Understand your point on Sweet - but McComb's had two weeks at basically 0% DE. So effectively, he's not getting it, aside from the goals today. I'm not trying to have a go at him personally, it's just obvious 1) he's struggling at the level and 2) we need to get games into KPP instead of 15th/16th in line midfielders...
Yeah I'm honestly completely with you there. Just can't see the match committee looking at it the same way (frustratingly)

1 more week of Martin.

Luckily Port don't really have a great ruckman now Lycett is out
Yeah Hayes was pretty crap this week. Got destroyed in the ruck (had little support to be fair, but still) and did next to nothing outside the ruck contests. Actually feels like an ideal week to bring Sweet into the side, given English probably won't be back and Martin is pretty much cooked at this point

In: Khamis, Crozier
Out: Wallis (inj.), Williams

We just have to get Khamis in this week for more of an aerial threat. We can’t allow Allir to play on a small and chop off every entry.

Williams needs to go back and find some form consideration we have a direct replacement ready to go. As bad as he’s been, he’s only played a half of VFL footy all year. Needs to get his confidence back before we promote him again.

Georgiades might miss the game so in theory we should match up okay with them in defence. Gardner to Marshall, O’Brien to Finlayson and the rest are smaller types.

Id be surprised if Georgiades misses

They rested him for fresh legs

Yeah Port are going to be just as tired playing in a slop in Cairns so shouldn't be too much of a disadvantage there IMO.
yes playing in wet is extremely fatiguing, no advantage there.

still cant see us winning with that side,

i would play Crozier if Wallis is injured, we need the experience and foot skills

In: Crozier, Buku, Scott
Out: Wallis, Cordy, Williams

As much as some of his disposals are horrendous. We know McComb ain't getting dropped. Hopefully he keeps adjusting to the speed of the game & it improves. Can more regular VFL watchers confirm or deny if it is this bad at that level too?

In: Khamis Crozier
Out: Wallis, Williams
Sub: West

McComb had some very poor disposals however his positioning and work rate is very good and did kick 2 snags. I'm not sold on him making it however he is slowly building into the level and think he has earned the chance again. Williams is just fried at the moment and needs sustained VFL games to build himself up however if he doesn't turn it around give the Crows a call for Strachan. Wallis stays if fit just worried about 5 day turn around

Weird week for selection.

I feel like McComb and McNeil put together some of the worst 2 and 3 goal games I've seen, respectively, but the goal tally means you can't (and we won't) drop them - especially when you look at the VFL and your mid options are West, Butler and Jones. Yeesh.

Williams could maybe go out but is fairly important structurally. I continue to be uninspired by Roarke and Vanders this season but it would be harsh to move them out (although Vanders costing the captain two goals won't help him :)). Wallis will probably come out regardless of what the injury is, anything foot related is risky.

We need to play taller this week, it's a non-negotiable. I would be playing Khamis, personally, but I imagine Bev picks Schache. I wouldn't be surprised if that's our only change.

To those watching VFL - how far off is Cleary? Is he playing purely as a defender or up the field?

Surprised at the pile-on for McComb. He’s a 2nd gamer and was very competitive and applied a ton of pressure. His 2nd game was better than his first and you can’t drop someone who’s improving as he adjusts unless you have stars coming back. Happy to give him a 3rd game and see further improvement. It will be interesting if VFL watchers could provide any insight into his disposal whether it really is that bad or a case of nerves.

Are your eyes painted on?

His pressure and tackling was great

He's tracking pretty alright, was one of our best against Essendon although he had a couple of dump kicks coming out of defence that will kill us at senior level. We do have a good prospect with him as he's pretty competitive.

Agree. I was hoping he would have a good game, felt a bit sorry for him being out of his depth so much last week. Obviously it takes a while to get used to the speed of AFL, last week that was a big issue for him. This week, I actually felt he thought he had less time to dispose of the ball then he actually had, so clearly he worked on that during the week. There were a few absolute howlers but you'd hope that if he gets a bit more game time that will improve. There is zero chance he gets dropped on that performance.

Agree that Khamis has now shown repeat form as a forward in the VFL, so it's time for him to come in.

Changes:
Out: Wallis (inj)
In: Khamis

He had a very almost a blinder kind of game. Got amongst it and was doing a lot of the right things, but he had a serious case of the fumbles. You could see what he was trying to do a lot of the time, but just couldn't get a good handle on the ball. Straight kicking though is a very big deal.

These are my changes as well. Williams has dropped his form substantially this season, needs to regain confidence in the twos. Crozier can play his role better at present.
Khamis comes in as our 2nd tall forward and pinch-hitting ruckman. We need Weightman to play a more disciplined game and not fly for every high ball that comes in. Naughts and Khamis can provide the marking options, they don't need Weightman competing with them.

No need for the insult.

3 goal games are pretty rare so saying it's amongst the worst I've seen doesn't mean it was bad overall. Like inyourfacedunk said, though, his involvements weren't always clean. I thought his play up the field was quite poor, pressure aside. He was late to contests, didn't cover his man, and fumbled at key moments.

As I said, you can't drop him, and I wouldn't - because kicking 3 goals is a great effort and exactly what we need. I am just acknowledging that the typical candidates for omission mostly had reasonable or better games. There are signs there, though, that against better opposition he might struggle, as he has in the past. I hope he continues to offer the pressure and goals that we sorely need atm, but there are some things he really does need to clean up to feature regularly.

In : Khamis, Sweet, Crozier
Out : Williams, Martin, Vandemeer

Would play Cordy on Aliir in the same role Schache olayed last year.

West would feel hard done by this year IMO.
