I’ve come around. I’m now an optimist.

Dunkley needs to go to Wines.

If Wines is out of the game it gives us the luxury of playing Bontempelli forward because I trust our midfield of Macrae, Treloar, Smith and Hunter (with a tagging Dunkley) to overcome their midfield minus Wines.

That then gives us the luxury of a Bont/English/Schache forward line whilst potentially having a Naughton/Gardner/Cordy back line. The defence is still a worry but assuming we are on top in the midfield then I have faith.

I think if we’re relying on Schache going back and playing out of his skin intercepting we’ve already lost, sounds simple but I think we just have to kick goals tonight, win the midfield battle, dominate forward half possession and put scoreboard pressure on

What we need is our back six or eight or however many are rotated through there to work as a team. Each one does their job, but they work as a team. If one is out of position, another one of two covers them and again. It's not one on one, it's teamwork. Same right across the ground, hunt in packs. That's what'll get it done.

I'd prefer we kick goals on Saturday night... I think they'll be more meaningful then ;)

we and the media need to get over 2016. Yes it was the greatest month in our lives and all these comparisons are nice and fluffy but we are a completely different team with a different make up. And so are others.

This team needs to make it's own story and not follow one from 5 years ago.

Port will play and set up similar to how they played against Us and Geelong. They are a known quantity.

Us on the other hand will be different. I don’t even though how our midfield will set up. Will Bont play forward, how will dunks and Treloar play, do we have a plan for the dew on Libba tag. English will ruck a lot more than he did last time and Martin is very competitive in ruck contests. What is the plan for Allir.

So many variables for us here which could pay off or backfire. Just say Bont plays 80/20 fwd/mid in first half and is fit enough and the game is close. Put Bont on the ball in the last and he destroys it. Wishful thinking But it could happen. Bont could kick 4.1 instead of 1.4 in the first half And then win the game in the midfield in the 2nd.

can Treloar have a red hot game. He has played 5 games now. Someone said after the same injury it took Danger 4/5 games to regain form and confidence.

Will dunks tag Wines or Boak and completely shut them dow. Could Naughts have a day out where he is unstoppable. So many ifs for us and not many for them.

we can win if our changes pay off. The intensity is back, our run is back and our midfield is better. I still expect to lose but will not be surprised if we showed very few cards last time we played and They showed their full deck.

Absolutely. I think the point is countering the negativity that has us almost conceding defeat before the bounce.

2016 is just an example that it can be done. That if we show up and everyone performs their role like in 2016, we'll go a hell of a long way. Nothing more than that.

We are a chance. 50/50 game. Our backs are going to be pressed hard. Need Dale in particular to handle it. We know Daniel and Williams will.

Will not miss watching English and Young getting rag dolled in the middle by a journeyman like Lycett.

Tipping Treloar for BOG.libba and Bont may play more fwd IMO.

Big Charlie on Zaine is a worry. Wet weather and Wood to help hopefully.

It's not that far fetched when the team has 9 premiership players and the same coach. The same coach that inspired the 2016 team is inspiring the 2021 team.

Can I just pay tribute to the traveling squad.

Beyond about 25/26 players, the balance are -
- and would know they are - very unlikely to play. However they went on this tour of Australia with the soul purpose of supporting their teammates, providing opposition at training, enabling scratch matches to be played for the benefit of those on the fringe and building team morale.

Not an easy thing to do in normal times - even tougher when you have to leave family, girlfriends and friends behind as they endure lockdown

However far this journey takes us - and I’m a believer - they are a major part of it and their role should not be forgotten

Don’t forget, we have one significant advantage

As mentioned yesterday I’m really jealous of those who have remained positive following Keath’s injury. I’d say the 3 players we could least afford to lose as Bont, Keath and Naughton. One is out and one other carrying an injury.

Schache simply must play back to intercept. If Cordy gets caught in one on ones vs Dixon he’ll kick a bag.

I'd be thinking Gardner is the better match up, with Cordy to take Marshall / Ladhams along with help from Wood and Williams.

Speaking of comparisons to 2016. Imagine the melts if because of the pre grand final bye (assuming we win) we get Cody and Keath back.

You only won because of the bye!

You only won because of the bye
You only won because of the umpires
You only won because....blah-blah-blah...

The squiggle has us as a 45% chance to win. Seems about right to me. On the one hand, Port Adelaide have much closer to a full-strength side to choose from; but on the other hand, we have the best looking jumper in the competition.

Go dogs!

What about players? With Wood, Dunkley, Bont, and Gardner in, we have quite a handsome side which obviously increases our chances.

If we win, it's because of the umpires, if we lose, it's because of the umpires ('didn't help ya this time'). Umpires clearly have an influence over our games so much more than they do over other games.

I was thinking of them the other day. It would be quite an adventure and good for the development of say a Bedendo or a Khamis, so much more than being stuck home in lockdown.

Not unlike the Australian Davis Cup teams taking one or two of their most promising juniors to overseas ties with them.
Give them a taste and get them ready for the day they have to step into the cauldron.

S.A. Gov won’t let us do a captains run and final training session.

This is crazy. AFL shouldn’t have scheduled a game in a State where one team can’t do a training session before the game.

Hope the boys use this as more fuel.
But Port can?
