Help me to settle an argument.

Do club presidents get paid for their position (salary)?

or

Do club presidents recieve an honorarium for their position?

or

Is it done for the love of the club on top of other business commitments?

a president like members of a board of directors are paid positions.
there are few people who do administration jobs for free as they take a lot of time and effort.
WHAT? You can't be serious, are you that ignorant?

They are non-paid positions, most board members have other jobs, they do it on top of all their other commitments

i have a corporate administration background so i assumed that they would get paid. board positions in the corporate environment are very lucrative. just check some publicly listed profiles on the asx. most companies pay in the hundreds of thousands for board positions which only have about 10 meetings a year.

Congratulations your still wrong.:)

BTW I didn't bother with the 2nd part of your statement coz every Tom, Dick and Harry knows that.

And yet you can't start a sentence with a capital letter?

I would think that most club chairmen/presidents are well out of pocket for their involvement with their football clubs. Many pres’s directly financially support their clubs through donations and sponsorships and many forgo income through their involvement with football – I’m sure that Eddie McGuire or Jeff Kennett (for example) could earn tens of thousands of dollars from public speaking engagements instead of hosting presidents luncheons (for free) on match days.

Whilst they might not get paid directly, I know of a number of Presidents and Board Members whose company’s have benefited quite nicely from their relationships with clubs and the AFL.
;)

True, most company directors are paid positions, but i dont think afl clubs are.

Maybe they are covered for their costs i.e. fuel etc.?

no shit. what has that got to do with footy club boards ? you've tried to talk yourself up, for no reason. then you've spouted information that's in the paper every second day and has no relevance whatsoever to the guy's question. then you've got the answer completely wrong. top post.

At traditional member controlled footy clubs the president is honorary. They put a truck load into clubs for love. At some of the more corporatised clubs they paid the administrators which include the chief, whatever title they give him.

You should know to look at your teams annual financial statements and have a look at the notes to accounts under 'Remuneration of Directors' or similar. It won't tell you exactly who gets what but you will have a fair idea. From memory, most hawks directors do it for nothing.

I'm sure the club would be happy to tell you if you are a member or at least point in the direction for that information. As a member you would have the right to know general details such as whether a president is remunerated, similar to a shareholders rights.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I think this discussions is quite fascinating.
So, is the Collingwood President, Eddie Maguire, paid by Collingwood? I expect he does it for the love of his team, and he of course, has many other well paid jobs eg channel 9, triple MMM radio, Foxtel etc.
But then the CEO, Gary Pert, that is his full time job, so I imagine he is well paid by Collingwood.
It's quite confusing.
My thoughts were, and this could be wrong, that people holding full time positions with clubs are paid, and people who sit on boards at occasional but regular board meetings, are not paid, as they are usually wealthy people anyway & do it for the love of their team. How these people are appointed to the board of the football club is another can of worms.
E.g. Caroline Wilson, the journalist, keeps calling for ed Maguire to stand down, implying he appointed himself to the position

But let's take hawthorns board as an example-
http://www.hawthornfc.com.au/club/people/the-board
They all seem to be seasoned executives from the world of business, with an ex-player / captain in there too.
All un-paid for their hawthorn board role?

Members of a board can be payed a retainer, I am pretty sure board members and Presidents of AFL clubs are all honorary- they don't get payed.

However it is good look, they make business contacts etc ect, so they may benefit in other ways.
