Chris Judd - Greatest player of the 21st Century (so far)

Swan will be considered better than both Ablett and Judd by the end of his career.

How exactly is it useless? It's a far better indicator than raw numbers given the discrepencies.

In 2004 Richmond had the most disposal average of 315. In 2007 Sydney had the least with 324. It's patently obvious there was a shift in how teams played.

Have you considered that the cats, including Gary, helped pioneer that shift, and that the increase in possessions was a more effective style, and hence on average a cat 07 was better than an eagle 04? Clearly that would make % of team possessions useless when one style is clearly better than another.

You know I love Buddy; but he's far too inconsistent to surpass Ablett in the forseeable future.

19 possessions a game and 82 goals from 22 games this year? That is the most number of possessions per game since for a Coleman medalist since Leigh Matthews in the mid 70s.

Also how many players have averaged 19 touches a game and kicked 80 goals in a year? I'm guessing maybe 2 or 3 in the entire VFL/AFL history?

3 x All Australian by 24, as well as 2 x Coleman medals.

What more do you want? You want him to leap tall buildings in a single leap ;):p

His seasons and stats are begginning to stack up with the greatest CHFs to ever play the game.

Far, far from incosistent.

EDIT: His finals performances are also scary good for a KPF in the modern game. He is averaging 3.8 goals a game in all finals he has played ( including bags of 7 and 8 ), compared to his home and away average of 3.0 per game.

Also most free kicks against for the last 5 years. Not to mention a pretty average goal/behind ratio. Fix those two problems and you've got a chance, same with judd and his kicking in general.

Exactly right. I saw that game against Collingwood, he spent all day kicking the ball down Collingwood players' throats, and he got 3 votes for it!!!

Easily the most over-rated player I've seen, and judging from the crap written about him, and way commentators drool each time he appears on the screen, the most over-rated in the history of the game.

People were purporting him as the greatest player of all time, and he wasn't even the best player at West Coast at the time. Makes you sick.

Well said. Totally agree.

He's a great player, and I've seen him play some magnificent games (first game against Sydney this season for example). But you're completely correct, the endless hype and gushing bullshit for this guy is something I've never seen before for anyone. His mistakes are simply ignored, if he emerges from a pack with the ball (something he is legitimately incredible at) they simply don't acknowledge what he does with the ball half the time.

Best player in the game? Laughable. Of all time, or even under consideration? Utterly insane.

Is there a single person in this thread besides a Carlton supporter that thinks Judd is better than Ablett? It is obvious who the better player is. This isn't 2006 Carlton fans

Time for your nap young Carlton Vegemite.

I think he was just trying to make a point of how silly he thinks this thread and all the Judd bashing is.

I can understand his frustration, as no matter how good Judd is, he just can't win the full respect of the football community unlike Buddy & Ablett.

Yes there is.
I was happy to suggest that Ablett may well be the better player, but did add that history will remember Judd more favourably.
It just seems obvious to me, but some just can't see past the here and now.

Lol, Yeeeees. That's why Judd was named MVP. Because the Football community doesn't rate him. lmao this thread is a laugh.

He has the respect of the football community, you just think Ablett is better.

Good for you guys, I couldn't really give a crap what you intelligent folk think.

But, have a spade for being interested in the great man :spade:

Not going to bother reading the thread given the first page had those with an agenda lined up in force (edit: oops they're still here lol). IMO Judd is the best player of the 21st century so far. Since Judd did his groins in 07', Ablett has been better in all seasons, bar this one. Prior to that though - even when alright in 07' - it was all Judd and by quite some distance too. Ablett has never put that much space between the two of them.

Overall it's Judd for mine up to this point, but hopefully there's more than a few seasons left of both these champs.

**** it's nothing to do with the fact Ablett went to the midfield in 07 does it ?

Course he isnt.
Best clearance midfielder though ?....possibly along with Ablett.
Best rover ?..possibly/debatable along with Ablett.

Seems silly to be pretending such a narrow talent base could ever be thought of as the best "footballer" or "player". Thats just kiddie and media knob polishing. The best footballers are generally the guys that are v good kicks, v good marks, kick goals and could play more than just one position...at the very least.

Yeah that statement didn't sound right re-reading it.

To re-phrase, in order to surpass Ablett as a player he would need to put figures up that rival some of the great goal kicking forward in the game (and he isn't far off), or move into the wing / centre and add some considerable strings to his bow.
