Couldn't agree more supernova_
He'll need to earn his stripes
Hawthorn was reluctant to give him the captaincy becaiuse of his off-field indiscretions
You can't argue with his on-field leadership but coaching is way way more than that
Today it's more like being a CEO with Departmental Heads
Watch Clarkson in the box
Unless he has mental telepathy he makes virtually no calls or changes
He has an army of coaches under him

Much better available players this year and virtually no improvement. In fact ‰ wise in relation to players available we have gone backwards IMO.
Agree with your ideas re Ashcroft and Clayton though and being able to bring his own staff.
The whole football department needs a clean out.
AND IT'S COMING
Clayton has had 7-8 years and Evans only needs to look at our list. In our 7th year and the only real excitement at the moment is a rookie upgrade that has been flying in the NEAFL.

I guess the question now is, does rocket last the year? Or do they let him go soon? Think it's pretty obvious he won't be coaching is next year

If Evans wants to sack Ashcroft and replace him with Rocket then he can finish the season.

If he doesn't want to do that then bone him now, give Solomon the caretaker role and say to him "play the kids and teach them the mongrel that u played with."

Rocket Eade-had a fantastic Sydney team. No GF win. Orange squeezed dry. Rebuild then resulted in a Roos Drought breaking Premiership

Western Bulldogs-had a great team. Couldn't get to a GF. Orange squeezed dry. A rebuild later and they break their drought.

Gold Coast-given a talented team on the verge of big things. Everyone except Brisbane goes past us.

Thanks for changing the culture Rocket. U can have Ashcroft's job. Hopefully a post Rocket rebuild brings us too what Sydney and Footscray fans have enjoyed.

Wonder if the club has the balls to get an up and comer. Or if they try for someone like Clarkson instead.
At least Evans has a good insight on all of Clarksons assistants, and they generally seem like the best ones outside current coaches.

GWS has such depth that they will just trade away and get great kids year in and year out for a decade. They are set up.

If the so called wonderful AFL with its self-proclaimed amazing admin is fair dinkum then they will Staff us with the very best there is next year and if GAJ leaves they will make sure we get a Marquee replacement from the top drawer.

So Gill McLachlan-put away the hairspray, stop gazing into the mirror and step up sunshine.

News from Fox that GWS are after Dean Solomon..........
The timing of this is interesting. His manager at work maybe?
If Eade is told he's not going to be coach next year, would he leave mid season like he did at the Swans In 2002?
Problem was the caretaker did that well they were forced to sign him despite talk of a verbal agreement with Wallace.
If Solomon did take over and we thrived it has 2002 all over again and we might already have someone else in mind.

They mentioned on Fox that his contract finishes at the end of July so something will have to be sorted by then I assume....
No his contract finishes October 1 just like all player contracts. But all assistance coaches have to be notified by August 1 if they will be required for the following year, if that makes sense, stupid rule the coaches association made the afl bring in a few years ago

GWS reserves team are dead last. They have won 1 game and have a % of 56.

My bad. You are correct. August 1st was mentioned and I remembered that as it was contract end, but it was as you said, they need to be notified if they're required next year. geez, I hate getting old...:(:(

They used to annihilate us in the NEAFL. Must be a reflection of their huge injury list?
Anyway for them to have a massive injury list this year and be coming first in the AFL does clearly show they have great depth.
Our injury list has been bigger for the last 3 years.
I would also argue Day's injury is much more costly than people realise.
Massive impact on structure.
