Can't believe Mick only played 152 games - the good players play so many more these days.
probably helps that its a full time thing these days, where back then most of their games they played, they also worked full time so couldn't dedicate your time to 100% footy; easier to get injuries and your body wasnt equipped to longivity.

Mick was also in the grip of some extracurricular activities during his time. Loved a beer, loved a punt, probably a bit too much.

As mentioned a few months ago, he is not a top 20 prospect at this stage
He's in the top 25. Lots of talent next year. I imagine they'll add more to this academy squad next year.
Had a very excellent year, Came runner up in the Jets bnf as a bottom ager. There wasn't much more he could have done this year tbf

He has all next year to improve. I still think he ends up a first round pick

He will. I reckon top 15. We dont want him to go too high anyway ;)
At least he can train with us a bit over pre-season.

You can't possibly know this with certainty.
No, nothing in life is for sure but already tracking to be one just a matter if he can push into the top 10, which will be dependant on his development in his draft year.

Pre-season training in November for U18s - wow! It's a serious affair these days, even for junior footballers!! There was a time when a preparation of six or so weeks would have been considered adequate, even for senior VFL players.

This is what the Carlton coach had to say back in 1950!:

Yeah I reckon U18's didn't train this year untl after christmas, but looks like some are starting early. It'll be good for him to get back into it. Getting better every day.

They do a heap more training and conditioning sessions during season as well. It's no longer 2 nights a week with fish and chips to follow - even for juniors.

Players are better prepared, but I think it'd also contribute to drop out rate, as it's a bigger commitment.

Most of these kids have been in elite programs for several years and some of them also play 2 or 3 sports. Its a huge 3 or 4 years for the kids and their parents.

Very very quick. That kind of pace would be very useful in footy, so lets hope he becomes a viable prospect in the next couple years
If you’re looking for young speed. 16 year old QLD Gout Gout is something else, better that Usain Bolt at the same age. Maybe too late for NGA 😂 lucky he went into sprinting otherwise the lions would have another one.

You only need to look at Usain Bolt's failed ventures into other sports to know that there's a lot more to making it in a sport than size and speed.
