Charity match for the Queensland Floods

interesting idea, doubt it will get up. The NAB cup idea of gate receipts/player payments being donated from various games is a more realistic. Specifically running a game the night before the NAB cup GF ignores the fact that no-one will know who will actually be playing until the week before so there's no way of releasing players etc to train with a squad.
I'd leave a specific charity game to warnie and the cricketers and instead run either a NAB cup round special or even Round #1 in the AFL as a special flood relief round which would gain more interest and dollars.
if the game went ahead they have two options:
Option 1 - Players from the NAB Cup GF teams won't be eligible for the charity game. Still plenty of players to choose from.
Option 2 - Play the game on the week off between the NAB Cup GF & Round 1

Would be a far far better charity than that mainwairing game - maybe replace the charity for that and the name to help the flood (and now fire) victims in WA and Australia - Telethon already made about $9mil or something in one weekend

Letting team partisanship affect charity...

Absolutely pathetic.

Would be nice to see some money heading up to Carnarvon, where plenty of people lost their homes and possessions to flood waters recently.

Mate, I understand where you are coming from, in 2009 when Victoria went through the unimaginable bushfire crisis, North Queenalnd was under water. Not much was done in respect to raising funds for North Queensland, however I believe that the North Queenslanders understood exactly why.

The loss of proeprty and life in the Queensland floods in 2011 is far greater than anyone could imagine, repair bills topping 5 billion dollars is something I simply can not even begin to fathom. Try picturing water covering land from Melbourne to Sydney and that is what you pretty much have her, plus more in SEQ:eek:

Like most natural disasters, it is the strength of Australians as a whole which is incredible. I heard on local Qld radio this morning an interview with a spokesperson from a Kinglake Community Radio station who had raised $7000 or more for the flood appeal. Makes you proud to be an Aussie imo:thumbsu:

I hope those in WA are given help where needed, but also I completely understand why the focus is on the plight of those around me currently.

Not at all. I just don't believe, that given the circumstance of his death, the game should be heralded as the Chris Mainwairing All Stars Game.

If he had died from a total accident like a car crash or something, then yeah sure I might go - but the bottom line is he died (supposedly) of an OD

I'd be the same if it was a Freo player
