Could be reading into it too much but did that clip make it seem like Davies is going to play in the seniors this weekend? King wants Davies to be the "most physical and aggressive player on the ground this week". Is that part of his plan to counteract the GWS mids like their inside bull Tom Green?
vfl had a bye last week. kingy prob means any level

Maybe Lloyd thinks dusty will be an asset to the suns as he hates seeing us do well and will sink the boots in at any opportunity. I do see where he is coming from though but if dusty were to come it wouldn't be anywhere near the full salary if Richmond want a decent pick in return. It's also not like a buddy franklin last year who's position wasn't of need to us, a fwd/mid who is a great kick into the forward 50 and kicks goals is something we are crying out for. A couple of years while Humphrey and hollands develop and can take over that role once he's done sounds pretty good to me.

Can’t we give him 3 years and smooth it out like Geelong?

$1.8 mil over 3 years sounds reasonable and if Richmond want a decent pick like a second rounder they pay $1mil of that

If we genuinely hadn't made a decision or offer to Hardwick wouldn't you expect us to do what every other club does when they look for a new coach and appoint a selection panel

East a couple of times referred to a "process" to hire a new coach and given how much rides for us on the next one being the messiah then you would think the AFL would demand a panel of smart people along with a couple of independent AFL designated choices be appointed to vett the applicants

The lack of action or discussion around that and also the fact Hardwick has STILL not said a word seems to indicate its already decided I think

Eppo's assertions are of course always 100% also so it all points to the deal being done already

And you'd want a coach before the draft/trade period. If you're doing it by a panel and a real search, these things take time and we're almost to August -- it does suggest, with no real word on this .. process, they know who they want. A bit like Carko to north. Went after one person.

I notice no real big changes other than Burgess in the squad for selection, strange dumping Fiorini, seems like King isn't much different to Dew in the players he rates
To be fair they had a decent win last week, probably not going to be many changes. Rosas sub maybe?

King was hand picked by Dew wasn’t he?
He’s sat through all the selection meetings
We shouldn’t be surprised

Well personally I’m glad they’re running with the same group. I think they’ve got things pretty right.

Oea is a bit lucky. Brings good aspects but is probably not at AFL level. Wouldn’t have minded sexton in for him. We’ve scored 77-73-42 in our last 3. Giants have conceded 57-72-45-36-75 in their last 5. It’s going to be tough to kick a winning score.

From the VFL burgess, Chol, Graham, Davies, farrar, rosas, sexton, lemmens, uwland the only ones that should even be on the table for me.

Damien Hardwick would be put through a series of high-level interviews with Suns powerbrokers similar to Ross Lyon’s talks with St Kilda before the former Tigers coach was offered a long-term deal with the club.
Gold Coast will take on GWS on Sunday for their second game under interim coach Steven King with the football world expecting Hardwick to assume the senior coaching role.

But the Suns are yet to make formal contact with Hardwick’s camp about their coaching process.

The Suns refused to discuss how they would proceed with replacing Stuart Dew on Friday, adamant they would keep the chase for their new coach behind closed doors.

But it is understood Hardwick is yet to talk to the Suns, who under new chairman Bob East want to run a diligent process to replace Dew.
The Suns are aware of Hardwick’s strong interest in coaching again in 2024, given connections at the club with former Richmond premiership coach Hardwick.

Those close to Hardwick believe he and the Suns would need a series of meetings on strategy, leadership, the club’s direction and his vision for Gold Coast before he was hired.

While Hardwick’s football acumen does not need proving, any club hiring him so quickly after he left Richmond burnt out would need to be reassured about his passion for a new job.

Lyon was St Kilda’s only target when it sacked Brett Ratten but both Lyon and the club’s powerbrokers, in new CEO Simon Lethlean and president Andrew Bassat, finalised the process with repeated discussions on whether he was suited to the role.

Hardwick will be in Europe until late August so the Suns have time to identify exactly what kind of coach they want — almost certainly a senior figure in the Hardwick mould — as King finishes the season.

Expectation
After a long and exhaustive process that involved 100 different candidates from all over the nation, we've done our due diligence by leaving no stone unturned and have determined that Damien Hardwick is the best coach for us moving forward.

Reality
Suns: Do you want the job, Dimma?
Dimma: Yeah.
Suns: Great. We'll see you in August.

More like

Dimma: I want the job, I’m committed, full of energy and have A graders wanting to join. We are going to build a dynasty!!!

Suns: yeah nah, we have signed King to a 10 year contract based on 2 bump wins, Soz.

Hypothetical: King takes the team on a big win streak and we make finals.

Do you keep him on as coach

no, we need a long term plan.

If we made finals this year with 2/3 academy kids coming in, we surely would have a very nice shortlist to pick from.
