Two moves Longmire used to quell the Catters on Friday night were number one: to tag Patrick (Could we do the same using Crisp?) and then to play his mobile marking players (Hayward and Heeney) opposed to Tom Stewart to keep the Cats "defensive general" constantly under pressure. I'd seriously consider a player like Johnson or even Howe to take Stewart (Jamie Elliot could do so at a pinch). Kreuger would have had the job I'm sure if he'd been fit, but we simply cannot allow those two players to run amok. If we do.....look out.

Too much focus on negating Geelong's strengths. That's how we played in 20&21. Wasn't awesome to watch and thank goodness we've turned that corner.

I'm not suggesting that the coaches ignore tactics entirely but we should back the side to play the attacking style of football they have won games with this year.

Great learning experience coming up for the young lads. :) We're in a good situation as our senior players are fit and firing relatively speaking. Sidey has his mojo back (I was wrong about his demise), Howe is back to his leaping best, and Elliot is due for a bag.

Oh, and Bruzzy is back until he gets rubbed out again.

We're a Roughy away from being full strength.

P.S:
Out: Brown, Krueger.
In: Maynard, Cameron

P.S.S:
Glad T.Brown got a second chance to play last week. Players shouldn't live in fear of being dropped after a quiet game.

For me it’s starts in the middle v Pussies. Limit their use and it doesn’t matter if we have weaknesses like Noble & Madge down back

Start with Adams, JDG & Maynard in the middle and ravage them!

“ the Bull ring “

This has been my dream starting midfield for a long time. You can find my posts about it

That’s the ultimate “bull” midfield and I struggle to see any opposition get a clean centre clearance against them

Yeah they are all bulls , and all bulls charge and create havoc, you need one gazelle on the outside at least to take advantage of the bulls clearing the pathway ,you need a balance of both power and finesse , go with two of those 3 bulls at any one time at the centre bounce , strike a balance of having at least one silk gazelle , be it , Lipinski, J Daicos , Ginnivan , obviously the greatest of all , albeit in his twilight years Pendlebury, Elliott , N. Daicos sparingly , am confident Fly is buzzing over it .

Sidebottom has been great for the last two weeks, in the role he made his own for years, tirelessly running the length of the ground. Oppositions allowed this, possibly thinking his day had passed. The stronger sides will not, and he will be under significantly greater pressure when we face them. it is after he has faced a tag down and played a good game ( I don't expect dominant, because taggers have always troubled him) that I will concede a rebirth. At the very least though, he is again a player that coaches have to plan for.

Losing Kreuger after just one outing is nasty. He looked full of promise. He seems a structure changer for us. For me, Cox is the replacement, as he is also a structure changer in a different way. We are still in difficulties in defence, facing Geelong's tall attack, even with Maynard back.

Our attack has looked good, but that is on the back of good delivery, from the middle in particular. They don't look so frightening when the ball is coming to them from a pressured midfield. I thought Krueger might be the answer here, but we'll have to wait to find that out.

Maynard back has to be a positive.

OUT: T. Brown - Kreuger
IN: Maynard - Cameron

FB: Maynard - Howe - Quaynor
HB: N. Daicos - Moore - Pendlebury
C: J. Daicos - Adams - Sidebottom
HF: Elliott - Cameron - McCreery
FF: Henry - Mihocek - De Goey
FOLL: Grundy - Crisp - Lipinski
INT: Hoskin-Elliott - Noble - Madgen - Ginnivan

Reef might find his way to the emergency list with that game today, might need another big one to get into the 22 though. Hopefully no rubbish debut as the sub

My changes stay the same as mentioned last night:
In - Maynard
Out - Kreuger and T.Brown

Cameron stays in the 22, my sub would be Wilson or C.Brown

IMO the sub should be someone who can come on (usually late) and get under the guard of tired opposition players and do some damage in limited minutes. Cal Brown is anything but that type of player. I reckon McInnis or Poulter would be better suited.

This is it and probably our best balance to date. Don't think Kreuger is much of a loss considering the replacement. DC was quite good in the time he was on the ground and he's definitely a better backup ruck than Kreuger.

Need our wingers really our their game this week, need to be prepared to focus on being defensive when needed. Tuohy and Smith both love getting into space and streaming forward. They've both got a fair bit of height over our two default wingers too which we need to be careful about.

I don't think there's any reason why we can't win against Geelong. If you focus on their stars like Duncan and Danger. Sydney have a lot of hype but we haven't seen a great pub test at their ability. We lost to the Giants more because it was pre-season and were missing five star players.

Mihocek's presence up forward has been minimal. Could he return to the back?

IN: Maynard, McInnes and Wilson
OUT: Madgen, T. Brown and Kreuger.

I have a gut feeling McInnes may be sub. If not, AJ should debut.

In light of your assessment of Cars’ wingers’ attributes, perhaps this week we should play WHE as permanent wing and Sidey and/or JDaicos mostly forward?

Interesting to see AJ did not rate a mention on the Pies roundup.

It was written by the afl media on the AFL site. They prob only picked out a few players.
As a forward he wasnt damaging with an easy goal. But otherwise 15 disposals. Others prob were more impressive.

What's ur thoughts on Poulter lining up this week?

Had a good game... but where would you play him? They seem to have Sidey/Daicos/WHE and even Noble on the wings. Just a bloody hard spot. I feel like he would need to find a 2nd position to rotate through

Move Sidey forward permanently?

Yep, I was thinking the same thing. WHE on Smith definitely has merit, I think he's too tall and quick for Daicos or Sidey

I have no idea where to put this random thought as I dont have my own random thought thread so i will put it in here but it is really interesting to go through the results and stats of the weekends game. A lot of the teams that had the top disposal winners in the game got smashed, Crows, Port and GWS.
Not sure why Buckley changed our style after 2018 but I am so glad we no longer play that slow timid style.
Over using the ball just leads to turnovers closer to the opposition goal than your own.
Quick direct football always please, looking forward to Saturday night.

Root-a-galah is a very average player. If he were ours we would speak of him in Jessie White like terms.
It’s the other two we need focus on.

Makes Jesse White look like an A-grader but that doesn’t make him any less dangerous. Essentially in their side to throw his weight around giving their smalls opportunity, clunk an occasional mark, and give ruck relief so Bliclavs doesn’t have to. It’s a pretty basic role.

I’m not seeing it as interesting. Played as a KPF and had little impact playing there. Different story when he went into the ruck but that wasn’t the role he was in the team for.

I'd go with

IN: Maynard, Cameron
OUT: T. Brown, Krueger (inj)

I think this is a year to try things and find out about the list.

With that in mind i'd try Maynard on ball in the midfield rotation.

It may or may not work but I feel like trying different set-ups will arm us with information that will help us make list decisions later on.

He could be a gun on-ball but worst case is he goes back to defense and carry's on there.

I'm interested to see if anyone puts their hand up in the VFL today.

After watching the VFL i'd be interested in finding a spot for McInnes. I thought he was dangerous forward, good at the centre bounce, tackled to hurt and stood up when it was hottest. He'd be a handy player in the on-ball and forward rotations. Perhaps for WHE.
