I'd be pretty disappointed if we brought Milera back off that performance, especially over Parnell.

Just too many moments where he looked devoid of confidence for me to feel particularly confident that it'd work out.
Parnell is going to be a really good player. The only weakness in his game is tackling and not breaking the tackle which is purely a strength thing. Another year of weights will sort this out. He more than makes up for it with his attacking ability and skills. It's just a matter of time until he comes into the team imo. I think he is the same height as Jayden Short at 178cm but is 4kgs lighter at 71kg so he probably needs to put on 4 or 5 kgs to get to a similar weight. He still only looks about 15 but he can play. He probably should be able to play midfield down the track.

I rewatched the sanfl game and while milera was a bit better than I first thought watching it live, defensively he wasn't that good. I don't think he is a defender so I'm not sure where you would play him? Perhaps up forward but I don't think he has shown enough to play AFL yet.

Adding Milera is code for ''we blame our young guys and we need experience ''
Nicks either
--- doesn't trust players like Hamill/Parnell/Worrell/Hinge
OR
--- he over-trusts them based on who-knows-what eg Gollant/Sholl/Brown/O'Brien/Hately/EH/Frampton, any of whom played badly enough vs. GWS to get dropped, but most won't be.
It's a mystery to me.
Rowe in for McHenry and Hinge in for Smith seem obvious choices, but Milera might be picked ahead of Hinge.

In addition, how about Strachan in for RoB? Worrell for Brown? Parnell for Sholl, who is starting to look like an Atkins-bodyclash-free-zone?
I can't see any way/s that makes the team weaker.

I'd like to know what Nicks and VB talk about when discussing our dysfunctional midfield eg
Nicks: Mate, our mids were crushed vs GWS
VB: Yeah, too bad Sloane is injured, eh?
Nicks: Yeah, too bad we've got no senior alternatives. Meh. Watcha gonna do? Thank Blighty (God) that Laird and Crouch get so much of the ball.
VB: Yeah, three bags full, sir.

With Carlton's depleted ruck department and their troublesome Twin Towers in the forward line, this week could be a perfect opportunity to try out the 2 Ruckman side that so many teams are now employing.

Play Strachan as Ruck/FWD and ROB as Ruck/loose man in defense. Task O'Brien with dropping into the hole at all possible times to curb the influence of McKay and Curnow, and see if Kieren get utilize his tapwork and substantially better forward craft to make us more dangerous in the forward half.

Nicks is always talking about encouraging players to 'use their weapons'. Well Nicksy, O'Brien's weapon is contested marking, and Strachan's weapon is tapwork and surprisingly good forward craft.

Rob was up against 2 rucks today who shared duties 50/50. He was stuffed. Problem though is that he is much better than Strachan. I’d be tempted to play both rucks and drop Himmelberg.

Smith out injured for Hinge.

Love McHenry and Murphy efforts but both need to go. In Schoenberg and Pedlar.

Sholl to sub
Id like to try this too, just not against Carlton who won't have their main ruck. Against most other teams I think it'd be worth trying.
I’d be more inclined to try it against Carlton, really exploit them

Just on this. Heard Bickley say that this is a ridiculous proposition in today’s game. Can’t play two full-time ruckman.

Thoughts folks?

Plenty of other teams do it with success. I would prefer we go with Strachan and Thilthorpe instead of ROB and Strachan. ROB's skills kill us and if he doesn't take contested marks what's he in the team for.

Makes you wonder, has Bickley never seen Gawn and Jackson play? And we just got crushed by Pruess and Flynn. We also got smashed in the Ruck in Essendon's only win this year with Phillips and Draper.

TBH, at this point I don't think we have a lot less to lose by trialling it. ROB thinking he can outwork an opposition ruckman over the course of a game is all well and good. But when the opposition have 2 Ruckman, he's not outrunning anyone!

AP.s. If the SANFL highlights are anything to go by then Tariek Newchurch is closing in on a debut!

Tariek and Rowe were really competing hard against one another. Rowe was playing more up the ground and even in the midfield at times. I think they could bring both in for McHenry and Murphy or McHenry and Rachele if they want to freshen him up. I would prefer McHenry and Murphy out and give Rachele another week. The only limitation in Newchurch's game is sometimes he needs to be a bit more assertive on the field but he provides plenty of X factor and speed. He also needs to tidy up some of his kicking for goal. He's seems the type of player that will probably go to another level at AFL.

would Newchurch be a good swap for Sholl this week?

I think there's something too that. I've wondered for a while if Tariek looks a bit lost without a strong power forward to anchor his game too. But the last couple weeks with FOG playing much more assertively and aggressively has seemingly unlocked him to play far more dangerously (at least in the clips i've seen).

Makes you wonder what he would look like at the feet of an true AFL key forward like Tex.

I follow a few crows fans who watch SANFL.

Some liked his work, some where so so.

But no one mentioned Milera that's for sure 🤣
Yeah so frustrating to hear one of our key coaches almost guaranteed Milera as in for this week and say his hardness at ball was a strength.
Whaaaat when has Milera ever ever been hard at the ball or at the opposition and ok played a bit better this week but Worrel Hinge Hamill and Parnell as defender replacements were much much better.
Just staggers me after that GWS disaster all that VB could offer was a broken down Milera as answer .
Where obvious Hinge not mentioned at all by VB and Hamill showed more and offer more short and long term.
Personally think Worrell into backlines releasing Dawson to wing would add a lot to overall strength and creativity to assist forward entries.
