Surely if his jaw was not mended he wouldn't have played unless his jaw was mended but couldn't play because everyone thought it was unmended but in reality there was nothing wrong except it was still broken like everyone thought except it doesn't look broken. Therefore he would have play if he hadn't played because he could have play when he didn't.
