Cloke to Carlton - welcome mat is out.

..for any club, the huge risk with Trav is the cash and longevity of the contract he wants.. ..as a crash and bash, hard working CHF.. ..will his body hold out to be worth big bucks longterm..??..

Anyone who pays him a million a year is about 30% above market value. That's just not good business.

Yep. Great contested grab but some of the shots he misses? No way is he worth that kinda cash.

Greg Denham is the least credible source in footy. Joke of a journalist.

Agree with this too. Some of the stuff he says on SEN with KB in the mornings... just wow.

I know it probably won't happen like this but i am kind of hoping that Collingwood sign Cloke on a contract much bigger than they would have hoped which would use up much of their salary cap and as a result Ben Reid will request a trade to the Swans as Collingwood won't have enough money to keep him.

People forget how tight that Cloke family are. Cameron was treated appallingly by carlton. He had played enough games to qualify for a contract extension yet Carlton sacked him anyway. Trav won't be got to princess park. That much is certain. Richmond the quiet smoky in all of this...

Don't know what clauses would have been in his contract, but I'd like to think AFL players would be held to a higher standard re: re-signing than just X amount of games. Cam Cloke played a handful of serviceable games and 3 or 4 good ones - most were absolute shockers, bit of a stretch to say Carlton treated him 'appallingly'.

He's going for cash...if any of you were in the same situation you would too, $750.000 over 4 years or $1.000.000 over 5 years. He'll be making an extra million over the four years at Carlton. Thats not even taking into account the 5th year.

Seriously the bloke is almost brain dead, This is a serious chance to completely set himself up for life after football.

& win a couple of flags

1 club thinks he's worth ~700k.

Several clubs say he's worth >$1M.

Market value != 'whatever Collingwood offers'

BrownDog is right. Greg is a joke of a journo, he's probably just speculating.
The Pies will up their offer to about 850K and Cloke will wisely decide he's better off staying at the Westpac Centre.

I agree.

But history is littered with examples of clubs rolling the dice and it paying off big time. The way you poached Jolly at the end of 2009 enabled you to win the flag.

If we offer Cloke $1m and win a flag I couldn't give a stuff what it does to our salary cap in later years. A flag is a flag.

yeh, i dunno, if he moves for the cash to say Carlton i can really see it being hit and miss.

If he does go to carlton, i can see it being a big media circus and then all that pressure...... money etc

Judd, Murphy and Gibbs to take a pay cut so that Cloke can have a raise lol.....
Probably should happen but those three considering pay cuts? They are way too selfish for that.

However;
Salary cap would not be an issue as there can be space created.
Scotland and Simpson go to veterans and have only half included in the cap.(150k each)

Veterans are now a flat $100k off cap per, so in this case,Scotland and Simpson only count $100k each.

Carlton gave Cameron a second chance after Collingwood treated him and Jason how did you put it "appallingly"... at the time wasn't it suggested that Collingwood only drafted the 2 because they knew it would lead to the end-game of snaring Travis.

In fact I don't think there was any ill-will when Cameron left Carlton.... we gave him a career life-line he was serviceable but realistically he just wasn't good enough..

Really hope carlton pick him up, as we could buy so much more with that sort of cash.

FFC should know better than any club, there is no such thing as a "silver bullet"
