Easily one of the dumbest things the club has ever said, aside from winning a flag by 2023 like a scorched earth rebuild is in anyway even remotely similar to a normal one.

We aren't the Brisbane Lions ffs, we're trying to rebuild from nothing, why you would persist like its business as usual like a normal rebuild completely baffling.

That's the best part though really, there's no way the club wouldn't know the rebuild we were doing isn't even remotely similar to a normal one, yet they still persisted with the dumb campaigner messaging of 66 game rebuild, we'll win a flag by 2023, complete and utter idiocy.

Just tell it to us like it is, its not a normal rebuild, we're rebuilding from complete nothing, it will take time, it will be tough, but not the CFC, iTs nORmaL, Jesus Christ.

2009-2014 drafting, one player remains on our list from that time period and that's Patrick Cripps, dummies incorporated for not controlling the messaging from day 1. The fact that its just Cripps tells you all you need to know about the position we're in.

No doubt many of the supporter frustrations and abuse would be attributed to the clubs incredibly poor messaging to its supporters.
When our team lined up against Richmond in Round 1 2019, the list had been completely rebuilt. That was 66 games in.

The problem was Bolton went off the rails. Teague going 6-5 showed where we were.

We’ve made plenty of mistakes, and had a few wasted years (18 injuries, 19 Bolton, 20 Covid, 21 Teague), but the list was rebuilt in 66 games.

So we've done a scorched earth rebuild, but we've managed to do it in 3 seasons? Compared to a normal rebuild??

As we had to start the list from scratch hence all the GWS players etc etc.

What's a normal rebuild then? 2 seasons?

From 2009-2014, only 1 player still on our list that was properly drafted and that's Patty Cripps.

Yep if 1 more poster compares Teague 21 to Hardwick 16, I'm going to be sick

One had consistent runs on the board as a top 8 coach.

The other has.... nothing
I would like a dollar every time someone trotted out the Richmond kept Dimma and then won premierships and Geelong kept Bomber and then won premierships. And then used it to justify hanging onto a coach , did it with Bolton and now it seems with Teague.

He hasn’t taken this list backwards, we are very competitive, he just hasn’t got the team to the next step of taking big scalps and pushing into finals. Stagnant at this stage of our development.

Disagree entirely. This is - or should be - an ascending player group. Holding position on the ladder is going backwards - in fact I’d say reaching ten wins, ie matching last year, is a huge stretch - after bringing in 3 best 22 mature aged recruits no less. Our talent alone is what’s keeping us in games. with a modern, effective system paired with sensible selection outcomes this is a top six group of players, minimum.

if there’s a pre-determined outcome that Teague stays and the deck chairs are shuffled around him, it’s just a continuation of 20 years of this club selling itself short.

And we need someone who really understands how to balance offensive running and positioning with the ability to react defensively.

Thank you for articulating the above so succinctly. I reckon it's the Achilles heel of our present game plan. So frustrating and IMO, the reason why the players are spent come red time.

So will this review lay the all the blame on SOS?

Is that a jab at SOS or the club? Why would SOS be implicated in what's happening right now?

He's not to blame for 2/10 development at Carlton or idiocy of playing players out of position, over and over again.

Let alone the multitude of dumb decisions by David Teague + co.

P.S. Hardly a SOS fan, just seems a little ridiculous he's getting the blame.

Cop out to say he's not to blame for strategy given his over-arching role as "Head of List Management and Strategy" implied a greater sense of importance than just the domain of list management.

Notwithstanding I would put to you that List Management and player development are intrinsically linked. Suppose it was the domain of others - should the Head of List Management and Strategy be effectively gagged when it comes to player development?

Unpopular opinion, but without doubt Stephen Silvagni is in part responsible for the current malaise.

Don't think he was blaming SOS, just asking if they would as he gets prodded a bit.

Looking at the draft list from a few pages ago though I think it shows our development has been sh** for the entire decade. If Dustin Martin had been drafted by us he's probably living in NZ with his old man right now.

Genuinely wouldn't have mattered who SOS brought in with our development.

Fair point, what has SOS bungled though? You aren't a fan of Dow and LOB as picks?

As when he came in, list was an absolute trainwreck, completely bereft of any chance of playing finals.

I'm no fan either, I said before 6/10 at best imo currently given how our players are going, but lot of that can be attributed to sub-par development.

Hopefully that improves, as realistically what? We picked the only spuds in that draft? Find that very hard to believe.

Do we know who is conducting the review?
Wasnt mentioned in the article i saw other than to say it would be an external review. It was interesting that Luke Sayers was doing some informal interviews with players and staff.

Do we know who is conducting the review?

At the moment all we know is Sayers + outsiders.

I'm sure more info will come out in coming days/weeks ala rumour snippets etc.

Pray to the footy gods Barass drops a golden nugget at some point.

Pray that the review demands better standards across the football department.

Pray that it recommends to stop gifting games to veterans and ‘good blokes’ of the club.

Pray that it asks why young players are constantly being played out of position, including being isolated in d50 against premier small forwards. Or being thrown forward despite good midfield work.

Pray that it questions why our fitness levels are so bad.

Pray that it asks wtf we are doing about Cripps and Harry’s contracts.

Pray that it seeks clarification on exactly what our gameplan is, and who is driving it.

Pray that it queries if we know what defensive effort and defensive pressure is.

Pray that it asks if the club has any real leaders, who are willing to stand up in key moments and lead by f*cking example on the field.

Pray that it asks the club if they know what sort of pain they are inflicting on their supporters.

If he was the kind of person who would push for us to give up pick 7 for Saad... I would hope so. ;)
He was the kind of person that didn't give in the to Suns when they wanted a first round pick for Martin.

I doubt SOS would've have caved last minute and given pick 7 for Saad.

We may have questions about who he selected, but in terms of negotiating trades he was excellent.

In terms of trading, SOS rock solid, magician that campaigner, turn a spud pick into gold.
