Sorry if posted elsewhere, but really peeved that they were missing for the last half of the game.

Does anyone know why?

I was in the Souther Stand, it sounded like they were getting involved, but nobody else really was.

is there some politics at work here that I don't know about?

It seems pretty clear that we have TWO cheer squads.

On Saturday the "other" cheer squad behind or above the official cheer squad was starting chants and for the first time, to my ear, the official cheer squad actually joined in. I thought that was a step in the right direction.

Our "other" cheer squad seems louder and a bit more in tune with the game - and more fun?

I think the Club has Censored the "Offical" Cheersquad

Been banging on all year about how inept our cheer squad is. The lack of any activity from this mob is noticeable. When the team is on a roll, no jeering the crowd or team up. Conversely, when we are behind the same thing happens. In 40 years of following the Pies this is without doubt THE worst cheer squad that has ever assembled. If they have been muted by the PC Police then that is another move in the direction of sanitised football. If not, then they need a swift kick up the ar*e and put up or give up their prime seats.

The club cleaned out the CS a few years ago. A lot of them now stand behind them and sing and cheer. It's removed and passion and presence from the squad.

Our cheer squad is unrivaled as the worst in the comp. the traveling GWS squad is better than ours.

Low number, full of sour sooks who are only there for the title and GF ticket.

Someone message Joffa and tell him to pick up his act. Ever since that 2010 Prelim, I have not heard anything from the cheersquad. The long 'Collingwooood' chant has been started by normal people in the crowd. No cheering/chants after goals is crap. Not to mention it looks terrible on TV, there are free seats everywhere around it!

Also to do the Banner and Get on the G to let the players go thru

As a kid in the late 80's I was a member.
But the less we see or hear from the modern Cheer Squad the better. They are just an embarrassment to the club.

They make no noise.
Their signs are cringeworthy.
Most of the members are too old to be there - it's for kids you weirdos!
It just attracts attention seeking morons ie: the moron who hangs over the fence abusing the whole world.

If I was Eddie I'd move them to the Top deck back row of the Ponsford stand.

I reckon cheer squads have surpassed their use by date, and if the AFL gets their way and the pre game banners are banned (except for milestone games and special occasions) then they will become more irrelevant then they ever have been.

The majority of Collingwood fans go out of their way to avoid sitting anywhere near the CS, even when they are interstate, mainly because several of the so called members are an embarrassment to our club (I'm not pointing at Joffa, he's one of the few who actually does represent our club well IMO).

Maybe it's come to a point where the cheersquad should be done away with and those seats on the bottom deck thrown open to legends members who have to sit at various points of the ground because for some reason they can't get access to decent reserved seats.

Do you mean the guy in the Front who leans over the Fence and looks like he is Abusing who ever is close from the Oppostion or the Umps

The Freo cheer squad was louder than the cheer squad when we played them at the MCG and beating them. That was preety embarasing.

I sit in the last seat on the aisle in M31 the other side of the cheer squad.
And it has been interesting this year to watch them
There does seem to be a lot of people in the cheer squad who don't do much.
But maybe the AFL thinks cheer squads aren't important. They have always been a part of the game, it'd be a shame to see them go.

As to the question about ticketing on Level 1 Ponsford: there are a lot of corporate seats in there, believe it or not, and many don't get sold so they are given back to Ticketek - that's why we see the staggered selling and sometimes vacant seats. For many of the corporate packages the club offers they are given drinks and entertainment at half time somewhere else in the ground, that's why the seats seem vacant a lot of time - they take their time getting back to the seats if they come back at all.

In the good ol' days at Vic Park we had 3 cheers squads. The muppets in the Sherrin Stand who thought they were actually important, the real people behind the other goals ensuring the opposition cheer squad got pushed out into the pocket and the pissheads who drank and yelled abuse at every opposition player and the umpires.

Those were the days!

There was one bloke who got the Collingwood (clap clap clap) going in the Ryder Stand when the Maggies needed a lift or were on a roll. He was near the past players seats above the race, that seemed to get the crowd going more than the ones started from the Cheersquad.

He is still there on gameday, collecting the footy's and setting up the warm-ups for the Club.

The only time I notice they're there is when they do their banners/flags after goals the same as everyone else does, or when watching the replay and they zoom in on Joffa sulking, or that bloody fool that abuses everything week in week out.

I'm of the opinion that the CS should be smaller, or the core group stays (Joffa and a few others) and the rest of the seats are rotated through members. They are pretty good seats - if you don't mind having balls coming at you left right and center.

I think his name is Peter. I shake my head when ever I see him on TV. He is an utter disgrace and is everything that the public seem to think is wrong with our members and club.

I had the option of taking level 1 in the Ponsford stand. I requested not to be any where near the CS. They couldn't promise so I kept my level 4 seats.

The banners I think have had their day, except the ANZAC day banner, and I wouldn't care less if they went.

... oh and that 'Give Me A Brazilian Harry', is the worst banner I have ever seen.

To end on a positive, the best cheering I can see going on, is when something good happens everybody stands up around you and you all high five each other... Ala when Jack kicked that goal in the final against Adelaide.

I'm coming up to Melbourne for Round 19 for the match against St. Kilda. Would obviously prefer to sit with the Pies supporters but the cheersquad doesn't seem too great now. Where do you guys recommend I get seats?

If you're not in M32-M36 you're nowhere near the CS. Any seat in the Ponsford stand away from those bays and you'll be fine.

You'd be fine in the other bays as well (i think M34 is the CS bay) but if you wanted to keep your distance avoid those bays.

Majority of the away supporters tend to be in the bays starting from M50 (Olympic stand) through to M8ish in the southern. The MCC/AFL members will be pretty mixed.
