A golden opportunity to skip to 7-5 and into 8th, If Port beat the Tiges.

Equal seventh on percentage if the Dees beat the Swans

And if Richmond lose we will be ninth but will skip two games clear of Port behind us, leaving just the Suns one game back along with the Dogs who we will pass.

Good things happen if you win.

Good change. T.Brown goes back to the VFL for a few weeks in the middle.
McInnes the sub for mine.

B - Quaynor Moore Murphy
HB - Maynard Howe Crisp
C - J.Daicos DeGoey Noble
HF - Elliott Cameron Sidebottom
F - Ginnivan Mihochek Henry
R - Cox Adams Pendlebury
INT - Lipinski N.Daicos WHE McCreery

Solid.
Underrated.

Josh Carmichael in there may well squeeze out yet another beige player and I dare say that Dean will debut. So as we slowly make refinements, this is a list that can play finals.

We need six wins from 12 games to sure up a finals berth. Very doable. Some difficult opponents in the last four but I think we make it.

Reckon we'll need 13 - maybe even 14 given our percentage - wins to make the 8. Too many teams down the bottom of the ladder not troubling the W column.

So we probably need to go 8-3 to guarantee a spot. Still pretty doable with our draw.

Agreed - the atrocious form of the bottom 3 will mean at least 13 wins required

No more short people !
How many short people do we actually have? (Ie.sub 180cm)
Josh Daicos and Callum Brown are the only 2 I can think of and one of them won’t be on the list in 2023…

For whatever reason we always seem to lose to Hawthorn. Not overly confident this trend will change

It's a valid point. While both teams have new coaches & have changed the way they play, the Hawks have had us covered time & time again over the last 10 years. I think it will be a tough game to win & I'm sure they will have a bit of extra motivation for Shiel & Bruest's milestone games

Possibly none. I was just replying semi-facetiously to the 'mosquito fleet' reference.

Murley is, but he doesn't really count given he's a kid. Bianco and Elliott are 178, but I don't know how much longer Bianco will stick around and Elliott plays like someone 10cms taller.

Noble and Quaynor are both little but they're also lightning quick

History is a long term indicator.

Funny thing about history is it changes.

Noble and IQ are both around 180 from memory. Not quite midget territory but certainly not tall, you’re right.

Completely forgot about Bianco because he just hasn’t come on in the way I’d hoped, and Jaime may as well be 195cm with the way he plays and can jump 😂

Our team this week is one of the most skilful, balanced and exciting that we have named in years. For starters, virtually every player is a good kick of the footy!

It looks…….Hawthorn-like!

Graeme Wright’s influence clearly coming through.

What!!!!

Sidebottom, Crisp, Adams and DeGoey say hi

All the players you have named are relatively old. I’m talking about the kicking improvement from the turnover of players in recent times.

J Daicos
N Daicos
Ginnivan
McCreery
Quaynor
Cameron
Noble
Murphy
Henry

Are all relatively recent additions to the side and all are above-average kicks.

Collectively they are big improvements on C Brown, T Brown, Mayne, Greenwood, Phillips, Blair, the Irish rookies, etc, most of whom couldn’t reliably hit a target in general play more than 30m away and lacked the kicking penetration to score from set shots of more than 40m.

There is no doubt whatsoever that we are a better kicking side than we were 2-3 years ago.

All of the players named this week have kicking penetration. They can move the ball quickly from point A to point B. The refreshing of our squad has gotten rid of players who kick high floaters that take too long to reach the target and are easily intercepted. We are much more dangerous and high scoring because of it.

That kicking evolution is exactly what Hawthorn did under the leadership Clarko and Wright. It’s early days but we are already reaping rewards from changing emphasis to only recruiting players who are strong kicks of the footy.

Most if not all except for Naicos were there before Wright so how has he influenced this

Nobody considers Reef a forward because his best footy at NAB level was as a utility who rotated into the midfield

Was taken with the assessment he would become a big bodied full time mid

Which begs the question… why aren’t they playing him there in the VFL?

And I don’t buy a lack of a tank as the issue. Kids done enough training to play a good portion of a VFL game there

Grundy, Kreuger, Roughead, Madgen, Wilson, Dean, Johnson and Kelly.

Unfortunately with an injury list filled exclusively with tall options something has to give and for team balance at VFL level we've needed McInnes to provide us with a tall target up forward.

Eighth spot might be decided by which team is lucky enough to draw the most return games against the bottom 5-6 teams. I haven’t done the analysis but off the top of my head it’s only Essendon we play twice…and we lost that game to the Eagles….

This is why the hawthorn game is critical. We must win the must-wins!!!!
