It's always the mids in the coaches award too. As a forward, it's just nigh on impossible to star as consistently as the top mids do.
Agree, and don't even think it's a bias. Just the nature of the position. A forward will rarely kick 5+ nowadays which you pretty much need for max votes. Alternative is to be a high disposal/mark KPP and that is also mostly a thing of the past. You can't often justify max votes because a key forward stands up in a couple of key moments.

Key forwards still get enough recognition. I think still more than they deserve. It's key defenders that get the raw deal. AFL really does need a defender's award.

Moore, May and Weitering didn't receive a single Brownlow vote between them last year.

Good article about the weirdness of these blokes being so incredibly crucial to their teams but not being recognised in awards at all:

I'm not sure the umpires know what a defender is lol they may as well not exist.

Amazing start to the year by both Daicos boys. Nick rightly so gets massive air time. Staggeringly he has polled coaches votes in all five games

Let’s not underestimate the season Josh is also having. He’s polled coaches votes in four games.

Nick is big time box office , Josh is Broadway.

Both been brilliant.

I assume Wilkie was one of their key defenders who was marking everything that came in?

I would have had 4 key defenders in the top 5 on the ground. No wonder it was so low scoring.
Is that down to defensive brilliance though or Ross Lyon tactics? If anything, it should mean that someone who kicked a few goals like Bobby Hill could’ve snuck in since he was able to break through the defensive game.

They went with a plus 1 behind the ball, but that's pretty standard. What were they doing that was so defensive?

Noone is going to give us the corridor to the extent that we dominated it against Port.
