Club Membership Tally 2016!

The 55,000 was at the start of December! Think we would be around 60,000 by now. Hawthorn are now a giant of a club but in the next 2-3 years when they start going down the ladder what Their membership and crowds drop.

What crap, Hawthorn have it in the bag, Rest just making up numbers, but when Hodge, Lewis retire they'll fall down the ladder with their overrated "youth".

Yep, Hopefully the new figure will be well into the 60k's once all the renewals have been done

They have won more flags in the last 3 years than we have in almost the last 60 years.
Bit depressing when you think of it like that.

I've been to their GF wins in 2008 & last 3.
I have been to more Hawthorn winning Grand Finals in my life than Collingwood.
I have seen probably 6 or so of our losing ones & was overseas on 1990.:(:(:(

I don't understand why people care so much about which club has the most members... Lets win more premierships and the rest will take care of itself!

This is what it's all about. Just for the record, I joined Hawthorn when we had only 3000 members. I just rejoined after missing 16 years.Who wouldn't want to be part of this club at the moment, and there will be a drop off (band wagoners) when the party is over.

Joining a club after a bunch of premierships is the definition of a band wagoner

So you were a member for 50 years then stopped for 16 years, and I'm assuming you weren't a member at birth so you're 75+ years old?

Your maths are spot on. In 1997, I couldn't get work in Australia (too old) so moved the Thailand, and worked here until I was 69, and now live on a pension. However, I am so happy to be able to rejoin the Hawks, even if only as an International member.

Even if Hawthorn do overtake us this year it won't be for long, they will fall away in the next few years.
I'm not sure that will happen.
Hawthorn supporters have seen a lot of success. Their fathers have taken them to games and finals where they have seen little failure.
Those kids have now had their own kids who they have been taking to the games seeing the same success.
Those kids will now grow up and instil the same passion into their kids.
In fact it's a miracle that we maintain such a large youth following considering our finals record.

There is no doubt that Hawthorns support base will remain large because of this success but I still doubt that's it grown big enough to overtake us when they are down.

We do maintain, because we may not always win but we remain consistent in being finals bound.
That and a century of generations means bulk numbers pass down to their offspring etc.

That and we have such a cool looking jumper. (That's just an aside but it is classic looking)

This is the stark reality of moment teams challenging the Pies for most members, Essendon tried then fell away when less successful, Richmond get a whiff all of a sudden they are the sleeping giant but never get a head of us, Carlton have tried forever but alas fall away, now it's the Hawks turn, 10 flags in the last 50 years, increasing population follow winners, have another state (Tassie) contributing to their tally and yet they still can't get a head of us, once they fall away so will the "boutique" supporters, Pies? Well we haven't been good since 2011, 2 flags since 58, made a lot of changes of recent yet we are still number one by a long way.... The leafs have been read.

Yeah.
Whenever I see some poor kid dressed in the Brown and Yellow stripes I feel like calling DOCS.
Surely that's child abuse.
