Because Goodwin is reluctant to try anything different. Dogga was useless last night. He rucked for far too long.
To be fair, his stubbornness probably won the flag last year. If they’d panicked mid 3rd quarter in the GF and changed lots it could’ve been a different outcome.

Having said that, it’s all last roll of the dice from here, with a week to train with different personnel or setups. I’d rather lose worse with a different look up forward than lose right with the same look.

I bet he will rush McDonald in. I could see him doing that. He might bring in Bowey for Hunt but that’s it.

IN: Bowey, JVR

OUT: Salem (sub), Melksham

Bowey in is an absolute no brainer. I’d be happy for Salem to go out but more likely it will be Hunt.

We have a free swing on JVR IMO. Melk has done the best he could in that role but the idea you could win a flag with Melk opposed to Tom Stewart or Darcy Moore or even McCartin is just ludicrous. If JVR plays and doesn’t get a kick so what, we’re not winning a flag with the forward line we played last night. If he dukes a couple then all of a sudden we’ve got another option nobody has seen before.

I'd go this too. TMc seems half-cooked with his foot. Better a fit young bloke than a half-paced McDonald
Bowey's composure would be very handy. We were so fumbly with the ball.

In - New coaches .
Well seeing as that won't happen , I know what i'd do . Just can't see Goodwin breaking out from his conservative mind frame .
Harmes might get a week ( he shouldn't ) , who knows with the tribunal .
Are we the only club that seems reluctant to use the emergency sub ?
Anyway I suspect he will give the same team a chance of redemption . Throwing T-Mac in would be stupid . Just watch the Casey game and you will see why.
Maybe ins M.Brown , JVR . Bowey .

I just can’t see them going with TMac. He only ever plays well when he’s fit and firing but he and the club know he has rushed his rehab.
I think he’s only bothered to rush it as a break glass in case of emergency, Ben Brown goes down in a prelim scenario.

TMac season is over surely! Bring in JVR! This team needs a spark FFS! Nothing better than a debut in finals to give some spark.

Bowey for Hunt(Harmes if suspended)
JVR for Melksham
Bedford for ANB(been s* all year long)

In: Bowey
Out: Neal-Bullen

(assuming Harmes not suspended). Melksham had a shocker last night but he's been in pretty good form prior to last night. I'd be inclined to give him another opportunity

Neal-Bullen has always frustrated me - not a fan. Bowey is a cool head and good decision maker

I think we are stuck with Brown at this stage, I cant see how McDonald comes in does much better. Our forwardline is our biggest weakness unfortunately.

Next week could be a very low crowd number. Thought the Swans outnumbered us in the crowd tonight which is embarrassing. Throwing a $20 on the Lions we were that insipid.
Agree next weeks crowd won’t be as big as Semis are always lower than QF and PF but come on that was a massive Melbourne sided crowd last night. It was mentioned on radio during the week that the Swans didn’t sell as much tickets as expected during the Membership allocation which is why the predicted 80k crowd was so impressive.

Last nights 78k was the Swans biggest non grand final crowd since Melbourne vs Sydney semi in 1987 where 80k went. Those 2 games are their biggest non grand final crowds the swans have played in front since moving to Sydney. And only one other crowd as South Melbourne beats those.

Swans non grand final MCG finals crowds since 1987:
2022 QF vs Melbourne 78k
2017 SF vs Geelong 55k
2016 PF vs Geelong 71k
2013 QF vs Hawthorn 59k
2011 SF vs Hawthorn 55k
2010 SF vs Bulldogs 39k
2008 SF vs Bulldogs 42k
2007 EF vs Collingwood 64k
2005 PF vs St Kilda 73k
2004 SF vs St Kilda 50k
1999 QF vs Essendon 57k
1997 QF vs Bulldogs 62k
1987 SF vs Melbourne 80k

You really think Swans had half the crowd last night? You really think 39k Swans fans decided to attend this years final but not others?

Well apparently Trac has a hairline fracture of his leg but the club is still confident he'll play. Surely they roll the dice with beating the Lions without him and give him extra rest to get ready for a prelim.

Considering that, my ins and outs are:

Out: Petracca, Melk, Salem
In: Dunstan, Smith, Bowey

Bedford to come in if Harmes is suspended.

Club says they expect him to play .
Scans have revealed a hairline fracture and heavily corked calf for Petracca, but he's remarkably still expected to play through it next Friday night against the Lions. (source MMM)

Whether Petracca plays or not would depend on if it’s an injury that would heal significantly with an extra week of rest.

If not, they’ll just jab him up and play.

It was clear he didn’t have proper feeling in his leg though, so if they want to play him they’ll have to test out if he can kick properly with the injury.

Dunstan in a final pls no.
Leave Angus in the mids, bring in Chandler to replace Trac.
Kosi and Sparrow a bit more midfield time each.
If Petracca is out Dunstan is exactly the player I’d want in. That’s the whole point of why he was recruited.

Sure he’s limited and not a patch on Petracca (but nobody they bring in or rotate from already in the team is that), but he has good physical size and has trained to play in Melbourne’s midfield all year.

I like Chandler, but every time he’s got an AFL chance he has looked a fair way off it, one practice match excluded. You can at least be confident in what Dunstan should bring.

Dunstan is a break glass in case of emergency, one player being out of our midfield isn't enough for me to want to play him, we have plenty of options already playing to replace Trac in Gus, Sparrow and Harmes.

To be fair, he is probably more the Oliver or Viney style backup than he is Petracca. Dunstan does manage a few goals at VFL level at least.
