Just as easily a game in which Mitch could have fired. In every stat that matters Mitch is a country mile ahead of Orazio. Perhaps most importantly, Mitch is match fit, Raz is not. A couple of games in the Maggies for him with long stints in the midfield might get him up to scratch but he understandably looks rusty, rushed and rooted if he has to run to far in a passage of play.
I can see Finlayson coming in makes us a better team because he can do second ruck duties, is a specialist forward and could even be played in a couple of other spots if required. I do feel for Mitch thought because I am not sure a spell in the Maggies is going to help his goal kicking. For mine that is what is wrong with his game is his goal kicking and his confidence based on that. 6 marks a game, 3 I50 and 4.5 shots on goal so far...who can expect more from a 3rd tall (other than he kick the goals)???
Boak and Clurey are natural inclusions but as with so many Hinkley selections they are a week late and a player short.
I thought we started the season behind the eightball when Jonas was appointed captain for this season making him almost impossible to drop or manage throughout the year. He is no longer Mr Versatile defender. Sadly it is a matter of trying to find an opposition forward he can stand on without exposing us these days.

Selection changes seem pretty measured.
MG had a bad game, no impact and lacked confidence to back himself in the contest. Still learning and he needs to be persisted with.
Burgoyne was too pedestrian and deer in the headlights performance. Collingwood at the G' is a different beast.
Orazio out I don't mind, had very little impact and all he wants is to kick goals and not defend. Really could've dropped Jones but his scrappy style of play will benefit a Showdown.

Georgiades - needs to find confidence. A game or two in the maggies wont do him any harm, and Finlayson is a good replacement who can play multiple roles.
Burton - Bonner is a great fill-in for him. Was playing good footy & was best-22 late last year.
Burgoyne - Clurey is the correct replacement for McKenzie - What were they thinking last week, bringing in Burgoyne for McKenzie? Threw the kid under the bus. Morons! Argument is there that they could/should have selected Pasini, but he might not be 100% ready - His time will come.
Fantasia - Jones replaces him as a small power forward. Had a great game there in round one ... It was a moronic move playing him on Daicos. Not only was it a mismatch, it unsettled team dynamic, and potentially damages Jones' confidence ... Fools!!

The entire team structure is restored to that similar to round one. If we lose to the Crows, rub the place out & start again.

Will be one of the most interesting Showdowns ever. Both coaches on the chopping block.
If Port find a way to lose this then Stinkers is sacked and Josh Carr takes over.
If Crows hammered then Stevie, Uncle Fester or whatever they call him gets flicked and Scott Burns moves in.

Surely Orazio is the sub. Would be good to bring him on in a burst late, he has a knack for creating chances in front of goal even when he is playing poorly. Unless they are worried about crows small forwards and need Burgoyne as cover?

In the Brisbane game we had Aliir, Burton, McKenzie and Jonas as the talls (although I am struggling with Jones being a ‘tall’) - so 4 talls. We brought in Burgoyne for McKenzie for the Collingwood game, leaving us with three talls. This week, we replaced Burton with Clurey, and Bonner comes in as well while Burgoyne goes out - so still three talls. So we are not going back to the same mix as against Brisbane.

Jonas is 188 or 6'2. That's barely an average mid these days. Certainly not a tall defender with the number of 200+cm brutes around

Clurey was always going to be the safe selection for kern, and I don't have an issue with Pasini spending a couple of more weeks at the Maggies to get some form and confidence in his knee before AFL selection.
With the suspension of Burton the matchup for Rankine will be interesting, it probably has to be DBJ, but if so I can see him being torn a new one!

We do say this every year.But 2023 looks like a really competitive season.Atm only the Hawks and Gold Coast look like there struggling.

This is NOT correct. Clurey is 193cm and comes in to replace McKenzie's spot ... Check the line-ups of the two games. Aliir moves away from lockdown-defender to his preferred spot, while Bonner (190cm) takes over Burton's (191cm) spot in the backline.
So our talls in defense are...
Aliir 194cm
Clurey 193cm
Bonner 190cm
Jonas 188cm (plays tall)
This is very much similar to the Brisbane line-up, and is far more balanced.
Burton wasn't playing as a tall defender role against Brisbane though - he shutdown Brisbane's best small forward and provided some rebound. We went from 3 FPDs to 2 + Burton covering and now back to 3 again, which it always should have been.
If you're going purely on stats rather than role played, Burton and Bonner are listed about the same height (191/190) - both taller than Jonas.
Not sure this is the right place for this.
The main issue with the forward line is the mix of players. Historically the best set up for any team is a two-talls forward line - Roughhead-Franklin; Smith-Hodges; Hawkins-Cameron. I could give stacks more examples. Over the past 18 months we have tried a three tall or even at times a four tall set up. It doesn't work. Everyone just gets in each other's way. We should pick two talls and stick with them for a while.
I would go with Marshal CHF and Georgiades FF - I think they are the future and the present.
Dixon has been the focal point for years and he kicks the impossible or he will kick straight when we are ahead or behind by stacks but just does not do the business when it is needed. He is also 33. I think it is first ruck or nothing for Dixon now. This also resolves the Lycett issue - who seems to have become close to worst first ruck in the comp. Dixon can be plonked up forward when we are desperate or as something different occasionally.
I've seen both games live this year. Marshall has played alright but not great - he makes the most of his chances. Fundamentally, however, he is too timid and too deferential to Dixon. He doesn't attack space - often because someone else is already there clogging it up. He should be told he is the number 1 guy and it's his forward line and everyone else is there to help make space for him. He ultimately might or might not be good enough to be our number 1 but it's time to give it a go. It is also just such a big advantage that he kicks straight.
I would stick with Georgiades because he has got the most potential now and in the long term. As others have mentioned he has been creating chances. He just looks totally bereft of confidence kicking for goal. That could change. If a few things has gone different he might have started the season averaging 2 goals a game - which would be alright. He did miss from the goal square in the first game and tried a few overly difficult shots - where he probably should have passed. He does need more awareness and smarts as well as straighter kicking. It might help if his teammates were more aware of his struggles and more willing to run past for the handball when he is lining up.
Finlayson does not really play as a key forward - he generally does not come to ball. He clearly has something to offer the team though. I would play him on the wing ahead of Dursma and have him drifting forward with the flight of the ball. + Helping out in the ruck.

I'd argue Hawthorn were 3 tall. 13 they had Franklin, Roughead, Gunston. Then they had a combo of Roughead, Gunston, Hale & Schoenmakers.
West Coast had Kennedy, Darling and a mix of Waterman and Vardy.
Bulldogs had Stringer, Boyd and Redpath (until injury).
Richmond had Lynch, Riewoldt and for much of each season Chol.
The main issue I feel is our forward entries, not the talent or structure at our disposal. Neither Richmond, Geelong, Bulldogs, or Hawthorn just bombed it in long and hoped for a contested mark in a pack of 12 hands and arms like we've done constantly since 2018.
