Christian Petracca - Boy, Oh Boy, Wowee

Saints fans are the worst on BF and in general. Ever met any ? Horrible people.

They've got their noses out of joint, because they delusionally think they have the best kids in the competition. In reality, a group of plus 30's are saving them from embarrassment. They'll be going back down again before they go up. Wins over Carlton are fool's gold for this mob.

They had their time at the top in the last 5 years. Have not even rebuilt yet.

Petracca looks like being a gun midfielder but he's still only shown glimpses of his talent so far like most young players, he has a long way to go yet.

McCartin has also shown signs of being a gun key forward and whilst I'd love to have Petracca I'm not disappointed we took McCartin instead.

Good key forwards are also harder to find than good midfielders.

Yet we just smashed Carlton missing 3 of those plus 30s in Riewoldt, Fisher and Dempster so there goes that argument.

It appears that Melbourne supporters have their noses out of joint because Melbourne haven't been able to beat St Kilda for 10 years despite starting their rebuild well before us.

Such garbage.
If you wanted to just talk about Petracca you should've, not imply that we made a mistake drafting Paddy.
How did I imply you made a mistake? And why would I think that if I think he's a good player? That chip on your shoulder, to quote Spud Frawley, is a railway sleeper. What an incredibly ridiculous assumption. I like McCartin. By mentioning him doesn't mean I hate him. FFS.

Joey the only oldy againts the Blue's.

Younger player wise none of McCartin, Longer, Billings, Sinclair, Lonie, Goddard, Carlisle or Freeman were playing against the Blues. So plenty of scope for still adding younger players to our team the next time we play the Dees and for 2017 and beyond.

PS: I would have piked Petracca too at the time. But I am not unhappy with McCartin. Rebuilding is going along quite well.

For all the Saints supporters you should be happy you got McCartin. He looks like a great long term proposition. Equally I'm sure Melbourne are happy with Petracca, whose game yesterday showed a glimpse of what he could become.

God forbid the top two picks in a draft could both be good players....

Haven't seen the match but I too wanted to nab petracca with pick 1 prior to the draft. He looked like a special player. Paddy's talent wasn't as obvious in the highlights. But after watching paddy this year (and last) I get why we took him at number 1. He just seems to have that footy brain. More than anything he reads the flight of the ball as well as anyone, he's also big (wide) and has soft sticky hands, and strangely enough his hands seem to be even stickier at the exact moment he's scattering players beneath him.

Will Petracca be the better overall player? Maybe. Seems like that's the general consensus so far - but personally after watching Roo run around for the past 17 years, and now getting to watch Paddy develop, there's just something so special and exciting about watching big key position forwards that you don't quite get from midfielders, so even if paddy doesn't have as impressive a career as petracca, I approve of our decision to draft him.

The thing is, Melbourne already has Hogan, so in that case I would have wanted tracca over paddy if I was a melb supporter. I definitely hope this year's first rounder is used on a mid from a saints perspective.

At the same time, Imagine Hogan and Paddy lining up in the same 50. Think it was a case of everyone wins.

What on earth were St. Kilda thinking not selecting him, especially when they already have Bruce and Membrey.
Well because we need 2 key forwards and only Bruce is a key tall and Nick Riewoldt is not getting any younger.

Membery is our 3rd tall.

Picking McCartin was the correct and intelligent move for St Kilda and one that is thinking 10 years down the line.

Meh - 20 possessions, 3 marks 1 tackle and 1 goal - all against a very very very average Collingwood

Have to laugh at some fanboys shooting their load over a spin away from that man-beast Sinclair and an uncontested mark which preceded a standard 40 metre pass to an unmarked Gawn in a virtually empty forwardline.

There is no doubt that he will be a good player but there are plenty of other young players that are impacting games to the same degree or more so

Unfortunately for the Dees they are likely to lose Hogan at the end of the year and Petracca might go the same way down the track if his family's love for Collingwood is anything to go by - just get the feeling that the kid is so full of himself he will soon be chasing the big bucks ........... if you know what I mean
Couldn't read this without having a chuckle

Trac reminds me of Dustin Martin and for a while I've watched the Tigers jealously to see what Dusty can do, Trac is so skilled and after 11 games he will get better, takes the pressure off the likes of Hogan and Watts for game breakers. I'm pretty sure I heard he was a Dees supporter I could be wrong.

Was a hardcore pies supporter

Its a solid reflection on what each team needed as well. Worked out for both parties no doubt, with Saints needing a KPF and Melbourne needing a gun midfielder who is also strong up forward.

He was a pies supporter but his girlfriend is a dees supporter and her Dad is a 10 year member, goes to every game.
