Depending on his knee, any range will suit Charlie better.

We're going to be in a similar situation we were in before soon, in which we're being forced to question who plays deep and who goes for a run around the ground. The answer is both, but not at the same time; play around with it, manipulate the matchups and try and get one loose or isolated deep with a desirable matchup.

Use the fact that both of them are excellent marks on the lead or contested, both are troublesome for defenders in different ways, and that Harry now has full match roaming fitness and Charlie's from a family of long distance runners.

It's akin to having two Nick Riewoldts. Use the fact that they're both fast and fit, and spread tall defenders.

One of the footy shows did some good analysis of the Geelong forward line earlier this season when they had all three of Hawkins Cameron and Rohan in their forward 50 - each stayed away from each other and had their own lanes in which they led to and offered a target. The cats midfielders would see each of the three leads and quickly decide which to go for. It was working well. Other teams couldn’t create packs or double team as effectively.

I don’t know if we can play both SOS and McGovern (when both are fit) but each of them are actually pretty good kicks into the forward 50. I see them better suited to being outside the 50 than Charlie and Harry. I think Honey or Owies (or both even) be the additional targets inside 50 to run their opposition defences ragged. We have a lot of talent in our forward half - just needs structure and the mids lowering their eyes when they kick it into the 50.

If he kicks 6 on his return, and again the following week how long do we think Carlton hold off AFL selection...?

His performance over the first few weeks is largely irrelevant.

They’ll have a plan in place to get him back to full match fitness and it’s important they stick to it.

10000% - this is exactly how it works. Had we been pressing for finals (as in, a genuine chance) then maybe they'd rush him, but speaking to my S&C friend - the GPS and how the player feels afterward say much more than the performance itself

Not to be cynical but if we lose to either Collingwood or North over the next two weeks the Club will be keen to distract us with Charlie VFL highlights and even selection by the Saints game in Round 20

Depends how many minutes he's playing. If the second game is 100% of his normal load then he could play for Carlton the next week. If only 75% then he will be another week in reserves.

His minutes is more important than form.

As others have said, it's all about fitness. Once they think he's fit enough to get through an AFL match, he plays AFL. VFL form won't matter.

Just hope that they aren't in any hurry to bring him back into the seniors until he's 100% ready to go. I don't care if he comes back for the last game of the season, as long as he's fit and lining up for us in Round 1, 2022.

Let’s wait till after the bye 2022 we don’t want to rush him back …

Are you insane?

We can't commit to that now! What if we're bottom 6 again at that stage? It would be a huge risk to try and get him through half a season, and if we're not making finals it's just not worth it.

Wrap him in cotton wool until we make a grand final. Then, and only then, can he be the sub.
