I mean although KPFs are our #1 priority, a strong inside mid like Oliver would be #2..

We have literally the opposite of Melbourne's midfield - Pendles, Treloar, Sidebottom, Daicos are all damaging with skills/pace with ball in hand but struggles against your big bodied clearance specialist (Wines, Fyfe, Danger etc).

Would rather throw 2x 1st round picks at someone like Oliver over Brown

Didn’t McClure clarify his comments later stating Clarry didn’t look happy when collecting his award at the B&F? I’m pretty sure every club is interested in him. If he demanded a trade he’s worth 2 firsts every day of the week. At least one of those in the top 10. And that’s at a minimum.

Tbh McClure is a peanut and it sounds like a load of shiz. Why wouldn’t he be happy at the dees. But 2 firsts is a good start

Tom Morris when questioned about Clayton Oliver leaving said the following:

"I think like lots of players at Melbourne, he's restless. Wasn't happy finishing 5th in b and f which is a bit childish in my view. But he's competitive. He's also very important for the Dees."

If Oliver wanted out and Zach Merrett wanted to leave us, I'd be happy to swap. Merrett complements your midfield and Oliver complements ours.

Now the issue with that of course is that they'd want out for the same reason. I don't know if they'd be willing to cross unless both teams offer an irresistible contract. If success is more of a motivating factor than money, then I can't see Oliver agreeing to come to us and vice versa.

I'd personally break the bank to lure Oliver.

I like Merrett with his outside ball use.

But I wouldn't consider an Oliver for Merritt trade though

This is only a hypothetical situation should both players be fixated on leaving. Sort of like a make the most of a bad situation thing.
It certainly beats the two firsts Melbourne would receive from Carlton considering Melbourne should be in their window now to make use of Gawn and May.
I'd prefer Merrett to stay but who knows what's going on with him.

There is absolutely no way Melbourne should swap Oliver for Merrett lol...

Despite his obvious flaws, Oliver is still a top 3 inside mid at clearances/contested possessions, whereas Merrett isn't even a top 15 midfielder in the comp.

Would 2 firsts and Spud McGovern get the job done?! Would take him every day of the week at he blues but just dont see him leaving.

Nah. That is irresponsible list management from us.

He is a good player Ollie, but doesn't make us automatically a significantly better team..
