Being realistic, we most likely win this game against Port as we've had their number for a few years now (barring the odd shock result), and they're firmly a mid table side. Selecting Douglas and Mackay doesn't change that, because selecting them over, lets say, Jones and Wilson/McPherson/take your pick of our kids won't actively harm us. The issue is however it adds so little to our squad that it isn't worth the future sacrifice to select them if you're not brain dead.

This week, our selectors were brain dead.

Lynch replaces Murphy and CEY replaces Greenwood. Dougie and Mackay are most likely to stay.

Murphy selection is 110% safe if the player coming in is Lynch, because we'd actively have to replace Murphy on top of that due to the desperate need for defensive pressure in a lineup.

There is only two people on our list who have a shot at that spot, and we see one of them as a midfielder (which I also see as so I'm a big fan of that).

CEY definitely replaces Greenwood when fit though. We showed that a few weeks ago.

Pyke is backing himself in for a shot at the flag

It's not about development

We have far too many morons at our club, you can carry a couple but once you get to a critical moron count it is all over.

We need a broom to come through off field, oh I yearn for an external review.

I’ve saud it before, I’ll say it again. Rob Chapman and Nigel Smart have already conducted a complete root and branch external review of the club. Brilliant document, you wouldn’t believe how great we are in all aspects football. It’s very comforting knowing we’ve had this work done by 2 highly respected and credentialed people and most importantly, nobody outside of the AFC knows anything about it. So our external review was conducted by exactly the persons with the requisite experience. No other relevant experience outside of the AFC.

Horrible selections, what are these guys smoking?
We can't win. Port might lose because they're ordinary, but that's our best hope.

Really, we can’t win?

Pyke has a record of 6-1 against Hinkley and will likely be 7-1 after Saturday.

See this kind of posting makes me smile.

We have a better team than we did last week by some margin and we are playing an inferior opponent.

The selection of Mackay, more so Douglas actually, is wrong..... but it shouldn't make a difference to the result. We've beaten them 7 of the last 8 times for a reason.

We do have a better team with JJ in, we will win it and the reason, Pyke is better than Hinkley.

I think you may be right that Mackay releases Smith, but he will play more on a wing with a little as an inside mid.

Think Milera will form part of the midfielders who rotate forward with Sloane, Greenwood & Brouch. Milera to particularly up his inside midfield time later in the game when players are tiring.

Just don't understand why we are not playing Jones instead of Douglas. Mystifying!

Port have their strongest team of the season on paper... so hope JJ pulls up ok, as we need his firepower to support Tex with Lynch out.
I don’t think he will play wing because Seeds and Atkins we have that covered, it’s a centre mid we are down on.

Smith can’t play forward, whereas Milera can. The only place I can see Smith is in the middle because surely Mackay is playing half back, because he couldn’t possibly justify a spot elsewhere.

Ahhh, yeh. Look mate, you had Dougie out and wouldn’t have thought Mackay in as a chance. I’ve been telling you it was a false dawn and as the pressure rose, we’d revert to type in a hurry. Welcome to that prediction coming to fruition. Pyke made some changes, but that doesn’t mean he was comfortable. This is him being comfortable, which with finals near certain for us, becomes very important. Then continuity. And with a run of winnable games, the likelihood of changes reduces. Sorry mate, sadly I’ve pegged this from the get go.

Lol you repeat the message so often you were bound to be right.

If you think Murphy goes for Lynch you need to quit drinking

Mackay doesn’t have pace any more than he has an elite leg. Both pure fantasy. 2-3 times per game Mackay finds himself in a position where he’s already at full speed and taking a handball from a contest where everyone else is mostly stationary. He looks fast relative to everyone else in the vicinity. Fact is that has never burst from a pack or run down an opponent for a tackle. He has recorded hundreds of pressure acts whilst not quite getting to averagely paced players though. The best bit though, is even with this perceived ‘pace’, Mackay maxes out at looping a ball to a contest or empty space 8 times out of 10.

Yeah but you have made it clear over the years your thoughts on Mackay. I think he was brought in for outside run balance Gibbs and Davis for Mackay and Milera.

Douglas is the head scratching one and if CEY was available he probably would ave had the chop. I am not sure what he plays as. I don’t see him as either an inside or outside midfielder.

Yep, and we will be shocked sitting here when yet another player wants out of the AFC at the end of the season.

Who can blame them with our selection culture, been the same for 10 plus years.

I can accept that. What is amusing is the same type of person instantaneously turning on that player. It’s always the player’s fault. Greedy, piss weak, mummy’s boy that’s ‘home sick’ or just no good at all. It’s never us, it simply can’t be.

feenix67 - are you meeting with Fagan?

Ask him where the strategic plan and vision for the AFC is?

When we do expect to win a flag?

I don't mean 'be competitive' - I don't mean 'make the 8 and then anything can happen' - I mean, when do we expect to develop and improve our list and our first 22, to the point that we believe we are a genuine chance of winning a flag.

Don’t bother, nothing resembling a difficult question will be asked by Feenix for fear of missing an invite next year. Oh wait, something was asked, but unfortunately his crew have been sworn to secrecy. But watch this space, something important will happen.

We usually use 3 wingmen with rotations. Last week was the 1st time for a while where we rotated a heap of players through - Douglas, Gooch, Sloane & Brouch. Given we got smashed on the outside, think we will revert to mainly a 3rd wingman. Will it be Smith or Mackay?

Wow.

Bang.

We did actually conduct an exhaustive search for someone to do the review but surprisingly the best people for the job were already right here. I believe the conclusion they came to post-review was "Best footy department in the league."

They did an internal review, which surprise surprise, found 99% of everything was hunky dory.

They won't open the doors to an external review because they'd likely be hit with some very harsh truths and keeping certain people in comfortable positions is the most important thing at the club.

I know - they were hammering the fact they were going to have a REVIEW, which everyone assumed would be a genuine, useful external review. Turned out, it was just to placate everyone, then, towards the end of the season, the rhetoric changed to 'an internal review' - which is a waste of time.

Has SPP had that bad a year that he cant get in the side ahead of Motlop ?

Motlop selection would be completely and utterly irrelevant to SPP chances at being selected.
