If I’m Pyke I’m getting fremantles CEO on board and going to the AFL with some kind of soft cap COLA. Absolute bs that we are hamstrung with the same caps as over east. We aren’t in Melbourne so any new assistant coaches ect need to relocate and would you move city’s for the same money I wouldn’t.
If you had any idea how expensive real estate is in Melbourne, the afl would laugh at you. Moving to Perth saves you money.

Most coaches are already established in Melbourne moving to the other side of the country especially with family would incur a cost of atleast 50-100k extra. Why would you love when you have the choice of 10 clubs and don’t need to pay money to relocate ?

Daisy Pearce is getting damned good money to be our aflw coach and to get well credited assistants you would be looking at 300k plus it’s just not feasible with the current soft cap

Of course he didn't but he knew about it and let it slide because he was winning games.
Anyway agree on hird he needs to start at the bottom again.
I think we all know Hird won't be in consideration
There’s a high amount of suspicion he cheated as a player and evidence he cheated as a coach. Why in the hell does he deserve a chance to work his way back up? He can find other ways to make money like everyone else in the world, no idea why football has to roll out the welcome back mat.

The issue isn't the cost of moving. It's way cheaper for a coach to move to Perth, Brisbane Adelaide than to move to Sydney Melbourne.

The issue is the coaches have a 6 month sacking clause which provides no stability.

If you move your family to any new state and then find yourself sacked a year or 2 later with only 6 month notice, the ability to find alternative roles in Melbourn (9 other teams) are way better than the interstate clubs with 1.

We are about to complete our 4th consecutive year out of finals (a club record surpassing the 3 years from 2008-10 we finished outside the 8) with finishes of 9th, 17th, 18th and 16-18th once this season ends

With no return to finals action, how does our streak compare to other clubs?

Adelaide - about to miss for a 7th year with finishes of 12,11,18,15,14,10 and 14-15th since making a GF in 2017

Brisbane - in the wilderness for 9 years from 2010-18 finishing 13(of 16), 15(of 17), 13,12,15,17,17,18,15

Carlton - their return to finals last year ended a 9 year streak from 2014-22 out of finals finishing 13,18,14,16,18,16,11,13,9 (it would have been 11 had Essendon not been disqualified from finals in 2013 allowing Carlton to play finals from 9th)

Collingwood - most recently sat out from 2014-17 (11,12,12,13) but also had a 7 year stretch from 1995-2001 without finals (10,11,10,14,16,15,9 in a 16 team comp)

Essendon - famously haven’t win a final since 2004 but have never missed them altogether for longer than 4 years in 2005-08 (13,15,12,12). Have made finals 6 times in the 19 years since their last win but never in consecutive years

Fremantle - spent 6 years out of finals from 2016-21 (16,14,14,13,12,11) after winning the minor premiership in 2016. Also took them 9 years to make their first finals appearance in 2003 after joining the comp in 1995

Geelong don’t miss finals - their worst patch was a single appearance (2000) in a 6 year stretch from 1998-2003 but never finishing lower than 12th

Gold Coast never make finals - it’s their 14th year and 12th is their best finish

GWS - made finals for the first time in their 5th year (2016) and have only missed twice since then

Hawthorn - might break a current streak of 5 years out of finals since 2018 (9,15,14,13,16) or extend that run to 6 if they fall short (currently 11th)

Melbourne - were in the wilderness for 11 years from 2007-17 (14,16,16,12 (16 teams), 13 (17 teams), 16,16,17,13,11,9). Even that pales into comparison to the 22 year stretch from 1965-86 without making finals)

North Melbourne - will make it 8 on the trot this year after last appearing in 2016. Have finished 15,9,12,17,18,18,17 and somewhere from 16-18th this year

Port Adelaide - their worst stretch was 5 years (2008-12) following the 119 capitulation in 2007. Finished 13,10,10,16,14 before Ken arrived

Richmond - before they got good they were horrid. Just two finals appearances in 30 years (1995 & 2001) from 1983 to 2012. In an 11 year stretch from 2002-12 they finished 14,13,16,12,9,16,9,15,15,12,12 with all but the last 2 years in a 16 year comp

St Kilda - had an 8 year run from 2012-19 out of finals (9,16,18,14,9,11,16,14)

Sydney - like Geelong they don’t miss finals. Have to go back to 1988-1995 to find an extended period where they were absent. Have only missed 5 times in the 29 years since

Western Bulldogs - missed 5 years from 2001-05 (10,12,16,14,9) and 4 years from 2011-14 (10,15,15,14)

Whoever comes in will be under pressure because another 3-4 years out of contention (which is possible, if not probable) then our current rut will extend to 7-8 years and in the company of some pretty average eras from other clubs

We've explored depth of rut pretty well I'd say. Let's see how we go for width!

They don't. Not sure what cheating as a player means? More info? Footy rolls out the welcome mat to pretty much everyone.

One of the people reported as getting the drugs to the club during their team wide issue "helped" James Hird recover from an injury that was career threatening before they went on that run in 2000.

Again how did he cheat as a player?
As Charters is known for importing banned supplements it has been inferred that Hird amongst others, Shane Woewodin, Luke Darcy for instance took banned supplements which is cheating. But I suspect you knew that and are just being deliberately obtuse.

Ash Hanson is a lock barring C Scott or Buckley miraculously wanting the job.

Eagles always have been and always will be a boys club, it aint never changing.

I wouldn’t mind Bevo either but he just does not seem to be like the coach the Eagles like to employ.
A couple of years ago I saw Bevo at Perth airport in the off season. He had lost his shoes. I’d say the link is indisputable that he would now be our next coach… why else would he be here in summer without shoes?? It all fits

Hansen hasn't been at the club for what, 16 years?

A 'boy's' club would be doing everything to get Dean Cox in.

It just so happens that 3 of the top assistant candidates happen to be ex-Eagles.

Also, Simmo over Sumich ring any bells?

No I am not, you guys are just assuming someone took drugs to fit an argument.

Good story though mate, but all just hear say without an ounce of proof or truth to it.

The issue I see here is, what coach is going to want to take on that kind of role?

"Hey, we think you're good enough to get us pointed in the right direction, then once you've done the hard yards, we'll get rid of you and bring in someone else to reap the rewards"
It happened with Longmire at Sydney and Melbourne with Goodwin. Although Roos was the 2005 premiership coach, he laid the foundation for Longmire who won in 2012. Same with Goodwin. There are other examples, but they are 2 that spring to mind.

It might be a good thing for you. If the incumbent is to lay foundations you might not have unrealistic expectations.

MMmmm, I was thinking "See we are not that bad compared to a lot of others"
Then your last sentence brought me back to Earth.
