Part of me thinks that once the finals start the hunger will return and most of our issues will be fixed defensively but **** does that last quarter piss me off. If they can look each other in the eyes and say they want this years flag as much as last year id be very surprised

We arent just having off nights like last year, we are dominating teams. kicking 5 goals up and then just patting ourselves on the back as they creep back into the game. No one can tell me that if we are 25 points up in the last in a granny now that they havent created a huge mental issue for themselves with this crap

That’s why I said they need to get around one another, do something to bring the bond back. They need to understand how good last year was and that this could be the same if they don’t balls it up. Goodwin is a great example, he was part of back to back flags.

Have a ****en pizza night, tell one another that accountability is what it’s about. I don’t know. There’s enough psychologists out there that clubs employ to sort this shit out. It’s all mental.

Nah I think they need to bring in some new players. Im kinda with the others here. Get Chandler/Laurie and some others in who are desperate for a flag. Drop someone who seems undroppable. Rivers is the only one who has been dropped from last years best 22. Everyone else has been an injury replacement who has made way again.

Who do we drop? It’s a bit late in the year for those guys to acclimatise? Or maybe I am reading it wrong.

Didn't hurt Bowey last year.

Spargo is one I think we need to look. 6 goals in 18 games, hasn't had a goal assist in 9 games.

Goalless in our losses and has had less than 16 disposals in every game but 3. Not even really sure what he's adding at this moment and im a fan of his. Can't play anywhere else on the ground either. Think he's a bit of a nothing player we could upgrade.

I really like him when he is playing his best. Those stats aren’t good though. He is a bit reliant on big forwards crashing packs and bringing it down, so that doesn’t help.

Honestly I don’t know, I just think these blokes need to realise what’s on the line here, irrespective of who they are. We might not get another go at it, so I think capitalising this year is the absolute priority.

Gaz suggested playing Petty forward this week, which a few of us have also suggested occasionally. I doubt Goody will risk our defence to bolster our forward line, but Gaz correctly stated Petty hits marking contests a lot harder than Brown and Weid which makes life so much easier for small forwards, who know there will at least be a ball brought to ground.

I'd actually be up for it I think, especially with Lever back.

Think it's time for Petty to play forward and for Turner or Tomlinson to take his spot alongside Lever and May.

EDIT: Beaten to it above. We just need to shake something up, team is looking stale and out of ideas. Also for debuting Laurie, we couldn't win a ground ball in our front half in the 2nd half.

Unchanged.

You're robbing Peter to play Paul aren't you. I think Petty is an outstanding defender and thinks he doesn't get enough credit externally when all the talk is about Lever and May.

But it could be the last roll of the dice we need to consider before finals because right now, the tall forward options this year hasn't worked and Petty's contested marking is elite imo.

Problem is Goody is too stubborn in trying anything new this year.

How could you possibly crumb to Weid and Brown? Basically have to guess if it's coming to the front or they are running straight under it and it gets out the back.

At this point I'm fine with Petty going forward. Chuck Weid back.

Na, **** weid off, play Turner.

Completely agree, we need a shake up. One thing we can bank on with Chandler is he will go flying into everything and Laurie deserves a run.

Geez we miss T-Mac, his loss has had a bigger impact then we all think. Just miss his hit up target.

Would be good if Weid could play that role as a high half forward and make those contests down the line.

TMac finally was hitting form then got injured, pretty frustrating as he always plays terribly coming back from injury so if he plays this year he won’t do much.

Wow.. thats damning.

Big spargo fan, though he hasn't played what I'd call a good game since Brisbane. And even that was only 1 goal and 13 touches (3 assists)

Definitely would be in favour of Laurie or chandler coming in.

I love ANB and Spargo but **** me they limit us. If Olivers struggling in the middle we cant even move him because ANB and Spargo cant play any other position. Its extremely easy to plan for us an exploit us because nothing ever changes. Salem and Rivers never move up, Spargo and ANB never move back. We need someone who can play midfield at a good level but can go forward and snag 2-3 goals sometimes aswell

Nek Minnit Tabener and Lobb both kick 4+
Not beyond the realms of possibility.

JUH kicking 5, mihocek 4, Logan McDonald and Sam Reid 3 each. Even against freo lobb and Taberner combined for 5.2

We negated Brisbane and Geelong talls well, however.

That said, over the past 3 games we've given up inside 50s of 66 vs Geelong, 55 vs Port and 59 vs bulldogs, losing the count in all 3 games.

Yeah it's definitely "system" based.

Each week its like we rely on 3 goals to fritsch, hope pickett jags a couple, hope that we get 1 each from gawn and Jackson, petracca get 1 and brown/weid kick 1 or 2.. the difference between us kicking 14 goals or 10 usually comes from spargo, ANB and harmes.

ANB has 5 goals for the year, Spargo 6 and harmes 12. Of those 23 combined goals, 8 have come since round 9. It's no coincidence that bar the weekend and Brisbane games, we've struggled to kick winning scores throughout that time.

If there is a player who can do that role you're asking more, it's probably harmes. I feel like he's going OK, but has a lot more to give. Put simply, ANB and Spargo need to up their output significantly for us to win finals.
