Collingwood and Richmond request to play each other twice in 2013

Why so jealous? I don't understand the venom you're spitting out. Yes you're not in the Victorian Big 4, but hey you're the Tasmanian Big 1 :thumbsu::thumbsu:

hardly jealous, just want a fair fixture, play every team 4 times over 3 seasons

i dont understand how if these teams are supposedly so big, the need for them to play each other twice, especially if the return fixtures always fail to draw a crowd.
It was only 47k last friday for the "big" clubs richmond and essendon

i suppose if richmond play collingwood at etihad the 2nd time, thatd be fine

Richmond and Collingwood haven't played each other twice in one season since 2007.

How's it any fairer if they don't play twice next season?

How can anyone take your opinion seriously when you obviously write with such exaggeration? I feel sorry for the left side of your brain, it's obviously not functioning properly.

You are whingeing about having to play an AWAY match in a stadium that will hold 33,000 next year when if the game was played in Melbourne you are unlikely to draw more than 35,000

No exaggeration

Pop Quiz: How many times in the last 30 years has Richmond and Geelong played in front of 50,000 or more people?

But how many times have Richmond played Carlton & essendon?
How many times will Richmond play essendon and Carlton next year?

Either drop the return games against them or get on with it

I don't see how that's relevant to Richmond-Collingwood.

Richmond/Collingwood shouldn't be confused with Richmond/Carlton, Richmond/Essendon. They are different scenarios.

It's almost like having Fre/WC and Port/Adel play each other twice a season, they are state/suburban rivals. Carlton, Collingwood, Richmond are all right next to each other.

Since you obviously know everything, you tell us.

WA & SA - 2 teams
"BIG 4" - 4 teams

Now, richmond alone have more reoccurring fixtures alone then any of the other states

Collingwood put an end to it. You know what Eddie's like, he likes everyone to be equal but Collingwood to be more equal than the rest.

No idea what the arrangements will be this time, or even if the AFL will facilitate it. But I suspect they will.

Yeah it sucks balls and if the AFL implemented e.g. a rolling fixture that put all clubs on an equal footing, I wouldn't complain. But the game's in a cycle of inflation and has such high aspirations re GWS and GC and who-knows-what-else, that the gravy train can't be stopped. Chooo-oooooooooo!

Yes it is all Eddie's fault.

Richmond agreed to the gate sharing, so clearly they thought it was good at the time. Then instead of sticking to the agreement they decided to screw the Pies over. Didn't even wait till after the second game to inform Collingwood they wouldn't be renewing it next season, they decided to do it right after the season opener so they could keep all of the gate takings.

Scum decision from a pitiful club.

I'll go with just the one time

Caro and Benny Gale crap on about how huge Richmond are that tens of thousands are locked out by the game being played in Geelong yet Richmond supporters haven't turned up to the Geelong games in years.

If you took the crowd tally at 3/4 time of the Tigers v Cats matches I think it'd be a lot smaller too

Geographically Carlton is not next to Richmond.

Collingwood is close to Richmond, but you don't share a border with them

The only side you share a geographic border with is Hawthorn (FYI South Yarra, Abbotsford and East Melbourne aren't currently in the AFL)

  It's late and I'm tired (and you're jealous).

They are jealous. We even have more members this year than the year after Hawthorn won their last flag, and they are still cranky that round 1 2009 when as reigning Premiers, they played Geelong at the MCG and their crown numbers were 17,379 fewer than Richmond v Carlton 2 days prior.

I for one cannot wait until late 2013 when Richmond are sitting 9th and a poorer club have scraped into the finals and Richmond cry foul over how they have had such an easier draw playing expansion teams plus PA/WB/Melb.

You can't have it both ways! Either accept this is what happens and don't have a go at Adelaide or North this year or change the fixture altogether. This is only adding to the problem!

I cant wait until 2013 to see if Melbourne can win more than 4 games, or to see if they can get their % over 69

What other club could increase its membership in 8 of the last 9 years (with a small dip in Hardwick's first year) on the back of no finals?

Take the step on the field next year and the juggernaut will be reborn.

Everyone knows it's this sort of thing that makes what is already a lopsided fixture even more compromised, yet we still do it.

They need to piss off all these 2 game a year rivalry rounds and do things on a strict rotation. People say it's to increase revenue but the evidence doesn't really exclusively point that way.

The first of the big games is always huge (talking mainly vic rivalries here) as both teams are generally still in the hunt for september. Often by the second game, 1 or both are out of the finals race and it's a bit of a fizzer.

Look at the Blues v Bombers this year. First game 73000, second 59000.
Rich v Bombers this year. First game 81000, second 47000
Collingwood v Bombers 2010. First game 90000, second 59000.

Just get rid of these double ups and give us a still imperfect, but somewhat fairer fixture

You are whingeing(1) about having to play an AWAY match in a stadium that will hold 33,000 next year when if the game was played in Melbourne you are unlikely to draw(2) more than 35,000

No exaggeration

Pop Quiz: How many times in the last 30 years has Richmond and Geelong played in front of 50,000 or more people?(3)

(1) - I just entered the discussion, without even stating my opinion on the topic at hand.
(2) - Weak assumption
(3) - How many times have Richmond beaten Geelong in 30 years? Maybe the lopsidedness of the contest being the leading factor in poor attendance?

This is the earth shattering theory that people are suggesting.

Richmond is young team.
Richmond have good talent.
Richmond working up ladder.
Geelong working down ladder.
Richmond and Geelong matches will be more competitive.
Richmond Vs. Geelong will attract more Richmond support.

And just the one Eagles v Freo game per year as well, or maybe two every 3 or 4 years on rotation.
Yep, talking all the rivalries here. Showdowns too. This is a big part of what is screwing the fixture up

Just start from scratch, play every team once, then continue the same sequence over and over again, regardless of the break in between seasons.

I like how the OP left out this part so be can ram down his hatred towards all things Richmond.

'The Tigers have backed Collingwood's push to have the clubs play twice a season'

'Collingwood chief executive Gary Pert confirmed that the Magpies had formally requested the AFL schedule two games against Richmond in 2013'

This issue and any similar one will of course attract the now predictable tigerbash from the usual sources but I'm not sure why. Collingwood are simply sniffing the wind and realising that a once huge rival is probably on the way back and are hoping to lock down 2 games which would remain winnable but draw massively if the Richmond return to competitiveness actually happens. Edie wants Richmond back, he thinks we are on the way back and wants to get his share of the loot falling from the Tigertrain. Clever old Eddie.

Collingwood do not miss out on too many good things and smell the sweet scent of mucho mucho dollari in the wind.
