It changes everything in the f50. The set up that has worked for the past 12 mths. I can't see any reason to roll the dice.

But if you only ever have 2 up forward at once, it actually keeps the set up that we seem to want as our first choice - 2-4. At the moment, when Cox is ruck or one of Mihocek, or Cox is on the bench, pretty close to half the game - we become 1-5, .

And you lose a mid from the bench.

And you lose a mid from the bench.

Your bench doesn't just cover the rotations of the mids though. They cover the rotations of everyone one on the team. If you do the maths, the equivalent of one bench spot currently covers the rotations of the 5 talls that start on the ground. If we do actually favour a 2-4 forward mix and a 2-4 defender mix, the only way of maintaining that mix for the whole match is to have a tall on the bench. I'm probably underestimating the difficulty of timing all of the tall defender, tall forward and ruck rotations in order to make it work, but I'm also confident that it can be made to work and I suspect that whilst we have 6 talls playing well, we'll trial it at some stage.

After some Saturday beers and some Tottenham red card madness I'm set, Coxy rest, Reid stays in

Aish for Adams, if Aish still no good then give the Bull a game

If Coxy comes back in is Reid any chance of playing fullback. Seems to be moving best I have seen in a fair while and is a great kick around the ground.

Time will tell. It's a pressure game and I cant see how playing another tall helps that. As I said I'll be happy to be wrong down the track.

Btw what happens out of the goal square with another tall? Where does stepho or elliot or degoey play?

When you already have 3 players who can play taller in de Goey, Hoskin-Elliott and Elliott because they are very capable overhead, throw in Mihocek adding Reid then on top of Cox who both really rely on marking for scoreboard impact then the air space is going to get crowded and sacrificing one for more ground ball ability inside f50 seems preferential for balance.

Cox hobbling about in a moonboot gives us an easy out on having to make tricky decisions this week. Just give Mase an extra week to make sure he's cherry ripe for the Saints. That allows Reid another week to ply his wares. One game is a very small sample size after all.

I was stoked to see Reid back and playing decent footy at AFL level, but that doesn't erase the nice balance we have with Cox/Mihocek/fleet of smaller forwards.

Whether people like him or not, Aish was in the 22, so my guess is he'll be straight back in for Adams and they shuffle the midfield deck chairs.

I like the idea of Greenwood on Cripps, but I wouldn't be surprised if we had him (or another mid) run closely with Walsh. Cripps is an absolute beast and I can't not like him despite the wretched stench of Carlton. They've got a ripper there. But if you nullify the talented Walsh, which is the easier task, Cripps is on his Pat Malone.

Carlton are saying 3 weeks for Simpson but possibly only a week for Kreuzer. If Kreuzer misses, Grundy will absolutely smash them. If he plays, he's still a very good ruck and makes Grundy much more accountable. For me he's the difference between a close-ish game and a blowout.

Mihocek going nowhere anytime soon would be guess.

Better output than Cox last season and Reid historically when played forward and done it in his first season.

His contribution has been outstanding to date and no one saw it coming.

Better runner across the ground and offers an ability that neither Cox or Reid does as a forward and that's being able to regularly create scoring opportunities for himself gathering the ground ball.

Marking not to shabby either and not for the first time this time season I thought he had one of those almost games last night whereby he nearly managed to grasp some difficult marking opportunities. His luck will change and 1/2 goal games will turn into 3/4.

For mine it's a case of Cox or Reid if a decision needs to be made.

Cox the better relief ruck option whose sheer size makes him a difficult forward proposition.

Reid the smarter and more well rounded footballer.

Let’s just hope they are both for late in the year cos what a problem to have

Thought brown did well after Adams went down and should get first go at covering Adams role, with Adams out Varcoe would be my in I rate the pace and harassment he brings would also consider rewarding wills for consistent vfl form.
Give cox another week need him cherry ripe and those calling for greenwood to get dropped must see the game very differently than me,I’ve never been his biggest fan but he seems to be running into form and should easily hold his spot.

You need a big body at the contest to combat Cripps, that’s the only way you can quell his influence. Wills in for his first game for sure

I wonder if they'll ever rest Grundy or play him out for 90% of the season so he's cooked in the finals.
They wouldn't do that, would they?

Sorry what is this resting Grundy business?

Me no understand.

The guy thrives on work. Loves it.

Plenty of rest time, Round 13 and after Round 23 each of one week.

Then in October he can rest walking in the Himalayas or some such.

Wills would definitely be in the conversation, as far as keeping Cripps on a chain it has to be a team effort don’t know you can lock him down? Too strong, Pendlebury running with him worked once but not sure it’s the go to,
Maybe Treloar to work off him and try to keep him accountable?? Glad we have coaches to work these things out, not a easy job keeping Cripps out of the picture.
