Opinion Collingwood don't want Adam Treloar... recently signed him to a multi year big $$$ deal.

Their cap management has been dreadful and they'd want to redo this whole situation I'm sure, but as far as I can tell they haven't said anything publicly about the reasons for wanting to trade him. When you make poor decisions you often have to make tough and unpopular choices to get out of that situation.

I don't think the Pies have attacked Treloar's personal situation and character as much as it's leaked out and had that effect and the Pies are copping a pasting for it, that's what I feel is a bit unfair.
No way have they been treated unfairly.

You said they haven't come out publicly about the reasons to trade him.
That is half the problem, they never came out and said anything at all.

They extended a player last year for another 4 years and 12 months later
want to flick him

They deserve everything they cop.

You've got it wrong mate. Collingwood locked him in for a contract, they cut his pay in 2019 which he agreed to, they backtracked on their word, and now they're trying to dump a CONTRACTED player quite poorly. See how Sydney handled Alir. They asked him if he would like to be traded he said no. That's it. Done. Collingwood are 100% in the wrong on this one.
Stuff like that doesn't end up in the media if its BS.
They didn't cut his pay, they renegotiated an extended and back loaded deal. Yes that made him vulnerable to a salary dump but it's also given him long term financial security and it probably saved him a lot in lost wages this year with the lower payments. As long as he keeps playing he'll make every dollar he's owed from one club or another. And he has every right to sit on the Pies list and make it there.

Clubs trade contracted players all the time. Chad Wingard ring a bell?

I'm not saying the Pies haven't raised a number of issues to Treloar. You don't trade one of your best players for just 1 thing, it's usually a combination of factors that starts with on field performance and works down the list and of course it includes personality and family situation. Those can be key issues in any trade.

The Pies are the bad guys, but that's there decision. The more the dirty laundry gets leaked the more the more it looks bad for both sides.

What should they say? He can't kick? He's injury prone? He's hard to coach? We stuffed up and his contract is too backended and long? Do they own up to what might well be their view that they don't approve of his family being split in half - legally they probably can't say that even though it's hardly the most outlandish belief in the world.

There's no way to come out and say why you want to trade a player without making yourself look stupid or devaluing the player. They're forced to come out now and defend against certain reports but it won't help the situation.

If your best mate is friends with him, there is the possibility that Treloar may have told him about the conversations he's had with the club (if any).

It's not about 'being privy to inside trade information'.

Because right now all we have to go off is speculation from journos after talking to ex-Recruiters.
Do us both a favour, and the next time you happen to read one of my posts, please don’t reply. Thank you

I don't think we need him at Richmond but I rate him. It'd be ironic if we took him with the Pies paying part of his salary...

David King on Fox Footy tonight....

'Why would Collingwood come out and respond to any of the media conjecture?'

Exactly.

....because as a club they literally cannot keep their mouths shut at any other time than right now?

Your President is a rent-a-quote for every topic touching your club and the wider league.

When a simple and concise statement to the media would make this go away?

If there is nothing in this with Treloar it’s now gone on too long to not have done some kind of damage - whether that be to reputations or relationships (or both) I guess we will find out over the next week.

It’s interesting that they are trying to shaft a contracted player who took a backend contract to help the pies instead of just letting an uncontracted player like DeGoey or mihocek walk

Very interesting.

You know it could be a change in list management direction, not necessarily Treloar personally although they want him out the door. Might be to do with Pendlebury retiring not too far away, new recruit possiblities and a rethink on list strategy for the next six years or so.

DeGoey is younger etc..

Yeah, nah.

Nothing to do with the captain.
He might have said something internally, but it's not his job to come out and make press
statements about contracts etc.

He's certainly not going to come out and bag the club.
He doesn’t have to bag the club, and he doesn’t have to make statements about contracts. But his teammate and a teammate he leads as captain is getting smashed. He does need to come out and say “I as captain and we as the players are behind Adam 110%! And look forward to playing with him for the next five years”. If he can’t do that, what is a captain for? To toss the coin and talk to sponsors???

The captain cannot say that if the club wants him out. The captain is not the GM of football. That's the person who needs to be seen to be saying something about the situation. Now that Buckley has broken the silence, the club needs to come clean to its members.

Don’t know what’s been said already but I will say this. It seems quite the coincidence the Magpies netball team didn’t offer Treloar’s wife a new contract

Yer... you’d think the pies could have shifted some of his wages to his wife’s contract if she stayed at Collingwood netball club.

It’s just a weird situation.

I still can’t see how he was ever worth 900k a season. No wonder de goey wants the same.

What, something like 'Adam Treloar has the full support of the Board'?

a. To pay his partner more would be salary cap cheating.
b. He WAS never worth 900k a season.. his deal i think was something like 750 a year which i think is about right for a player like him, but they renegotiated to back-end his contract, and paid him less (only guessing but maybe 500k for a couple of years) and pushed that money back to later years in a new contract.. arriving apparently somewhere around 900k a season...

More comfortable with their midfield depth. Daicos looks like a player and his brother is coming who is apparently even better and worthy of pick 1.

Taking into account how the rest of the list looks and the money involved, Treloar is the most expendable.

Just ‘Adam Treloar will play for Collingwood in 2021’.

Not an outrageous statement to make about a star player who has 5 years to run on his contract.

Its probably been asked before so sorry about that but if Beams has retired does the mean the contract has ended?

No. Not sure how the ruling works, but as similar with the talk that Buddy would still have to be paid from his mega contract even if he retired tomorrow.

I remember reading once that Buddys contract coming out of sydneys cap even if he retires is because he was a restricted free agent, and the length of the deal interfered with hawthorns ability to match his deal.

therefore its to stop team A just offering someone a 100 year contract which team B would clearly never match.

Dunno if its true, but it makes sense to me

Was beams a free agent when he went back to collingwood?'

You're missing the point.

Again, it's not in his duty statement to come out and make pressers.
As for not bagging the club, well it makes him and the club look like dicks if he does as you suggest
and say he "looks forward to playing with him for the next 5 years" when the club is actively trying to trade him.

Part of the captains role is to raises standards on and off the field, not to get involved in off field politics.
