physical and some is sub consciously reacting to protect themselves. The mind always plays mind tricks to protect the body.

Given the two teams that played in the best ever Grand final are performing really poorly, I am wondering if they just spent everything in that game to that same level.

No idea how to fix it. Maybe the rerun next week is what they both need.

For sure. And would have the discipline to stick with Hill who is easily their most dangerous forward right now. Still staggered at the space he was given at times in the gf.

I don’t think defence has been too bad so far, barring the Payne game.

Midfield is the worry. Neale back and fit should be a huge boost. Hoping JL is not there as we need a better mix.

Pies won hitouts 47-13 and lost centre clearances 16-10. They are not going well in there with Pendlebury and Mitchell struggling. Not sure how much mid he played but jdg only had 13 touches.

Definitely wary of collingwood and we are going badly. But i think better to get them off a loss. If we can get a lead (which is the one thing we have managed so far!) their confidence should be low.

I think Steele tagged de Goey. Not sure what’s been going on with Dunks but would be great if he could shut him down again

Mitchell, Sidebottom & Pendlebury all cooked.

Just have run a lose tag with de Goey (Dunkley), Daicos #2 (Robertson) and Daicos #1 (Berry), then let the rest of our mids chase the ball.

Tom Mitchell was so bad, looked like a deer in the headlights.

The good thing is the Pies have generally looked pretty poor all round whereas we have either played some of the best footy we are capable of and the absolute floor. So raise the floor of our effort and we should be dandy.

Im not a huge fan of Answerths ball use but will never question his pressure and effort. I think he should be a good option for Hill with Starc on Schultz (or vice versa).

I still think we should look to Prior and Ah Chee getting locked into the backline. To me they offer the best combination of defensive and offensive capabilities of all the options. And they are not players who I will question their effort

If we can't mentally get up to play the pies after they the GF we might as well pack the season in now.

Our group tends to play a lot on emotion (generally charged by being the underdog), it's something we need to outgrow as a team, but if we come out flat against the pies this week it will be very concerning for the rest of the year.

Not surprising. Most of the Collingwood and Carlton players from 1970 would be nudging if not in their 80s.

Until McKenna returns I'd like to see a regular 6-7 players given a chance to settle in. And I couldn't agree more with the reasoning for Ah Chee and Prior. We lose 2 attacking sparks in Kiddy and McKenna. We don't have 2 sparks to replace them with. Ah Chee and Prior while not as creative, they are defensively very sound. I'll take that for half a dozen games, forming some sort of combination.

To do the same with the tall defenders to give every opportunity to build a combination do, Andrews, Payne and Doedee start now, v Pies? Do we drop Lester, bite the bullet with Payne, give them a chance to settle?

I'd be happy to lock in

Starce, Payne, Doedee
Ah Chee, Andrews, Wilmot

Prior

I think they could build a pretty solid combo. I'd hope they could grow as a unit. I know Ah Chee wants to play fwd but I reckon at this moment he is best for the team down back. We did get him to play that role, and he was good when he did. Even when Mckenna returns I think Cal down there adds a bit more spark and smarts.
