Champion data stats. 21 HO. To advantage or just that he got a touch to the ball before the other Ruckman. He was inconsequential to the win today. I couldn’t remember when he actually gave the mids a clear advantage. And that’s his problem. Hasn’t learnt a thing while injured.

That he thinks wrestling is what we need him to be doing is very disconcerting.

But Fly made his intentions felt by bringing DeGoey straight in. He is a needed commodity. Grundy is not.

He won’t be playing agains the Dreamons and will struggle to displace the the other boys just yet. 3/4 more weeks in the VFL.

Hey what’s so bad about helping the VFL boys win a premiership. Nothing wrong with that.

Your view of Grundy is well known. I disagree. Nothing gained by regurgitating those discussions. His 1st game back after 15 rounds, blew the cobwebs out, will be better for the run.

Very important to our needs in the seniors. The other boys have managed to average around 10 per game.

If my maths serves me well. 10 is way way more than ZERO.

He remains as a backup dancer. Not needed until these boys fall or fail.

Cox is averaging 3.5 marks a game this year, Cameron 4.3, Grundy 2.5. The suggestion that Grundy averaging 1 mark a game less than Cox or 1.8 marks a game less than Cameron offsets the differential in ruck contests and clearances is just too biased to be considered relevant.

So many close wins surely indicate we have another gear. Question is whether we can sustain that for longer periods of time. Stats don't win finals - team spirit is far more significant.

Malthouse wanted the side to be so dominant they would extend his contract before the finals. Selfish though in many ways a brilliant coach.

We were getting smashed before he was out, been a problem for years. In any case whilst he gets clearances and inside 50's he does not take marks or kick goals.

You remind me of my wife. I have a drinking problem, she always brings home multiple bottles of wine. I think it is called enabling. Either that or you are not aroused by discussions unless you have someone to trade blows with. Love your posts, love your passion but could do without you stirring up the mud.

Is it only me that views the 2011 PF as one of the most intense finals I have seen the pies participate in? Malthouse cried after that match. It was intense, a physical and emotionally demanding game against a team at the beginnings of an era of dominance. The pies had nothing left the next week and Swannie was shot after sixteen millions lines post Brownlow. It is a disservice to both the hawks and the pies of that time to not acknowledge the quality of that match. I absolutely agree with the second half of your post. Malthouse coached for Malthouse, not the Pies.
You are right it was an intense final but I think the Hawks would have beaten the Cats none the less, The Pies were gone long before the final series and the match against the Cats in rd 22.I remember the Hawks had sown up the double chance and began resting players and we could have done this even earlier than them because after 16 rds we were 15w 1l and we won pre season also.

I wonder if Howe isn’t fit for this Friday (or if he needs a break) we could go into the game with …

Cameron
Cox
Grundy
Mihocek

With Mihocek playing back. IIRC he’s played cameos in the backline this year?
Yeah he has. Mihocek was drafted as a defender, too, so it's not stupid.

Doubt we would consider putting our best forward down back. Ruscoe came in for Howe last time and was not bad so you would think he comes in again if Howe is out. Confident we will not play all of Grundy, Cox and Cameron

I’m ok with McReery in his current role. He’s contributing towards us kicking goals and has in fact been a reason we’ve kicked many

Go back and watch the reply of Daicos’ first goal against Adelaide as an example. He basically created that goal single handedly without getting a single possession.
McCreery is the correct spelling. Attention to detail is lacking.

We sent Swanny for a mid season training block to the US, all I know is we aren’t going to win a premiership going at 110% for the rest of the year and finals serious. We will wilt before then, as is our current list profile. We don’t have the depth and physical stamina and strength to go with the best sides. We need to do something different otherwise it’s a wasted opportunity.

During his rehab from injury wasn't it? So you're suggesting we'll benefit from sending Wilson, Kreuger, MacInnes and Dean over to the US?

We were -2 or -3 centre clearances on average when Grundy was in the side which is a lot better than we're doing without him.

Development time is pretty much what Fly said 10 or so weeks ago , “ Brody is a work in progress “.! Not holding my breath on that one , his footy smarts are pretty limited

That was 2-3 games into the season with a new coaching panel and a new game plan, every player was a work in progress.

I look forward to Grundy coming back into the side and it's probably going go be Cox that makes way, let's be honest. But the big Cocko historically loves playing the Dees so watch out for him this week.

Also I actually missed the first half due to my own footy and almost had Johnson down as an out, particularly as a way for Henry to come in. Watched the first half replay just then and he was very solid.

Yes I think it coincided with injury, an extreme measure by normal standards, I assume they wouldn’t have given him the length of time to build his fitness base if we were on the cusp of finals. It reinforces my argument that you don’t always need to select your best players week in week out, and that at times it can make sense to give players extra time in order to recover, rest or build form.

I’m suggesting a select few could do with a spell to ensure they are cherry ripe for finals.

Honestly I’m starting to think Grundy might not even return before the Carlton game.

Just something McRae kept saying about making sure they give Grundy the best chance to come back and have an impact and play at his best immediately makes me think he’s gonna be out a while.

Because he didn’t do a great deal in the VFL and I’m not sure he comes back unless he truly dominates at VFL level

I don't know what you are going on about We have won ten on the trot. They have been tough , close games which we managed to win. Now, on the cusp of securing a top four position and greatly increasing our chances of a miracle season you advocate handing Melbourne the four points and losing our grip on the top four to rest players who do not appear to be in need of an emergency break.

We get a week off before the finals for a nice freshen up. Crazy talk. Players are managed from week to week. Do you think Fly is flogging the team at training?
