Prediction Changes for Round 8 vs Carlton

You need a big body at the contest to combat Cripps, that’s the only way you can quell his influence. Wills in for his first game for sure

Wills in for sure?
That’s a laugh.

It’s not a certainty at all and to be honest we don’t need him.
It would be a downgrade to our onball brigade.

Given we are losing one of our top end players in Adams, I think it’s a fair statement to say that almost anyone of our other options to fill the void may be a downgrade to our on-ball brigade. The only exception would be De Goey moving in there and playing 70/30 midfield/forward.

I tend to think maintaining forward structure and function given it’s starting to click should take precedence, that Wills comes in and plays 65% game time and that De Goey has his valuable bursts on the ball.

Wills has been named as an emergency for a number of weeks and I just can’t see them doing that if they had absolutely no intention of playing him. Now that a spot has opened, I would say the logical thing - given Bucks speaks about integrity at selection - is that he gets his chance.

Whether or not we agree with that is another story. I know he has his deficiencies but I’d be prepared to give him a chance and, like all of our players, hope he can take it if it comes with both hands

Time will tell. It's a pressure game and I cant see how playing another tall helps that. As I said I'll be happy to be wrong down the track.

Btw what happens out of the goal square with another tall? Where does stepho or elliot or degoey play?

Ilove our current forward set up. I'm not talking about changing the forward set up. I'm talking about maintaining it for the entire match, which we don't currently do because Cox rucks and both Cox and Mihocek spend time on hte bench - same with our defensive set up.

Tough selection week, so a tough call on a player looms. Coxy looks to be right to go against Carlton, and he plays because of his ruck support, and the matchup headaches he causes defences. Reid stays because he was so very good against Port, and should have kicked 4, at least. So for me:

Out: Mihocek (Unlucky, but a quite past fortnite), Adams (Inj)

In: Cox, Wells

When people debate whether we can fit all of Cox, Mihocek and Reid in the one side you have to factor de Goey in also as he's basically a de facto key forward such is his ability and presence within f50.

+ Elliott is hardly a vacuum cleaner who lives exclusively at ground level to gobble up the crumbs.

Agree, he costs us when he refuses to pass to a teammate in a better position. I reckon he did himself a bit of damage with the coach when he didn't pass to Phillips and kicked into the opposition directly in front of him.

When there’s been a quick turnover and a forward finds himself with an open forward line, he’s got the luxury to look around, assess out the best option, and if there are no better ones then compose himself and slot the goal.

But when it’s a chaos ball in the forward line players don’t have time to think, forwards are expected to back themselves and take the shot.

Yeah, we whack players for not looking for better options. But we also whack players for getting caught with the ball because they were dilly dallying around trying to find the best option.

Wills for Adams, I like to see him lock down Cripps.

Is Wills capable of playing a lock down role? It's not something I've seen him do.

Agree it's a tightrope at chaos time and I'll always back the player that backs their instincts at that chaos moment, whatever the outcome.

You high ????

I would use Greenwood as a tag on Cripps, bring in Wells for Adams. Wellsy has had 3 games under his belt, had a week off, so will be cherry ripe to go.
Your plan is a little silly on a number of fronts. First, Cox doesn't look "right to go" at all. He's still in a moon boot. You can't really justify dropping Mihocek considering he's actually kicked goals and doing what is asked of him.

Second, why would we bring Greenwood up the ground to tag and not bring in another small defender to replace Greenwood's original spot?

Third, Buckley has specifically stated he wants to see a full four-quarter performance from Wells in the VFL. He also said that Wells is yet to walk into his office and declare himself right to go for the seniors.

Not at all, what would you change?

All of it mihocheck plays before both Reid and cox as he can get ground ball the other 2 are all but non existent in that area so wouldn’t have them both in forward half without mihocheck.

I’d bring in Aish for Adams only because Sier isn’t ready.

Cox does not only draw defenders to him because of his size, but he brings the ball to ground for Elliott, Thomas, De Goey etc, and Reid is a strong mark, and good on the lead. Reid should everyone on Friday night, how good a player he is when fit.
Mihocek, l think is fantastic and he has been terrific for us in what he has been able to do. I just think his last 2 weeks, he has struggled a little, and not been able to get near it really. Against l would like to see how the Cox/Reid combo works. Unfortunately we cant play all three, in my opinion.

Couldn’t possibly lose to Carlton now after today’s showing against Nth could we? Or do we (the boys) go in over confident and mung it all up? Slightly nervous about losing to a team we shouldn’t. It’s happened a lot in our past (many teams).

I can’t see us losing but I can see an Ugly disappointing win. That lately been par for the course against them.

Greenwood 181cm, Cripps 195cm. Just doesn't work for mine.

Wells needs to put 4 quarters together for mine so not quite ready yet. VFL bye came at a bad time for him. That equally applies to Sier who needed to play this week to be any chance.

Wouldn't go into next week expecting the Filth to play that poorly again.
