Collingwood Attitude To Matthew Lloyd

Great footballer for over a decade, fantastic kick. It was basically for him that the so called 30 sec rule was invoked.

As a commentator........can't agree with the rest of the Collingwood Bretheren. Some other descriptive words come to mind, but shall leave them be.

I have really warmed to him since he became a commentator. Often interesting, honest and seems like a good bloke. My only reservation is the way he has handled himself in regards to Mathew Knights-that was pretty poor I thought.

Like most here couldn't stand him with the diving while playing, but respect him in the media. Unlike others doesn't harbour an "I hate collingwood" boner every time we play.

I was a big Matty fan; as much as I could like a good player from another team. I rate Matty very high.

Minimal respect for him as a player, don't mind him as a commentator. Seems to be fairly straight up and has some good insights.

Hi jade 00,

Gun fullforward, though from oppo point of view slightly tarnished his image with the slightly excessive diving for frees, which was annoying, as he'd rarely miss converting.

Felt he retired a year early and TBH did wonder if that had anything to do with the Sewell bump.

Love his honest commentary, and he doesn't seem to barrack for the opposition like most of the others do, which is refreshing.

Be interested to know what the Essendon people think of the circumstances of his retirement?

Was it a clash with Knights?

When he retired he was finished. His good games were becoming further & further apart & by the 09 season he rarely played 1 good game out of 3. The fact that he didn't get along with Knights probably made it an easy decision. If it wasn't for his hamstring injury I believe he could've played up to this year & be around the 1200 goal mark which would've been amazing considering he played in the era of flooding & zones. As great as Lockett & Dunstall were all they had to worry about was a loose man in the backline or in the case of Lockett, someone stupid enough to stand in the 'hole'.

One thing we'll never know is how he would've gone at another club in 2010. Considering there was a half hearted approach at best by Collingwood, if that had've gone further who knows what could've happened. He would've been refreshed & with a real contender with a great midfield & I would like to think he could've had a 70-80 goal season but then again i'm biased.

Always liked lloyd....

I was quite taken aback by the huge media and supporter backlash towards him for the hit he dished out in his last game against hawthorn. IMO wasn't as bad as they made out, the ball was in dispute, made a split second decision to get the ball, didn't back out and the guy was hurt.

I thought Chance Bateman's running clothesline that game was extremely low and should have got at least 8 weeks for it.

Great special comments man and seems a good bloke and would have been a good teammate.

The 'Velvet Sniper' appears to be in AWE of the Magpie Machine at times, when he is offering his special comments, also seems to take a personal interest in Trav's kicking.

Like him as a commentator and on the his panel show.
Certainly gets judged much more harshly than say, Selwood, when it comes to milking frees, although in his defense he admitted it.

Lloyd. Hmm.
I dont like the way his name replaces that of Gordon Coventry at Etihad whenever Essendon play there.
I do like the fact he spent substantial time with a speech therapist to get rid of that monotone drawl he blessed us with through his playing days. As he has a tendency to waffle, that time well spent makes listening to him bearable.
Ordinary captain of his club but definitely finished his career one year early, at least.
Nowhere near the worst or most annoying in his field.

In his playing days I always thought Lloydy was a bit of a w***er, but since he's gone into the media I fully respect him and listen to everything he says. It also appears he's a genuinly decent guy.

I'm a football purist, thus I love people who have a genuine love for the game, though I will always have a bias to Collingwood people. However, I always thought Lloydy was a great player, and I think he's a really good media performer. I also think he's got a quiet soft spot for Collingwood, odly.

Exactly my thoughts right here.
