Not a huge depth show but I'm keen to see S4.

Who is the target audience for this? Those of us who loved the movies when we were younger - or a new crowd?

I think it targets two separate audience demographics.

The kids of today say 10-18 and the adults that watched the four Karate Kid movies.

Its a simple show, thats one of those guilty pleasures you enjoy.

I don't know where the idea that it's shallow and simple, Johnny coming to terms with his failures as a father in life are taken seriously.

Yeah I see what you mean.. but it's just a feeling whenever I've watched it, that it doesn't have a huge substance by comparison to some other shows I guess

The fact this series shows Daniel LaRusso as a less than perfect human being, husband and father after his Karate Kid days, and actually makes Johnny Lawrencd the more likeable adult despite his lack of success and failings as an adult is actually a brilliant and superbly written character development on behalf of the writers of Cobra Kai..

I just love it does cast off the shackles of your typical everything works out for the best trope after a series of movies/trilogy etc

Agree. I enjoy watching it, but lets not kid ourselves here, it is not a deep and meaningful drama.

Though I have loved the redemption story of Johnny Lawrence.

I have enjoyed the backstories that has gone a long way in making characters redeemable. In particular Johnny and Kreese.

Remains to be seen how if they go down that path of doing the same for Silver and Barnes.

Wait what? Larusso comes off as terribly likeable. Just with a bit of realism and not 1950s tv dad sort of way.

Its predictable but i Love the fact they got Kreese's own son (Jesse, son of Martin Kove) to star in all those harrowing Vietnam war flashbacks.

Not really, compared to Johnny Lawrence these days

In fact, if he was still alive, I am certain Mr Miyagi would be bitterly disappointed on how Daniel has grown up, based on all this teachings in the movies, from what i have seen so far in Cobra Kai

This is what is so brilliant about the show, the way the characters and plot are written, many people/fans can take or interpret it in different ways.

In many ways, I think the modern Larusso has betrayed his mentor and all he stood for as a person

Martin Kove’s son wasn’t John Kreese in the Vietnam flashbacks. He appeared in that one episode and that’s it.

I think some of us on here need to settle these arguments at the All Valley Tournament. :$

:D

I think there is some predictability to this season, actually wish the Tournament was not the most likely finale but done earlier.

I presume all the first 9 episodes will be the lead up to the Tournament.

It will be interesting as to how they introduce potentially Swank into the series, to date Daniel has not mentioned her at all.

Maybe she provides a female guidance for Sam???

He starts the series as a smug self righteous guy who flaunts his status and success over some guy that gave him a hard time 40 years ago then actively sabotages his life when it has no affect on his own.
