Touchy are we? I'm just one poster correctly pointing out you're a bunch of whingers and you're having a go at an entire state?
Not touch at all pole smoker. You obviously fail to spot the irony in your previous post

I find it hard to believe that Clarkson could contact the CEO of the AFL and be granted a 7am meeting on a Monday morning to air grievances about umpiring. If this has happened, surely the AFL have some major explaining to do.

Just like Sheedy and Roos when they were coaching, the Vic footy media are in awe of Clarkson and treat anything he says as if he’s just revealed the theory of relativity. It’s almost mandatory for whenever Clarkson does a media interview now that the media types will be drooling over what an insightful and fascinating interview it was.

And I suspect Clarkson is aware of this and knows that excuse-driven whinges about what’s gone wrong with the game or how badly its being umpired will be portrayed as pertinent observations on the state of the game.
This.
His record speaks for itself...
But FMD his hypocrisy on opposition teams 'supposed' dodgy tatics/ bending of the rules is utterly breathtaking to say the very least the least

Huh
How would the AFl know if Clarkson isnt about to tell them he's been rooting an 18yo who is now suing Hawthorn ?
A 7am Monday brekky meeting ?
Anyone at the AFl would be thinking two things...
1. Avocado with my croissant ?
2. WTF has Clarko done !! Might be a shit of a day coming up.

Well, naturally someone as angry as yourself would try see it that way. Evidently the truth brings out the salt in supporters like yourself.
Wow you are bad at this banter thing.

I'm actually a really happy and generally satisfied person. Thanks for your concern though.

Why? Because you're actually being wound up?

I'm sure you are, that's why you need to clarify it to me. Why else would you do that unless you're "really happy" and "generally satisfied"?

Coaches talk to Gil all the time. Clarko specifically talks to Gil all the time.

Why wouldnt the most senior people at clubs talk to the most senior people at the AFL?

Scott and Longmire both rightly condemning Clarko for his narcisstic behaviour in respect to his approach to Gill. His coaching successes really have given him an enormous ego, and the league have fuelled it through pandering to him and his suggestions.

Alright. You got me. I'm filled with impotent rage and I'm desperate to impress you.

What pearls of wisdom do you have for us on the Clarkson affair?

I see, so it’s been “correctly” pointed out we’re a bunch of whingers has it? Who was the adjudicator on that one?

Sorry, I thought this thread was about Snarky Clarky, not a Pavlovian trigger for all and sundry to dredge up tired, thoroughly-discredited conspiracy theories that have been done to death on ten zillion other BF threads.

Coaches are the reason we have blocking, flooding, congestion, high rotations off the bench, players diving on the ball to hold up play (now fixed through a rule change), shepherding on the mark and every other 'problem' with the modern game - somewhat ironically, many of these issues can be laid at the feet of Hawthorn and Sydney's best coaches in Clarkson and Roos.

I'm not sure if asking coaches how to fix the game is really a good idea, at least while they're still coaching. A lot of coaches *cough* Ross Lyon *cough* would be happy with a one-nil scoreline and a thousand ball-ups if they got the 4 points.

Blocking might be seen as a blight on the game or good teamwork, depending on your point of view. The AFL cracked down on it in 2015 -

http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/a...s/news-story/fb296f6507e6802df3ce1db3c6b34a41
Mark Evans - “The other thing that really emerged was the team style of defence where you have some players whose only job is to get in the road of someone and preventing them to get to the marking contest in the first place.

“It is pretty difficult to pick up on because it can be so well disguised but we think the umpires need to have a greater attention to it so we can give they key forwards a real chance to contest for the ball.”

I think the umps get the really obvious ones, but they do miss some, and teams are better at disguising their efforts. Congestion around the contest doesn't help. They'll probably crack down on it this week as 'rule of the week', but they'll probably go too far, get some wrong and we'll complain again.

Why wouldnt the most senior people at clubs talk to the most senior people at the AFL?

They would.
But they would also have official channels for that to go through. I am sure there are processes in place for clubs/coaches/officials to have routine meetings with the appropriate people at the AFL.

The big question here is: is a private meeting with the CEO, away from AFL offices, first thing on a monday morning, the normal processes through which clubs can air grievances with the AFL? Would this be available to all other AFL coaches? Would all coaches be treated as a priority to be the first person (I assume) to meet the CEO at the start of his week?

That is all highly dubious to me.
I have no problem Clarko requesting a meeting with Gil. I have a problem if it was done as a priority, if it was treated differently to others, and I have a problem with the location of the meeting appearing to have nothing to do with official AFL business.

It’s official, Clarko (the man who invented the cluster) has run out of ideas. He’s now sooking externally to the media to try and raise issues and tactics his team is no longer good enough to stop. Pretty sad stuff.

Sent from my iPad using righteous Bhodi manpower
Think you'll find that Clarko is playing the long game here, he has highlighted what the Swans do but is really aiming at the Tigers for their backline live by this tactic

This just highlights yet again why coaches should have zero influence on the rules of the game and the AFL and footy media treating them as valuable views is deeply misguided.

By the very nature of their job, their sole interest is having the game played and umpired to suit their team. Everything else is irrelevant.

2016 GF. The AFL's own review found the umpiring to be below the level expected and identified several major calls that incorrectly went against Sydney. The club went through the correct channels.

Clarkson has had a crack at individual opposition players, the umpires and approached the CEO for a one on one.

Not the same.
No he bitched about in the GF press conference.

Lol.

Dogs got just as many bad calls on the day.

Scoreboard flattered Swans.

Longmire is a hypocrite.

This paragraph from The Age says it all:

"While McLachlan wouldn't comment on the specifics of the meeting, he said it was completely normal for him to meet with senior figures in the industry, which often includes senior coaches."

This whole "story" has zero substance or facts about the meetings content and yet we already have 11 pages of people passing judgement. Until actual facts are known it's embarrassing how many people lack the ability to distinguish speculation from fact. "It is understood that.." is classic journolism wording for "we have no proof but we are guessing.."

Situationally the timing makes the story credible but as Gil stated it isn't uncommon for him to meet with coaches so who's to know what was discussed and when the meeting was organised. For all we know they may catch up weekly or fortnightly to discuss a broad range of subjects.

Please carry on with the outrage though.

Ha! Love it! He's so far ahead of the pack when it comes to coaching, that the opposition whip themselves into a frenzy based on some current affair like "journalism". He's got access to Gil like any other coach. Fake news.
