Can’t help but wonder if Flanders, Sharp and co get a decent shot now and perhaps even a change of heart

Probably too late but 🤞
Flanders has already been getting a decent shot, if sharp is intent on heading back to wa then not much point playing him. Others like Graham, hollands and chol will be interesting though.

Hope they don't all turn on him when we don't make finals next year 😛
I’m sure he would get a fair shake, just like Dew did, don’t think many would argue that he wasn’t given every chance

Richmond fans melting with the thought of hardwick coaching and dusty playing for the Suns. If it is hardwick how soon could it be announced? Straight after minor rounds?

Stuart Dew Sacked – Another poorly executed move by the board

I would just like to say thank you to Stuart Dew for everything he has done for the club. He is a credit to himself and his family and he will always be spoken of fondly around the Suns. I hope he finds another job he is happy with soon.

Stuart Dew didn’t deserve all this speculation and should have seen out the rest of the season. I find it hard to believe that Stephen King as the interim will change things sharply enough in just a few weeks to get the Suns to finals. Why not let Dew see out this year and then part ways after the players’ jobs are done?

So if we get Hardwick everyone will be happy again, right?
To be honest, I don’t mind who comes in, I just want them to have a clear, modern gameplan that utilises the strengths of our players.

I have nothing against Dew, but his lack of positive gameplan became painfully clear this year, and we were never going to take that next step while playing it, and I didn’t trust him to recognise and address this. I think his style also seems to have gone too far in valuing players who try hard over players with good skills and footy smarts.

Because they wanted to send a clear message that continued mediocrity will not be allowed to continue unaddressed that's why.

Whateley just brought up a good point on AFL 360. He said the Titans announced just a few weeks ago that they've appointed highly successful coach Des Hasler for next year and suggested that could be a big part of the reason we've done this to secure Hardwick for next year. What do we think?

Agree, Time will show whether this was the right move and if the timing was correct, at this point none of us know.

What we do know is that the results over the last couple of years are well below acceptable and the buck stops with the senior coach. If a new coach fails that doesn’t prove that it would be different if Dew stayed, there is plenty of evidence that he couldn’t get the group to perform at an elite level.

I think this was partly to do will too much focus on conditioning and not enough ball skills. We all know the game is easy when you have the ball rather than chasing. I hope the new coach has all the players kicking and leading while fatigued to get them hitting targets in real game situations and for pity’s sake teach them to block and how to tackle.

I just think the expectations for Hardwick to come in and for us to magically be good next year are a little OTT.
True but a I think that’s true of all clubs, perhaps even more so of a club and fan base so starved of success

I do think (maybe optimistically) that we have been underachieving given our list and that we have the nucleus and potential to jump into the 8.

We are, however, about 4-5 players short of really getting somewhere, depending on how the new coach uses our players. A couple of half-backs with speed and good skill, a genuine winger, and a small forward who understands front and centre. How many of these players are already on the list waiting to be unlocked remains to be seen. Obviously a mature key defender would be great as well , but they are few and far between around the league.

Rogers and hopefully Will Graham coming through may in time fill a couple of these holes as well.

Not happy with how this went down.

They should have shown him a bit more respect.

Go to him and say "Look, we know you're contracted for next year, but it's finals or you're out" and then make clear that if/when it becomes obvious we're not making finals, we'll start exploring our options.

I can agree it's time to move on and find a new head coach, but we've just played the top 2 teams. No surprise we lost those two. Really only the Carlton game was disappointing in the past month or so. To 'suddenly' decide he's not the right guy now is just bullshit. Either the board had this in mind for quite a while, in which case they've been lying through their asses, or it's a stupid kneejerk reaction (I think it's the former).
I am pretty sure 'finals or bust' was there for Dew from the beginning of the season. Just listen to players, admins expectations before the season. The aim was to contend.

Collingwood was easily the most disappointing game for me. Not even close. That's the game which sealed Dew's fate, IMO. I have no doubt Dew was aware of expectations and knew his job is on the line this year if we don't play finals. If you watch presser after Collingwood game, he probably knew his time was up. He was shattered.

Starting season 1:4 put us on back foot, and it was always difficult catching up. We got a good run with injuries, players now played together 3 years and we still looked clueless at times. I would also put responsibility on assistant coaches. As an example, our interim coach Steven King was responsible for our midfield, the area where we were exposed badly. In the end, senior coach is in charge and takes responsibility.

Not sure how a new coach will go but he will inherit a very good list, IMO. It's not re-build, just taking a next step to play finals with a chance to win it all.
I couldn't believe this when Robbo said Campbell still lives in Sydney.

Family lives in Sydney. Campbell goes and visits them on off days. According to media.

Don't think what is happening at the Titans had any influence in this decision.

If we think this sacking was bad, that sacking was worse. How can you sack your coach and announce the new coach from next year on the same day.

Which is why its happened now
They couldn't afford to give Dew oxygen with a few late season nothing wins
We saw what happened with Darwin
You sack him now and in 6 weeks time announce that after an exhaustive process Hardwick or whoever is coach
You can't sack Dew on August 28th and announce the new coach the same day
This way the new coach arrives at the Club September 1st, manages exits and list decisions
Doing it any other way would have been the height of insanity
New guy(whoever it is ) has to hit the ground running
Seemless segue into pre-season

I think what will be most exciting to see with (possibly) Dimma is a new, modern game plan that suits these players. Exciting. High pressure. Risk v reward. Similar to what richmond/pies have.

He would want his side to be fun to watch. Fun to play.
