Can someone explain how the info gets outside to the live reporters? I thought those in court weren’t allowed any electronic equipment to relay information to those outside. Or am I wrong?
I sat in a row of all legals that used their phones at some stage and then when a girl from the public in front of me used hers she got told off.

My initial feelings on the verdict, and the good and bad ramifications of it, in regards to the victims families don't differ from what everyone else is feeling at the moment except when it comes to pleading with the psychopath to reveal were SS is ( yes i believe he as born with APD - hence the pre-sentencing psyche report ordered). I say this because psychopaths have no remorse, none at all. If he were to say where she is it would not be out of guilt or remorse but rather out of personal gain. Appealing to him to reveal where SS is is standard practice but i would not expect him to react to it in any significant way, maybe he would shake his head but i wouldn't expect much more than that from him.

Having said that i would put more energy into supporting and helping people like FeelingThroaty who are analysing and searching for more probable areas for a dump site. Even a near hit could be enough to force his hand into revealing where SS is through fear of losing that last bit of thrill/power he is holding on to. Whilst most found closure, this case isn't over until SS is found.

Well done to the honest cops who never gave up, and to those who will continue the investigation into the one unresolved part of these crimes but now it's time to expose the corrupt cops that hindered and derailed this investigation, making the honest cops job that much harder.........Meanwhile we wait for the appeal...

My best moment from going in today was not only the guilty outcome but when Barbagallo walked out onto the outside steps she got a well deserved round of applause from all the crowd.
I also heard that Liam Bartlett is doing a 60 minutes segment Sunday night that he’s waiting for a court order to release some info.
Premier Mark McGowen has just asked for Edwards to disclose where Sarah is for her family sake during his press conference as well.

I'm not holding my breath but would not be surprised if he does disclose her where abouts. The next few weeks are going to be very interesting with lots of new and with held info coming out.

Is any one else really surprised at how condensed and so, quick Hall was with his verdict this morning? I know there is a 600 odd page explanation, but I really expected his court address this morning to be much longer. It was almost over so fast that if you walked away for a moment or blinked it would have been over. I think it just goes to show Hall is very precise in his court. He was chosen for this probably for that reason??

I think they do verdicts at 9:15 as they expect to use the courtroom for the next trial at 10am.

At the real supreme court there was an ongoing trial in the courtroom so Hall had to get it over with quick to allow it to be handed back.

So is it usual for verdicts to be made so quickly, as before most people were suggesting it was foing to take hours?

Also take into consideration, it's usually a jury trial. The court sits whenever the jury reaches a verdict. In this cases they just keep the courtroom booked as juries usually come back in a day.

I voted for need more info as I did and still feel the trial only scratched the surface. BUT as we now know Hall had access to quite a bit of 'extra' info that we, the public did not have access to.

Not really. He may have had access to extra information, perhaps the entire prosecution (paginated) brief? But he is required by law to only consider what is put in evidence before him in court.

If you read the written judgement it will only deal with the evidence and will explain decisions based only on that evidence.

The pressure on her would have been immense. She would have seen A LOT more than was presented in court, and her sense of personal responsibility to get justice for the families would have been considerable. She also took on a lot more of the responsibility for court matters than I expected - she barely delegated anything. In the end it really was all on her. She thoroughly deserved that applause.

Verdicts on the evidence

102 The verdicts must be based only on the evidence adduced in this trial. That means the testimony of the witnesses and the exhibits that have been tendered. I have relied only on that evidence. I have not engaged in any speculation or guessing. Iam conscious that with the lapse of time some evidence is no longer available or witnesses' memories have faded, however I have not been distracted by wondering about what other evidence might have shown if it was available. I have focused only on the evidence that is available and it is on that evidence that I have decided the case.

103 Whilst I have carefully considered submissions made to me by counsel representing the State and the accused, Iam conscious that their submissions are not evidence. Whilst it is proper to take into account such submissions, ultimately it is a matter for me what conclusions can be drawn from the evidence.

But also consider the efforts of Paul Yovich. If you compare the lineups, it was the prosecution in a 4-3-4 formation vs the defence 2-2-3. Plus the defence second line were very junior lawyers. He did have it relatively easy as he had no burden of proof, but I did see at times he did his duty as an officer of the court and helped get Carmel out of the odd pickle.

Lineups did change though, especially during covid, when the prosecution went to a 2-2-2 formation and defence to 2-2-1. At other times it was prosecution 2-3-3 and defence 2-1-2

No way he is gonna give up the whereabouts of SS.

This flog is like Charles Manson in the fact he still believes, HE ACTUALLY BELIEVES he is innocent. He has convinced himself of this because he has an “eye for an eye” mentality against creatures he thinks have wronged him.

Also the swine sees it as his last great act of defiance and a big middle finger to law, WA police, her families and the public to keep her a secret. He hates women & people in general, so it will be in his mind that he won with that last victory.

This dog will revel in the fact that he knows where she is but no one else does and will simply love watching them scramble around for years bartering him with offers to get the truth. Complete narcissist.

All of this takes me back to being stones in the late 90s having deep debates about the theories we all had about who the killer was. Kind of sad that it's over really.

Also, **** all those grief tourists that were there today.

Absolutely no disrespect meant to Paul Yovich. He did a thorough job with what he had and ensured Edwards got an excellent defence. As the trial unfolded it became clear to me that there wasn’t a heck of a lot he could do to actually dispute the evidence for Ciara and Jane, and the evidence regarding Sarah was limited even without his input. I always felt the most important part of his role was disputing the admissibility of evidence prior to the trial, in which he was successful (although I don’t think there was much chance of it being admissible you still need someone to make the arguments). And I think the other important part of his role will be sentencing.

I’m also mindful of the fact that it can’t have been easy to defend one of the most hated people in WA. His role was important.

A lengthy presser is being streamed in here, if you get in on one of your free five clicks leave it open and it will update.

It's the WA Police Commissioner's CK press conference. Starting soon.

I find this surprising. Majority of people are thinking it and would like to ask him the same thing as they think he is guilty as sin on Spiers, however as the verdict has came back not guilty, I'm surprised that someone like the Premier would actually go this far and make a statement like this.
