It’s a shame, because that was a great game. Whether that was a specific role he was given, or he just enjoyed playing in Darwin, I don’t know.

We need a lockdown small defender badly, but he has definitely is not consistent enough to be it. Time will tell if he has it in him.
He has another three years to show if he's good enough. Contracted to 2026

Nobody would join us if we did not offer Ellis, Atkin, Long contracts. Sad reality until we play finals. Maybe Hardwick can change that? :p

Ellis and Atkins were good adds on paper, we needed senior wingers.

Still do, maybe a change of system can unlock their strengths.

Long not sure, what’s going on. If he can play a sacrificial role that lets Powell & Weller attack then no dramas. Ball in hand very untrustworthy

Wonder how Ellis and Chol feel about the prospect of being coached by Dimma again. Ellis is probably ecstatic but I wouldn't think Chol would be too happy considering how much VFL footy he played for the Tigers.

Well, Chol is pretty used to VFL this season anyway…

Was wondering about what ex Tigers players at the Suns would feel if that eventuated.

Chol was one. When is he out of contract?

All the talk is hinkley is just the face of the coaching group and josh carr is calling all the shots. Get the feeling hinkley might be past his used by date. Richmond are very keen on Josh carr.

You only have to watch a port to see Hinkley is irrelevant there. He just sits on the bench watching the game.

Carr sounds like the one to go for but he might prefer to stay at port.

No im Victorian based, any news out of it?
  • Riley Harbrow (Jarrod's daughter) conducted the welcome to country.
  • Bob East wants success (finals) and is willing to make the tough calls to get it.
  • Mark Evans hates Caroline Wilson.
  • Steven King was most pleased with the desperation the boys played with yesterday and wants it to continue.
  • Touk loves the club/city and is really excited about the future with the young talent we have.
  • All players were there mingling with the members.
  • Probably about 150-200 members showed up for the event.

Nothing of note then. Cheers.

I went, East spoke well Evans really wanted to say his piece about Caro and no truth to there being a leak..... probably came off a bit defensive I thought he got heckled by a few and handled it well, said he was happy to speak one on one to anyone after his speech

I talked to Alex Davies, Sam Flanders, Swallow, Longy, Ballard, Darcy, they all were good seemingly moved on none of them were gutted nor seemingly traumatised by Dew going. A couple admmitted they weren't in his good books anyway and one said yesterday was the first time he knew clearly exactly what he had to do and what his role was on game day, he had a great game too

I could not believe Atkins game yesterday, incredible to see what he is capable of when confident and used correctly, the better we get the better he should be, I was not a fan until yesterday he was everywhere and constantly creating opportunity I mentioned this to another player and he subtly alluded to the fact that perhaps Atkins had clear air and clarity about what he was to do for the first time

Players LOOOOOVE King and how he communicates and Drummond big time too

Did I hear them correctly when they said it was going to be an annual event they will hold? I would encourage any Suns member/fan to go to this event next year. We literally got the opportunity to talk to any player or board member we wanted to. I really appreciated the transparency, especially at a time when a lot of us had/have questions.

Well over 2/3 of the players were happy to see Dew go FACT.
I'M sure thurls64 can confirm this

I was actually wondering if any board members other than East were there?

eppo, I think the aftermath so far has been kind to SD and how rough it was on him but what I know of how he went about it internally I am surprised he lasted as long as he did and I was really excited about his coming to us, thought he was going to be THE man. I think as time goes on more will come out on his poor handling of players, assistants and any of those that challenged him or disagreed with him - it was not uncommon for him not to speak to players for long periods of time if they weren't in his plans
eppo I couldn't accurately say how many as a percentage I know you have much better current intel but I know it was a significant amount that were passed over by him or didn't feel his confidence in them
I was also told by a player yesterday that he (SD) basically withdrew when these losses starting happening this year and didn't handle them well which didn't fill the players with a lot of confidence, same player said it was pretty common knowledge, one other said this too, that he would not be kept on as coach but they didn't know when
The majority of people I have spoken to feel he has been treated poorly and didn't deserve what happened and it was a bad outcome for the club so the fact is public opinion that I have heard is very sympathetic to Stuey and unhappy with the club
As I said as time goes on I think the negative side of what was happening internally will come out and probably a more balanced overview will hopefully be seen

After reading the positive reactions from the players I am prompted now to respond to previous chide remarks.

I preface the following that there would be no-one here with more coaching and administration experience as I have had.

It was imperative that Dew had to be sacked. I follow the Suns VFL team closely and enjoy their style of play and know there are many capable of playing a future role in the AFL. Josh Drummond is a great coach and has the ability and quality to lead this club to great heights.

Would be disappointed if the club installed a recycled coach such as Hardwick. This years premiers will be coached by a first time head coach. Let that sink in.

Have now discovered that I cannot change my handle as it is no longer relevant.
