Welcome to the Ask an Atheist thread II.

Previous part:

Standard board rules apply.

Nature will take care of overpopulation, that's how evolution works...nature is a great equalizer.

Fertility rates are dropping alarmingly. In Japan there's more 84 year olds than 1 year olds. Same in Europe, Korea and even sperm count has dropped by 50% worldwide. Even in India the most populous nation of earth, it has dropped alarmingly. No magic man needed.

Population will peak and star to go down, some brilliant scientists predicted this decades ago. This is what the guys in white jackets predicted 40 years ago and it's coming true.

You really need to look outside of your fairy tales.
Wishful thinking, but in our lifetimes, we may be so fortunate. I doubt it's sustainable over our future generations.
You need to read about sustainability.

I teach sustainability and population studies at senior school level. By about 2100, the global population will peak at about 10-11 billion and then begin to fall.

Here's something relatively simple to explain why.

And another from about ten years ago.

Evolution? It's capitalism and the invention of birth control that has driven down fertility rates.

And it didn't take brilliant scientists to predict population falls. Very much rational but completely normal intelligence data analysts predicted it. It's not hard to put fertility and mortality rate data into a spreadsheet.

Ah yes, how dare we, ask for evidence! silly us...just let us believe in Allah, Krishna, Thor, Jesus and every other weirdo claims you people make.

Yeah apologies

The world is just fine, SOME people have messed up this world. I have faith in humanity and i don't have a negative approach of life. I love every moment of my life, i love my family, friends, my dog, those who mean to me and help people unconditionally, maybe you should start to love too.

We are living in the most peaceful period in human history. So moving away from religion has helped us and it wasn't for religious nations like Israel/palestine/russia, middle east and America, we would be a lot more peaceful.

Your approach to life really sucks, brighten up...the world is beautiful. No wonder you guys are hungry for the afterlife cookie...you forget to live, trying to live for false promises.
You loving your life is great, but if that's what you cling to, and things go awry, of which you have ZERO control, what then?
Great if you have that same peace. The rampant bushfires worldwide, the countries at war around the world, the capacity for annihilation at present- it's not that peaceful.
Belief in God makes sense of all this, and is not negative.

But overall, life has never been better for a vast majority of humanity.
Belief in God makes sense of all this,

No it doesn't.

I'm with Dubs on this one. Their are many positive indexes to draw heart from, but the big picture is the world is hurtling toward climate catastrophe.

Not to mention it's a complete miracle we haven't all been incinerated in a nuclear weapons accident, and probably only a matter of time before one morning, we all don't wake up. The near misses we've had just from the (relatively) technologically sophisticated, safety-minded arsenals of developed nations are terrifying enough. God (LOL) knows how many times Pakistan, or Iran or N Korea have almost accidentally blown the whole world up.

Read Raina MacIntyre's recent "Dark Winter" and you'll reach pretty much the same conclusion about bioweapons accidents.

And that's just the innocent accidents.

Such is life, shit happens. I have control over many things, nature has control over the rest. I don't waste my time thinking about stuff i have no control over and so shouldn't you.

I have seen so much death, that i actually feel comfortable now thinking, everyone dies. It's natural. Death, disease, decay, it's the way of evolution. Why would humans be any different, afterall we are also a part of nature.

Great if you have that same peace.

You should try, instead of calling yourself terrible names and living life thinking you are a horrible person. You said 'i don't lose anything'. Actually you lose everything that we 'know' for reals, your one and only life, but ok if that's how you wish to live.

The rampant bushfires worldwide, the countries at war around the world, the capacity for annihilation at present- it's not that peaceful.
Natural calamities happen, all the time. Less so right now cause we have technology to track. Your idea of peace if everlasting calmness and universal happiness is never going to happen. Still we have living in the most peaceful period in human history..if you eliminated those ultra religious nations it will be even better.

What a shit world view.

Belief in God makes sense of all this, and is not negative.
Yeah exactly, religion is a coping material due to inevitability of death and despair

There is literally nothing more terrifying than an eternity in the dark abyss of nothing.

Originally, religion was invented to explain natural phenomena that couldn't be explained yet by science. (like even now, you cling to stuff like afterlife , which gives you comfort)

"Follow me and you will never die, don't follow me and you will burn in a lake of fire for all eternity." This is nothing but a scare tactic instilled in young kids who don't yet have the intellectual capacity to evaluate their surroundings.

Having said that, still some religions are better than the others. Abrahamic ones are literally man made inventions which did a lot of harm as a whole. You don't see it cause you're a heathen, but history is your friend.

It's not as simple. Scientists predicted population will stop growing by 2100 and will peak at 11 billion. evolution doesn't mean physical evolution, it also means how we evolve as a society , this is why i said nature, which includes lifestyle too.

The socioeconomic, geopolitical and environmental ramifications of this change are considerable and invite a multidisciplinary consideration of the underlying mechanisms. In the short-term, socioeconomic factors, particularly urbanization and delayed childbearing are powerful drivers of reduced fertility.

You need to read about sustainability.
Wishful thinking? it's happening as i speak. I live in Europe where population has fallen off the cliff. I live in Bulgaria where when i first came population was around 8 million, right now about 6.5m.

Sustainability is important, this is why i have sustainable water development projects in Africa. Funny you try to teach me what i actually do for a living. Sustainability is absolutely possible if corrupt governments stop filling their pockets. I have a new project where you can desalinate water just by using sunlight, at a fraction of the cost of sea-water desalination. It's there to be done, but as i mentioned in one of my previous post, my Rwanda project didn't take off due to religion (Bible believers).

You really need to STOP having a negative outlook on life. How do you live your life thinking life sucks? Life is beautiful and live it to the full, without harming anyone...

Famine morality is literally at it's all time low.

Interesting that you accept that the universe was created and not observed.
This is fun
Nope, that’s you apocalyptic crew.
The universe most probably always was in one form or another.
There are most probably infinite universes that require no desert tribe myths for their existence.
The miracle is that you are here to observe it.
It’s fun to learn the knowledge, it’s not so fun listening to superstitious nonsense like your posting!

But he knows YWH (who is also Jesus, but not quite) created the whole thing cause the book told him so.

The book has been wrong on millions of occasions but this one is true, believe me.

It’s a bit like tuning into Here’s Humphrey back in the day expecting him to talk…

perhaps no one would risk it on purpose, but one almost started on accident in 1983

I still think nuclear warfare is unlikely, in our lifetime atleast.

Wow, that dates you! (And me!)
I have a cousin (now in his 40’s) who was obsessed with Humphrey. We were staying at another relative’s place for the holidays and my Uncle didn’t want the little kids to come with us to work horses early the next morning at the race track. So he told them that they better stay home because Humphrey was going to talk on TV the next day. Still makes me laugh 40 years later

Ahh Yahweh the storm god, son of El.
Shagged his sister with Baal didn’t he?
And advised Moses to take sex slaves and incest being ok too. YWH had many talents, one of them being Canaanite women being prepared for the enjoyment of his chosen people.

Afterall the Christian story means we are all a product of incest anyway.

Gotta love these Xtians lecturing us about morality.

P.S Wait in this case this wasn't Jesus, it was YWH, who is also Jesus, except not on these occasions..did i play it right Vdubs ?

“But take the young girls that have never known a man…”
Now we all know they weren’t talking about sandwich making don’t we?🤷‍♂️
